How long did Logan Paul hunt, and how many encounters did it take?
According to Joe Pring’s October 5, 2026 report for Dexerto, Paul began the hunt on September 19. His first stream lasted 34 hours and reached 3,705 encounters before he paused for a WWE Monday Night Raw appearance. He later announced the Shiny Onix after a reported total of 63 hours and 7,068 encounters.

The 63 hours and 7,068 encounters are reported totals, not independently verified measurements. Dexerto also notes that Onix was not the only wild Pokémon available in the area, so not every encounter necessarily produced an Onix.
What are the shiny odds in Pokémon Gold?
Dexerto gives the base chance of a wild Pokémon being shiny in Pokémon Gold as 1 in 8,192 per encounter. That is a probability for each encounter, not a deadline: a shiny can appear before the 8,192nd encounter or take longer. The reported 7,068 encounters are therefore consistent with an early result and do not, on their own, establish anything about how the hunt was conducted.

Did Logan Paul use hacks?
Paul denied using hacks. In a response quoted by Dexerto on October 5, he said: “No hacks used. Original Pokémon Gold cartridge in a GB Operator, streamed live for weeks with plenty of witnesses @CommunityNotes this is a lie”. That is Paul’s account of his setup and the hunt; Dexerto’s report does not independently authenticate the cartridge, GB Operator, footage, or encounter total.

Dexerto reported that Paul planned to evolve the Onix into Shiny Steelix during a YouTube livestream scheduled for October 29, 2026. That date was still in the future at the time of the October 5 report, so the evolution should be treated as a plan, not a completed event.
