What is Lost Marbles?
This review covers Lost Marbles, developed and published by Binary Takeover and released on Steam on May 30, 2014—not other games that share its name. The game’s premise is straightforward: guide three marbles through obstacle courses, switching between them to reach each level’s endpoint. The official Steam listing summarizes their powers: “Each marble has a different material and special power: Rubber can jump, Paper can shrink, and Metal can boost.”
How do the marble abilities shape the puzzles?
The three materials give the game its central puzzle language. Rubber can jump and float on water, paper can shrink to pass through narrow spaces but is vulnerable to hazards, and metal can boost and break some obstacles. Progress comes from recognizing which marble can handle a particular obstacle and when to switch or combine abilities.
That setup gives levels room to build on familiar rules rather than constantly introduce new ones. Capsule Computers’ 2013 review describes short introductory puzzles that teach abilities before the challenges grow more involved. IndieGameMag’s 2020 review likewise praises the clarity of the mechanics and the distinct roles of the marbles. The design’s appeal is less about surprise than about applying what the game has taught you in an increasingly demanding sequence.

How difficult is Lost Marbles?
The early learning curve is described as approachable, but later levels bring together logic, dexterity, and timing. Capsule Computers found most puzzles well judged, while noting that a few called for near-perfect timing. IndieGameMag also describes a gentle start followed by more demanding scenarios. That makes the game’s challenge a mix: some progress depends on solving the right sequence, and some depends on executing it accurately.
If you enjoy replaying a section to refine a jump or nail a timed maneuver, that precision can be part of the satisfaction. If you prefer puzzles that can be solved without platforming pressure, the later timing demands may feel less inviting.

How are the controls, camera, and presentation?
The Steam listing names Xbox 360 controller support. Capsule Computers’ 2013 review says the game can also be played with mouse and keyboard, and its reviewer preferred that setup for precision. That is one reviewer’s preference rather than a universal verdict; the better choice depends on whether you value direct mouse-and-keyboard precision or prefer a gamepad for platforming.
The reviewers describe bright, cartoony visuals and music, with clear edges that help make the courses readable. The presentation supports the puzzles rather than carrying a larger dramatic premise. IndieGameMag characterizes the game as effectively without a narrative, so players primarily interested in story should look elsewhere.

How much content and replay value is listed?
The current Steam listing advertises 40 levels, Hardcore mode, unlockable skins, online leaderboards, and Xbox 360 controller support. Capsule Computers’ 2013 review mentioned 30 levels at the time it was written; the later 40-level figure is the count now advertised by Steam. Leaderboards and faster-time goals give players a reason to revisit courses, while Hardcore mode offers another listed challenge. These features do not establish a typical completion time, which the available sources do not report.
Is Lost Marbles worth playing?
Lost Marbles is a focused choice for players who like puzzle-platformers that teach a small set of mechanics and then ask for increasingly careful combinations of them. Its three-marble system provides a clear foundation for problem-solving, and the gradual increase in difficulty gives the game a recognizable arc. Its trade-offs are equally clear: later sections can demand precise timing, and there is little narrative motivation beyond clearing the courses.

Steam’s retrieved listing showed a price of $9.99, but price and availability can change by region and over time. The same listing showed 58% positive from 12 Steam user reviews when accessed in 2026, labeled “Mixed.” That is a small, platform-specific sample, not a critic score or a representative poll of all owners, and the figure may change.
