Riot Games’ August 25, 2026 Patch 26.17 targets Vayne’s top-lane strength, adjusts a broad group of standard-League champions and items, and ships a separate set of League Classic balance and progression changes. Vayne’s early-rank Q costs more mana and her W deals less damage at most ranks, while her base-stat changes move in both positive and negative directions rather than being universal nerfs.
What LoL Patch 26.17 changes
Patch 26.17 is the August 25, 2026 update documented in Riot Games’ official patch notes. Riot describes the standard-game balance pass as a small amount of top-lane relief through Nasus and Vayne nerfs, follow-up adjustments to several champions and items, scaling help for melee attack-damage carries, and reductions to champions that were performing strongly. The same notes contain a separate League Classic section; its champion, item, rune, progression, champion-select, visual and bug-fix changes should not be treated as changes to the current standard game.

The patch notes were authored by Riot wroadie, Riot Cashmiir and sternest. They describe parameter changes and Riot’s intended direction. They do not provide post-release win-rate, pick-rate or lane-performance measurements, so the practical effects below are interpretations of the numbers and stated goals, not verified outcome statistics.

Vayne’s Patch 26.17 nerfs, line by line
Riot says the priority is constraining Vayne’s top-lane power. The notes explicitly say these changes should affect her top lane more than bot lane, while larger-scope work may be needed later to help her bot-lane position. Calling this a targeted Vayne nerf is accurate for the intended lane outcome, but the individual base-stat entries are mixed: some starting values increase even as their per-level growth decreases.
Standard-game Vayne numbers
| Stat or ability | Before 26.17 | After 26.17 | What changes in play |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base health | 550 + 103 per level | 580 + 98 per level | 30 more health at level 1, but five fewer health gained per level. |
| Health regeneration | 3.5 + 0.55 per level | 4 + 0.5 per level | Higher base regeneration, lower growth. |
| Attack-speed ratio and growth | 0.658 ratio; 3.3% per level | 0.67 ratio; 2.8% per level | The ratio rises while level-based attack-speed growth falls. |
| Q – Tumble mana cost | 30 at every rank | 46 / 42 / 38 / 34 / 30 | Ranks 1–4 cost progressively more; rank 5 is unchanged. |
| W – Silver Bolts true damage | 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10% of target maximum health | 4 / 5.5 / 7 / 8.5 / 10% | Ranks 1–4 lose percentage damage; rank 5 remains 10%. |
| W – Silver Bolts minimum damage | 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110 | 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 | Every rank has a lower minimum-damage value. |
How the mixed base-stat changes work
The health formula gives Vayne 580 starting health instead of 550, but only 98 health instead of 103 for each level of growth. Using the listed formulas, level 18 would be 2,246 health (580 + 98 × 17), compared with 2,301 under the old values (550 + 103 × 17), before items, runes or other modifiers. That is a stronger starting line with a lower late-level total from this stat alone; it should not be described as either a pure health buff or a pure health nerf.
Regeneration follows the same pattern. The base rises from 3.5 to 4, while the per-level increment falls from 0.55 to 0.5. At level 18, the listed values work out to 12.5 rather than 12.85. Early lane sustain therefore gets a small base increase, with the growth reduction becoming more relevant as levels accumulate.

Vayne’s attack-speed ratio increases from 0.658 to 0.67, but her growth drops from 3.3% to 2.8% per level. The ratio and growth terms interact with the game’s attack-speed formula, so the notes do not establish one universal attack-speed result for every level, item set or rune setup. The safe reading is that the ratio is improved while level scaling is reduced.

Q – Tumble: mana pressure before rank 5
Tumble now costs 46 mana at rank 1, 42 at rank 2, 38 at rank 3 and 34 at rank 4, while rank 5 stays at 30. Compared with the old flat 30 cost, that is an additional 16, 12, 8 and 4 mana respectively. Frequent early Tumbles consume a larger share of Vayne’s lane resource, making repeated short trades and last-hit repositioning more expensive before the ability is maxed.
W – Silver Bolts: lower early and mid-rank damage
The percentage of the target’s maximum health dealt as true damage falls from 6% to 4% at rank 1, 7% to 5.5% at rank 2, 8% to 7% at rank 3 and 9% to 8.5% at rank 4. Rank 5 remains 10%, so the percentage nerf is concentrated before the final rank. The minimum-damage floor is reduced at all five ranks, from 50/65/80/95/110 to 40/55/70/85/100. These are ability parameters; the patch notes do not claim a measured change to Vayne’s win rate, kill rate or matchup results.
Other standard-League champion changes
The following adjustments belong to the standard League section of the patch notes, not League Classic.

| Aurelion Sol | Q mana cost is lower and W cooldown is shorter. |
| Cho’Gath | E base damage is higher. |
| Graves | Q bonus-AD ratios are reduced. |
| Irelia | Q AD ratio increases; W and R AP ratios increase. |
| LeBlanc | Attack-speed ratio and growth are adjusted, while W and mimicked-W AP ratios are higher. |
| Nasus | Passive lifesteal is lower, supporting Riot’s stated top-lane relief goal. |
| Nocturne | Armor and health are reduced. |
| Qiyana | Q damage and bonus-AD ratio increase, but the monster-damage modifier decreases. |
| Thresh | E active damage and AP ratio are lower. |
| Trundle | W attack speed is higher. |
| Xerath | Health and Q damage are reduced. |
| Yasuo and Yone | Their critical-strike damage reduction becomes less severe, improving the value of scaling critical builds. |
How Riot groups these champion adjustments
- Top-lane relief: Nasus and Vayne receive nerfs aimed at reducing pressure in top lane.
- Melee AD-carry scaling: Irelia, Qiyana, Yasuo and Yone receive changes that improve selected damage or scaling tools, with Qiyana’s monster modifier preventing her champion buff from translating directly into the same jungle damage.
- Power reductions: Xerath, Nocturne and Graves are among the stronger performers Riot is reducing.
- Follow-up and utility buffs: Aurelion Sol, Cho’Gath, LeBlanc and Trundle receive targeted improvements rather than broad reworks.
Standard-game item changes
Stormrazor
Stormrazor’s attack speed rises from 20% to 25%. The notes identify this as an attack-speed increase, with no additional price or stat change specified in the supplied patch record.

Sundered Sky
Sundered Sky is reduced again: health falls from 450 to 400 and attack damage from 45 to 40. Those are direct item-stat reductions in the standard-game item section. The notes do not provide a post-patch performance measurement for the item.

League Classic has its own section in the 26.17 notes. Do not apply the Classic-only systems or item changes to standard League. Riot’s Classic coverage includes champion balance, item changes, rune and progression adjustments, champion swapping, pick-order swapping, visual updates and bug fixes.
Classic progression and rune updates
- Two free rune pages are added.
- IP earned per game is more than doubled.
- Classic XP earned per game is doubled.
- Costs for some runes are reduced.
These are Classic progression changes. The notes do not state that the same IP, XP or rune-page rules apply to standard League.

Classic items and balance
The Classic section includes champion balance changes and item work involving Innervating Locket and Wriggle’s Lantern/Feral Flare. Because the supplied notes summary does not provide each numerical Classic champion or item value, those entries should be read from Riot’s Classic subsection rather than inferred from the standard-game table above. The important distinction is scope: a Classic item adjustment is not evidence that the modern standard-game version changed.

Champion Select and ranked presentation
Classic Champion Select gains champion and role swaps while lanes stay the same. Players can request or accept a swap, and champion pick-order swapping is also described. The notes additionally describe a Council vote and changes to ranked loading-screen borders. These are systems and presentation changes, not balance changes to Vayne or the other standard-game champions.
Visuals and bug fixes
Riot lists Summoner’s Rift art and lighting updates for Classic, alongside bug fixes. They are included in the Classic portion of the patch notes and should not be folded into the standard-game balance summary.
What Vayne players should watch after installing 26.17
- Early lane resource use: Rank-one Tumble costs 46 instead of 30 mana, so repeated mobility trades are less forgiving before Q is leveled.
- Silver Bolts timing: The largest percentage reductions occur at ranks 1 and 2, while the rank-5 percentage remains 10%; minimum damage is lower at every rank.
- Level-one durability: Starting health and base regeneration are higher, so the first levels do not behave like a simple defensive nerf.
- Longer games: Lower health and regeneration growth, plus lower attack-speed growth, become more relevant as levels accumulate, although the attack-speed ratio itself is higher.
- Lane context: Riot’s stated target is top lane. The notes do not claim that bot-lane Vayne has been solved, and Riot leaves open larger-scope work for that position.
What the patch notes do—and do not—prove
Patch notes establish the new numerical parameters, Riot’s design intent and the game mode to which each change applies. They do not establish a universal win-rate movement, a guaranteed matchup result or a fixed build recommendation. Actual outcomes can vary with level, items, runes, lane position, team composition and whether the match is standard League or League Classic. No independent post-release performance data is included with this patch record.
For a precise reading, first identify the mode, then compare the old and new value at the ability rank or level you use, and finally account for the direction of every related stat. That method matters especially for Vayne: her Q and W are clearly weaker in early and mid ranks, but health, regeneration and attack-speed lines contain both increases and decreases.
