If Lost Ark freezes briefly, drops frames, or looks choppy, first work out whether the symptom is local performance, network lag, or input delay. Lost Ark Support recommends a sequence of checks—starting with display mode, background programs, graphics settings, drivers, and game files—rather than a single guaranteed fix. Change one thing at a time and compare the same in-game activity so you can identify what actually helps your PC.
Is it an FPS problem, network lag, or input delay?
Players use “lag” to describe several different problems. The distinction matters because a dropped frame and a delayed server response call for different checks.

- Local performance: low FPS, a choppy image, or brief freezes point toward rendering or system performance. Lost Ark Support lists low FPS and choppy gameplay among its performance symptoms (Lost Ark Support: troubleshooting performance issues).
- Network lag: rubber-banding or warping, delayed damage registration, characters stuck in place, disconnects, and lag spikes are network symptoms. Lost Ark Support describes gaming lag as delay between a player action and the server’s response (Lost Ark Support: troubleshooting lag).
- Input delay: a pause between a keyboard, mouse, or controller command and the display reacting can involve input devices or settings. The game’s input-lag guidance suggests temporarily switching to wired devices to rule out wireless interference or latency (Lost Ark Support: troubleshooting input lag).
A wired mouse is a diagnostic, not a proven cure for FPS drops or engine micro-stutters. Try one you already own before considering a purchase.
How to troubleshoot Lost Ark stutters and FPS drops
Lost Ark Support’s recommendations are diagnostic steps, not a promise that every system has the same cause. Test one change at a time. Revisit the same raid, busy area, or other repeatable activity and note average FPS, frame-time spikes, temperatures, and utilization if you have monitoring tools available.

- Compare display modes. Switch between windowed or borderless and full-screen, then repeat the same activity to see whether the stutter changes.
- Reduce background activity. Close programs you do not need while playing. Pause downloads and other tasks that write heavily to disk.
- Reset and lower graphics settings. Start with the game’s Auto Settings. If the problem persists, lower graphics options and retest rather than changing several settings at once.
- Check Windows and graphics drivers. Install available Windows updates and make sure your graphics driver is current.
- Verify the game files in Steam. In Steam, open Library, right-click Lost Ark, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Allow the check to finish before launching again.
- Isolate background services. A Windows clean boot starts Windows without unnecessary programs or services, helping narrow down software conflicts. Follow Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure carefully; if the issue disappears, re-enable items in a controlled way to identify the conflict.
- Restore GPU control-panel profiles to defaults. Custom per-game or global settings in graphics-driver software can affect behavior. Reset them before testing further.
- Check for overheating. Lost Ark Support notes that overheating can cause performance issues and symptoms vary by situation. If temperatures are unusually high or performance worsens during longer sessions, investigate cooling and airflow rather than assuming a game setting is responsible.
- Scan for malware if there are other signs of a system problem. This is a general diagnostic step, not evidence that malware is a usual cause of Lost Ark stutters.
If the game’s movement or image stays smooth but actions arrive late, use the network checks in Lost Ark Support’s lag troubleshooting guide: check downloads and high-bandwidth household use, verify game files, restart the router or modem, and try a wired network connection. Keep this separate from FPS testing; a network issue does not necessarily mean the game is rendering fewer frames.
Compare your PC with both published requirement listings
Lost Ark Support and Steam currently publish different requirements. They may reflect different revisions or ways of presenting specifications; do not combine them into one list. Requirements are comparison points, not a guarantee of smooth frame pacing, and they cannot identify a particular PC’s bottleneck.

Steam says its requirements may change over time. Check the live support and store pages for the current listing, especially before making an upgrade decision. The published component examples do not establish how a particular configuration will perform in a specific raid or patch.
What community reports can—and cannot—tell you
In a June 2026 post on r/lostarkgame, one player described raid freezes and reported average FPS around 75–100+, with brief 1% lows of 3–5 FPS and a drop in GPU utilization. The poster listed experiments including freeing disk space, reducing a Logitech mouse’s polling rate from 1000 Hz to 500 Hz, changing chat settings, trying launch options, and installing a standby-memory utility; the poster also said one proposed change had not yet been tested over a long session.

That is one person’s self-report, not an independently verified measurement or controlled test. It can suggest ideas to investigate, but it does not establish a universal cause or show that those changes work for other PCs. The official troubleshooting guidance supports checking settings, software, files, drivers, and temperature; it does not establish command-line flags or third-party memory-cleaning utilities as proven fixes.
