That was four days before the game’s full launch on February 18. The ranking was a snapshot of Steam’s revenue-ranked live chart—not a count of copies sold or a measure of Avowed’s total audience across platforms.
What did Avowed’s Steam chart position mean?
Insider Gaming reported Avowed at number one on Steam’s live Top Sellers list on February 14. The story describes that chart as ranking games by revenue at the time. It was a dated position on a changing list, not a permanent ranking or a published sales figure.
The report also cited an early-access peak of more than 9,000 concurrent players on Steam. That figure was limited to Premium Edition buyers playing on Steam. It does not include players on Xbox consoles, the Xbox app for PC, Battle.net, or Game Pass, nor does it establish total players or sales.
Why was the game available before its full launch?
Avowed’s standard launch date was February 18, 2025, but Premium Edition buyers could start playing on February 13, according to the official launch announcement. The announcement also said the standard edition could be played on launch day through Game Pass. It named Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox app on Windows, Battle.net, and Xbox Game Pass as ways to play.

The February 14 chart report therefore came during the Premium Edition early-access period, rather than after the standard launch. The same announcement describes digital editions and digital bonus content, including skins, an artbook, and a soundtrack.
How does the later Steam ranking compare?
SteamDB’s archived global weekly chart lists Avowed at number six for February 18–25, 2025. This does not conflict with the February 14 report: the sources refer to different chart formats, time windows, and geographic scopes. One is a report of the live Top Sellers position on a particular day; the other is an archived global weekly ranking covering the week beginning on the full launch date.

Steam also publishes a monthly Top Releases chart, which is separate from the live Top Sellers list. Valve’s Top Releases FAQ, published May 14, 2025, explains that the monthly chart considers first-two-weeks revenue for games released during a month. It says Early Access games may appear in the month they enter Early Access and again in the month they reach version 1.0. That monthly methodology should not be used to reinterpret the February 14 live-chart report.

- It can show: Insider Gaming reported Avowed at the top of Steam’s live revenue-ranked list on February 14, 2025.
- It cannot show: an exact number of copies sold, total revenue, a lasting chart position, or the game’s total audience across platforms.
- The player figure is different evidence: more than 9,000 concurrent Steam players was a reported early-access peak for Premium Edition buyers on Steam, not a sales count or all-platform total.
Steam’s current Top Sellers page labels its list as the top 100 selling games “right now, by revenue”; it is a current chart, not a historical record of Avowed’s position in 2025. The February 14 claim is best understood with its original date and chart context attached.
