Little Nightmares III Co-op: Online Only, With Friend’s Pass

Little Nightmares III has no local co-op. One player can invite a same-platform friend online with the free Friend’s Pass; PlayStation requires PS Plus for both.

No—Little Nightmares III does not have local or couch co-op. Its two-player mode is online-only. One player can own the full game and invite a friend using the free Friend’s Pass, but both players must use the same platform. PlayStation players also need PlayStation Plus.

How two-player co-op works

Co-op is for two players connected online, not two people sharing one console or PC. Bandai Namco says an internet connection is required, and PlayStation describes online co-op as the game’s only multiplayer mode. Bandai Namco’s Little Nightmares III Q&A and the PlayStation product page set out those limits.

How to use the Friend’s Pass

  1. The owner installs the full game. One full-game copy is enough for both players to play the campaign together.
  2. The invited player downloads the free Trial & Friend’s Pass. The owner sends an online invitation; both players must be on the same platform. Follow Bandai Namco’s Friend’s Pass instructions for the invitation flow.
  3. Join and play together. The invited player does not need to buy a second full copy to join the owner’s campaign.

If you both want to try the game before either buys it, each player can download the free trial and play approximately the first 30 minutes online. The publisher says trial progress carries over if one player later buys the full game. This is a trial allowance, not the length of the full campaign.

Which platforms can play together?

Little Nightmares III released on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, according to Bandai Namco’s game page. Co-op invitations are same-platform: cross-platform play between different manufacturers is not supported.

There is one specific cross-generation exception. Bandai Namco announced on January 28, 2026, that cross-generation multiplayer between Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 had been enabled. Its earlier June 2025 Q&A said that pairing was not available at launch; the later update supersedes that launch-era limitation. The update is published in Bandai Namco’s January Update.

Online subscription requirements

For PlayStation, both online players need PlayStation Plus, as stated on the PlayStation product page. Subscription requirements for Xbox and Nintendo are not established by the cited game sources; check the relevant platform’s current online-play terms for your account and region.

Know the save limitation before starting

A save started in co-op must be continued with the same two players. You cannot switch that save between solo and co-op, or swap in a different co-op partner. You can make a separate save for another friend or for solo play; the game supports up to eight saves. Bandai Namco explains this in its official Q&A.
