League of Legends Worlds 2026 is scheduled to be played on Patch 26.20, but the tournament has not begun as of October 7, 2026. Riot’s notes identify which champions and items it is tuning for competitive play; they do not establish which picks will succeed or how teams will draft. The likely impact is concentrated in professional staples, potential alternatives such as Kennen and Kindred, and the balance between escape utility and all-in damage.
Riot says Patch 26.20 is the Summoner’s Rift patch for its “year-defining competitive play.” Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes were published October 6, 2026.
What changed in the Worlds patch?
Riot frames 26.20 as pro-play tuning: it reduces the reliability or resources of established picks, adjusts Yunara’s scaling and slow interaction, and buffs champions it considers potentially close to viable. Those are design intentions, not evidence that a champion will be picked, banned, or displaced at Worlds.
The changes below cover Summoner’s Rift. Classic, ARAM, and ARAM: Mayhem adjustments are mode-specific and do not belong to the Worlds balance picture. Digital cosmetics are not gameplay changes.

Which champion nerfs could affect Worlds drafts?
| Champion | Patch 26.20 change | Why it may matter |
|---|---|---|
| Ambessa | Drakehound’s Step passive damage changes from 5–30 (+25% bonus AD) to 5–25 (+20% bonus AD). | Riot says her late-game output has been too reliable for high-mastery players, especially in pro play. This targets damage contribution rather than removing her from consideration. |
| Ashe | Attack damage growth per level falls from 3.5 to 3. | Riot calls her a premier pro-play marksman whose raw damage is too high for the utility she brings. Her utility remains; the adjustment trims scaling damage. |
| Cassiopeia | Base health falls from 630 to 610, and base mana from 480 to 450. | Riot says her early lane is dominant and is targeting early resources. It expects professionals to be disproportionately affected by earlier changes, but the notes do not measure the result of this patch. |
| K’Sante | W mana cost rises at every rank from 40/45/50/55/60 to 45/50/55/60/65. Its damage reduction changes from 30/75% to 25/70%. | Riot wants him to be a less reliable blind pick in coordinated play, targeting early mana pressure and consistent damage reduction. |
| Yunara | Q passive and active on-hit damage each fall from 5/10/15/20/25 (+20% AP) to 3/8/13/18/23 (+20% AP). W’s slow no longer stacks with other slows. | Riot says it wants to avoid a low-interaction “handshake hyperscaler do nothing” pattern. The changes push against that pattern but do not establish who will hold bot-lane priority at Worlds. |
Which buffs could widen champion options?
Kennen
E’s bonus attack speed increases by 10 percentage points at every rank, from 40/50/60/70/80% to 50/60/70/80/90%. W’s passive damage changes from 40/50/60/70/80% total AD to 25/40/55/70/85 plus 100% bonus AD. Riot says it is particularly trying to help AD Kennen and offset some Rocketbelt downside. That makes him a candidate to watch, not a confirmed Worlds pick.
Kindred
W’s monster damage modifier increases from 150% to 165%, and E’s slow lasts 1.5 seconds instead of 1. Small-monster targeting is removed. Riot describes Kindred as weak and says the change is designed not to make early invades much more overwhelming. The patch creates a possible route back into consideration; tournament drafts will determine whether teams use it.

Other Summoner’s Rift buffs and adjustments
- Diana: W’s bonus-health shield ratio rises from 11% to 14%.
- Lillia: R duration changes from 2.5 seconds at all ranks to 2.5/2.75/3 seconds.
- Lucian: Attack-damage growth increases from 2.5 to 2.9.
- Mordekaiser: Q receives more scaling at levels 10–20; R cooldowns fall at ranks one and two.
- Neeko: E damage and empowered-root duration increase.
- Swain: Base magic resistance rises, base armor falls, and W damage increases while its cooldown decreases.
- Tahm Kench: Q healing increases.
- Vayne: Health regeneration improves and Q’s mana cost becomes a flat 30.
- Smolder: Passive and ultimate scaling are adjusted to better support crit builds relative to bruiser builds. This expresses a build-direction goal, not proof of adoption.
- Nautilus: W gains damage over time and shield bonus-health scaling and duration, alongside bug fixes. Riot says it wants to encourage him in jungle and top as well as address weakness in support.
Riot gives individual rationales for these changes, but the notes do not say that every buffed champion is expected to appear at Worlds.
How do item changes alter the balance of power?
| Item or system | Patch 26.20 change | Potential competitive effect |
|---|---|---|
| Hextech Rocketbelt | Ability haste falls from 20 to 10; active damage rises from 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP). | Riot wants less generic escape value and more emphasis on aggressive use, especially for AP bruisers relying on all-ins. The trade-off is not an unqualified nerf for every user. |
| Experimental Hexplate | The ranged-user modifier falls from 70% to 50% of the item’s value. | Ranged users receive less of its attack-speed and movement-speed benefits. Riot cites ranged first-rush top-lane resilience and all-in lethality. |
| Runaan’s Hurricane | Attack damage per bolt falls from 65% to 60%. | Riot describes the prior item state as slightly overbuffed. |
| Spirit Visage | Health regeneration rises from 4 to 20 per five seconds. | Part of Riot’s broader effort to increase health regeneration on selected tank items. |
| Force of Nature | Health regeneration rises from 20 to 40 per five seconds. | Part of the same tank-item regeneration adjustment. |
| Warmog’s Armor | Health regeneration rises from 10 to 30 per five seconds. | Part of the same tank-item regeneration adjustment. |
What other patch changes should viewers know about?
Scoreboard readability
Riot hides many item counters from scoreboard icons while retaining strategically relevant counters, including Tear items and Mejai’s. This is a readability change, not a balance adjustment.

Replay access and analysis
Starting with Patch 26.20, players can access only replays of matches they played. Other players and third-party apps or sites lose replay-download access; players can still download and watch their own replays in the client. Riot says the change addresses security vulnerabilities. It is separate from Worlds balance, but it affects viewers and analysts who rely on match replays.

Because the first match is scheduled for October 15, Patch 26.20’s actual tournament effects are not yet known as of October 7. Riot’s patch notes and event schedule provide no patch-specific Worlds pick/ban rates or performance statistics. Once games begin, useful evidence will include champion and role, pick-ban frequency, lane matchups and early-resource pressure, scaling versus early tempo, engage versus escape value, and whether a buff creates a genuine alternative pick.
