In SA-MP, it is the Windows runtime library from samp-log-core, most commonly required by the BlueG SA-MP MySQL plugin.
The safest fix is to download the complete official Windows package matching your installed MySQL plugin, extract it to the SA-MP server directory, install the required x86 Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, and avoid copying the DLL into System32.

Before changing Windows, restore the plugin files as one matching set.

- Stop the SA-MP server.
- Download the official Windows release archive for your installed SA-MP-MySQL version. A commonly used package is
mysql-R41-4-win32.zip. - Extract the archive to a temporary folder.
- Copy the files using their original layout:
SA-MP server folder
├─ samp-server.exe
├─ log-core.dll
├─ libmariadb.dll
└─ plugins
└─ mysql.dll
- Copy
a_mysql.incinto the Pawn include directory if you compile scripts. - Open
server.cfgin Notepad. - Confirm the Windows plugin line is:
plugins mysql
Do not add .dll to the plugins line unless the project documentation for your exact server build specifically requires it.

Start samp-server.exe again. A successful repair normally means the console no longer stops at:
Loading plugin: mysql
Failed.
Time needed: 5–10 minutes.
If log-core.dll is already beside samp-server.exe, replace the complete plugin set anyway. The visible file may be from a different release, damaged, or unable to load one of its dependencies.
Fix 1: Install the x86 Visual C++ runtime
SA-MP servers and their plugins use 32-bit Windows binaries. This remains true when Windows itself is 64-bit. Install the x86 runtime, not only the x64 package.
- Open Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Download the current
vc_redist.x86.exe. - Run the installer.
- Choose Install. If it is already installed, choose Repair when offered.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the SA-MP server again.
The current Microsoft v14 runtime is binary-compatible across the relevant modern Visual Studio releases. However, it does not automatically replace every older runtime. Some SA-MP plugins still require older x86 packages, including Visual C++ 2010, 2010 SP1, 2012, or 2015 runtimes. Those packages can coexist with the current runtime.
If the SA-MP-MySQL documentation for your release names an older x86 package, install that package as well. Do not remove an older runtime merely because a newer one is present.
Time needed: 5–15 minutes.
Success means the plugin loads instead of reporting Failed. If the same error remains, continue with the complete-package replacement rather than installing random DLLs.

Fix 2: Check the actual server folder
A frequent mistake is placing log-core.dll in the plugins folder or in a different copy of the server.

- Select Properties.
- Check Start in to identify the working directory.
- Open that directory.
- Confirm that
samp-server.exe,log-core.dll, andlibmariadb.dllare in the same folder. - Confirm that
pluginsmysql.dllexists underneath it. - If you have multiple SA-MP server folders, repeat the check in the folder that actually launches.
The file should not be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
SA-MP serverplugins
System32 and SysWOW64 are not substitutes for the server directory. Copying the file there can create version confusion and will not repair a mismatched MySQL package.
Time needed: 2–5 minutes.
If the server still fails, delete the extracted plugin set from the server folder and extract a fresh copy of the complete official archive into a new local folder. Avoid using an incomplete cloud-synchronised copy.
Fix 3: Do not mix plugin generations
log-core.dll and log-core2.dll are not interchangeable. They belong to different plugin generations and must not be substituted for one another.
Do not copy log-core.dll from another SA-MP server, plugin, backup, or unrelated application. Replace these files together:
mysql.dlllog-core.dlllibmariadb.dll
Use a single official archive for all three. A plugin can fail when its logging runtime came from another release, even though the filename appears correct.

The R41-4 release information also identifies a faulty Windows libmariadb.dll in that release history. If log-core.dll is present but MySQL connection errors appear after the load problem is fixed, replace the complete package rather than replacing only the logging file.
Time needed: 5–10 minutes.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus program may have quarantined or deleted the file.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
log-core.dll,mysql.dll, orlibmariadb.dll. - Restore the file only if the archive came directly from the trusted SA-MP-MySQL project.
- If the source is uncertain, remove the copy and download the complete official archive again.
- Add an exclusion only after verifying the source and understanding the security risk.
Do not restore an unknown DLL simply because its filename matches. Microsoft warns that allowing a malicious file can put the device at risk.
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Fix 5: Re-extract the server files
A damaged archive, interrupted download, or partial copy can make a DLL appear to be missing or invalid.
- Create a new folder such as
C:SAMP-Test. - Download the complete official Windows plugin archive again.
- Right-click the archive and select Extract All.
- Extract to the new folder.
- Copy the files into the correct SA-MP server locations.
- Confirm that the files are not still inside a nested folder such as
mysql-R41-4-win32mysql-R41-4-win32. - Start the server from that clean directory.
If the server works from the clean folder, the original installation was incomplete, damaged, or pointing to a different directory.
Time needed: 10–20 minutes.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if other programs also fail
log-core.dll is a third-party SA-MP runtime, so Windows component repair will not recreate it. Use DISM and SFC only when other applications are also reporting damaged or missing Windows files.

- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the SA-MP server again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but SA-MP still cannot load the plugin, return to the matching plugin archive and x86 runtime. These commands do not download log-core.dll.

Fix 7: Check drivers only for wider system instability
A graphics or device driver does not normally supply log-core.dll. Do not update drivers as the first response to this SA-MP error.
If other applications are crashing or devices are malfunctioning:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Display adapters, Network adapters, and Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click a device.
- Select Properties and inspect the Device status message.
- Use Driver → Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not remove a working driver merely because log-core.dll is missing.

Do not enable a Windows optional feature, install DirectX, or reinstall .NET solely to restore log-core.dll. There is no evidence that those components supply this SA-MP runtime.

You also normally should not run:
regsvr32 log-core.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. log-core.dll is a runtime library used by SA-MP plugins, not a Windows shell component that needs registration. Registration will not fix a missing dependency, wrong architecture, or mismatched MySQL package.
What each error usually means
- “The program can’t start because log-core.dll is missing”: the file is absent, in the wrong folder, quarantined, or the wrong server copy is being started.
- “The specified module could not be found”: Windows may be unable to find a dependency such as
libmariadb.dllor an x86 Visual C++ runtime. The named DLL can be visibly present and still fail. - “log-core.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error”: suspect a corrupted file, wrong architecture, or files from incompatible releases.
Loading plugin: mysqlfollowed byFailed.: check the entire plugin set, server-root placement, architecture, dependencies, and the x86 runtime.
Likely causes, in order
- Missing or misplaced
log-core.dll. mysql.dll,log-core.dll, andlibmariadb.dllcame from different releases.- The x86 Visual C++ runtime is missing.
- An x64 package was used with the 32-bit SA-MP server.
- Antivirus quarantine or deletion.
- Corrupted or incomplete extraction.
- A faulty dependency, especially
libmariadb.dll. - Broader Windows corruption or a recent system change.
FAQ
Is log-core.dll part of Windows?
No. It is a third-party runtime associated with SA-MP plugins, especially the BlueG SA-MP MySQL plugin.
Where should it go?
Place it in the SA-MP server root, beside samp-server.exe. Place mysql.dll in plugins and libmariadb.dll in the server root.
Do I need the x86 or x64 Visual C++ runtime?
Use the x86 runtime. SA-MP server and plugin binaries are 32-bit, even on 64-bit Windows.
Can I download only log-core.dll?
Do not use random DLL download sites websites. They may provide malware, the wrong build, or the wrong architecture, and a standalone file may not include libmariadb.dll or the required runtime. Use the official SA-MP-MySQL Windows archive matching your plugin.
