There is no current, model-specific Logitech G402 driver download published on Logitech’s official G402 support page. The page currently states, “There are no Downloads for this Product.” Logitech also says its Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained. Windows should still operate the wired G402 Hyperion Fury with its built-in USB and HID mouse drivers, while button, DPI and tracking customization depends on Logitech software recognizing the mouse.

Use the manual procedure below to identify the mouse, reinstall the Windows device, test Logitech software safely and recover from common detection problems. Do not use an unofficial firmware package or a driver mirror simply because it claims to provide a newer G402 file.

What “G402 driver update” means in practice

The Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury is a wired USB gaming mouse, not a wireless device that needs a receiver firmware package. For basic pointer movement and button clicks, Windows normally uses standard USB and HID (Human Interface Device) drivers. Those drivers are delivered through Windows itself rather than as a downloadable G402-specific package.

A separate Logitech application is needed for advanced configuration: assigning functions to buttons, setting DPI stages, changing report rate and saving an onboard profile. Logitech’s older setup guide says, “You can customize the onboard profile of the G402 Hyperion Fury—button programming and tracking behavior—using the Logitech Gaming Software.” Logitech’s current software catalog includes G HUB, but the current G402 downloads page does not publish a G402-specific G HUB package, driver version or firmware version. Recognition by a current application can therefore vary by Windows version and software build.

What Logitech’s current support pages actually provide

No downloadable G402 package is listed

When you select the G402 Hyperion Fury on Logitech Support, the product downloads page currently displays the statement, “There are no Downloads for this Product.” It also lists no product-specific FAQs, documents, spare parts or videos on that route. Consequently, there is no authoritative current driver file or version number to verify from Logitech’s G402 download page.

The old firmware utility is not a supported update path

Logitech’s G402 getting-started page carries this notice: “Important Notice: The Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained by Logitech.” Treat that as a stop sign for firmware flashing. A third-party utility that offers to force-update G402 firmware is not an official replacement for the discontinued tool, and an interrupted or incompatible flash can leave the mouse unusable.

The hardware remains identifiable

The exact product name is Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury FPS Gaming Mouse. Confirm that name before applying any troubleshooting advice: a similarly shaped Logitech mouse may use different software support and different firmware.

Prepare the mouse and Windows before troubleshooting

  • Use the original USB cable and connect directly to a motherboard USB port. Temporarily bypass a hub, monitor passthrough or docking station.
  • Restart Windows with the mouse connected. A restart clears a stalled USB device state without changing profiles.
  • Test a second USB port, preferably one on the opposite side of a desktop computer or one with a different controller. If the mouse works in one port but not another, the port, hub or controller is the likely fault rather than a missing G402 package.
  • If possible, test the mouse on another Windows computer. A failure on multiple computers points toward the cable or mouse hardware; operation elsewhere points toward the original computer’s USB or software configuration.
  • Close other mouse-remapping, macro, RGB or overlay utilities while testing. Two programs attempting to control the same buttons can make a correctly detected mouse appear misconfigured.

Manual Windows procedure

1. Check whether Windows detects the device

  1. Press Windows key + X and choose Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices. Also inspect Human Interface Devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Move the G402 or unplug and reconnect it. The entry that disappears and returns is the mouse or its USB interface. It may appear as a HID-compliant mouse or USB Input Device rather than by the G402 name.
  4. If an entry has a yellow warning icon, right-click it, choose Properties, and read the Device status message and error code. Record the message before changing anything.

A generic HID name is not proof that the mouse lacks support. It usually means Windows is using its standard class driver, which is sufficient for pointer movement and ordinary clicks.

2. Reinstall the Windows device entry

  1. In Device Manager, right-click the affected HID-compliant mouse or USB Input Device and choose Uninstall device.
  2. If Windows offers a checkbox to remove driver software, leave it clear for a standard HID entry unless you are intentionally removing a separately installed vendor package.
  3. Unplug the G402, restart Windows, then reconnect it directly to a USB port. Windows should recreate the standard device entry automatically.
  4. Test movement and every physical button before opening configuration software.

Do not uninstall every item under USB controllers at once. Removing unrelated root hubs can temporarily disable keyboards, network adapters and other USB equipment.

3. Let Windows check for system updates

  1. Open Settings and go to Windows Update on Windows 11 or Windows 10. On Windows 8 or 7, use the Windows Update control panel.
  2. Install pending quality, cumulative and hardware-related updates, then restart when requested.
  3. Return to Device Manager and use Action > Scan for hardware changes.

Windows Update may refresh the underlying USB stack or chipset support, but it will not create a Logitech-specific G402 download when Logitech has not published one.

4. Install or test Logitech configuration software

Use Logitech’s own software catalog rather than a driver-download mirror. Logitech’s historical G402 setup documentation names Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) for onboard profile customization. Logitech’s current catalog lists G HUB among its software products. Because the G402 downloads page does not list a G402-specific G HUB or driver version, treat recognition as something to test, not as a guaranteed compatibility statement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install only the current Logitech gaming application offered through Logitech Support. If you already have both LGS and G HUB, close one before testing the other.
  2. Launch the application after Windows shows the mouse under Device Manager. Give it time to enumerate the USB device.
  3. If the mouse appears, create a simple profile, assign one button and save it to the onboard memory if that option is offered.
  4. Disconnect and reconnect the mouse, then test the assignment without the application running. This distinguishes an onboard profile from a software-only profile.
  5. If the application never lists the G402 while Windows detects it, remove the application, restart, and test the other Logitech application that is officially available for your Windows edition. Do not install an unverified executable claiming to be a “G402 driver.”

G402 DPI and report-rate settings

Logitech’s 2020 configuration article documents up to five onboard DPI levels from 240 to 4000 DPI in 80-DPI increments. The same article lists report-rate choices from 125 reports per second (an 8 ms interval) to 1000 reports per second (a 1 ms interval). Those values are configuration ranges, not a promise that every software release exposes every option.

Logitech’s 2014 product documentation describes a different presentation: four DPI settings with a DPI-shift function, eight programmable buttons, tracking speeds in excess of 500 IPS and a 1 millisecond report rate. The apparent difference between “up to five” levels in the configuration article and “four settings with DPI shift” in the product description reflects how the profile and shift control are counted. It does not establish a newer hardware revision.

Fixes for specific symptoms

The cursor does not move or the mouse repeatedly disconnects

  • Try a different direct USB port and remove hubs or extension cables.
  • Inspect the cable near the mouse shell and USB plug for kinks or intermittent contact.
  • In Device Manager, uninstall and recreate the HID entry as described above.
  • Disable USB selective suspension temporarily in the active Windows power plan, then test again. Restore the setting if it makes no difference.
  • Test on another computer. If disconnections follow the mouse, software cannot reliably repair a failing cable or internal USB connection.

Windows works, but Logitech software does not see the G402

  • Confirm the device appears in Device Manager before launching the Logitech application.
  • Close competing remapping, macro and overlay utilities.
  • Restart after installing or removing LGS or G HUB.
  • Test the other Logitech application that is currently offered for your Windows edition, remembering that Logitech has not published a G402-specific package on the current downloads page.
  • Keep the mouse connected directly while the application scans; do not test through a KVM switch or hub.

Buttons or DPI changed after a restart

Check whether the profile was saved to onboard memory or exists only inside the application. Reopen the profile, set the desired DPI stages and report rate, and use the application’s onboard-memory save command if present. A Windows reinstall or application update can remove software-only assignments even when the mouse itself is healthy.

A firmware updater is requested

Do not proceed with an unofficial updater. Logitech explicitly says its Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained. If the mouse works as a standard HID device, leave firmware unchanged. If it is not detected at all on multiple computers, treat that as a hardware or USB-path problem and pursue warranty or replacement options rather than forcing a flash.

Should you keep the G402 or replace it?

For a working G402, the decisive limitation is software support: Logitech’s current product downloads route provides no model-specific package, so future configuration support is less certain than it is for newer products with active downloads. The hardware specification remains useful if the mouse already fits your hand and games: eight programmable buttons, DPI switching, the documented tracking speed above 500 IPS and a 1 ms report-rate specification.

Logitech G203 Wired Gaming Mouse - Black | LIGHTSYNC RGB, On-Board Memory, 6 Programmable Buttons, Compabile with PC/Mac
  • Step up to gaming grade with 8,000 DPI optical sensor with zero filtering and smoothing for improved control and precision over standard computer mice with G203 wired mouse
  • Customize G203 RGB gaming mouse lighting via Logitech G HUB with colors, presets, or your own designs; sync with other LIGHTSYNC gear, react to screen color shifts, or flash to the beat for an immersive experience
  • The six-button mouse design offers comfort and control; with Logitech G HUB, assign commands, controls, or key binds to customize and simplify your gameplay experience
  • With Logitech G HUB software, customize sensitivity settings on this PC gaming mouse to suit your playstyle and quickly cycle between up to 5 DPI settings using the middle DPI cycle button
  • Mechanical primary buttons are tensioned with durable metal springs for reliable performance and feel, with crisp clicks and precise feedback

Compare a replacement against the G402 on these points:

  • Number of programmable buttons and whether assignments are stored onboard.
  • DPI range, DPI-shift behavior and the granularity of selectable stages.
  • Available report-rate settings and whether the current configuration software recognizes the device.
  • Sensor and tracking claims under the manufacturer’s stated test conditions.
  • Physical shape, cable design and fit for your grip.
  • Whether the manufacturer still publishes drivers, configuration software and firmware updates for the exact model.

If the G402 works in Windows and you only need ordinary pointing, no model-specific download is required. If you need remapping but neither officially available Logitech application recognizes it, replacing the mouse may be more dependable than searching for an unsupported firmware file.

As an optional shortcut, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan more than 100 devices for missing, outdated or corrupted drivers, install only official drivers, show current and recommended versions, and provide driver backup and restore. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 and offers a two-day free trial without a credit card before a subscription; results vary, and it cannot repair every hardware or software problem.
