For Livepush’s manual YouTube connection method, its help article says the destination needs setup for each event when the channel is not linked, and YouTube comments are not visible in its multi-chat overlay. This caveat applies to that documented manual method. [Livepush help]
Run a video loop with FFmpeg on a VPS
This is a self-managed outline, not a universal command: inspect the media first and verify the exact output against YouTube’s ingest requirements. FFmpeg’s ability to loop a file does not itself provide supervision or uninterrupted service.

- Prepare the VPS and media. Choose a VPS with enough network capacity for the stream and place the source video where FFmpeg can read it. The required capacity and cost depend on the provider, region, bitrate and whether you encode or copy the source.
- Get the YouTube stream key. In YouTube Studio, create or configure the live stream and copy its stream key. Treat the key as a password; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Inspect the input. Check its video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, timestamps and container. Stream copying avoids re-encoding, but can fail when the source streams do not meet the target container’s requirements. FFmpeg’s manual cautions that streamcopy is not suitable in every case. - Build and test an output command. FFmpeg documents
-stream_loop -1for infinite repetition and network output URLs. A typical command structure isffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /path/to/video.mp4 -c copy -f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST/YOUR_STREAM_KEY". Replace the ingest URL with the one YouTube provides. Use-c copyonly when the input codecs and timestamps are compatible; otherwise select encoding settings appropriate to your source and YouTube’s recommendations. Test before relying on it for a long-running stream. [FFmpeg documentation] - Check YouTube’s ingest settings. YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For H.264, its current recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p60; requirements vary with codec, resolution and frame rate. [YouTube encoder guidance]
- Keep the process alive. Configure process supervision and server monitoring so you can detect a stopped FFmpeg process, failed network connection or exhausted disk space and restart or investigate it. FFmpeg’s loop option repeats media; it does not supervise itself or guarantee recovery.
- Verify the live output. Confirm in YouTube Studio that the stream is receiving video and audio, check for warnings or dropped frames, and watch a test from a separate device. Keep the stream key private and rotate it if it is exposed.
Copyright, playlists and replay expectations
Only stream video and audio you have rights to use. A loop being technically possible does not grant permission to rebroadcast music, gameplay footage, films or other creators’ work. Review YouTube’s policies for live content and monetization, including its rules on reused content, before building a channel around repeated material.
A schedule channel or manually looped file is not the same as a set of separate broadcasts. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume an around-the-clock stream will become one complete, indefinitely available replay. Plan separate archives or shorter sessions if replay access matters. [YouTube Help]

Choose FFmpeg on a VPS if
- You want direct control of the command, encoding and server environment.
- You can manage Linux, process supervision, networking and incident recovery.
- Your media and output requirements justify handling compatibility and testing yourself.
