To let a real player visit your LOTRO home, add that character in the house’s Permissions panel and grant Visitor access. Visitor means entry only: storage, upkeep, decorating, and permission management are separate controls. NPC Neighbours use a different system, while kinship members can also travel to a player’s designated Primary Residence through the Social Kinship panel.
How do I allow my friends to visit my house?
- At your home, open the Housing Management panel and choose Permissions. LOTRO’s Housing FAQs identify this panel as the place to manage housing access.
- Add the friend’s character with the Individual option. This assigns access to the specific character you select.
- Enable Visitor. That permits entry to the home. Being on your Friends list is not documented as an automatic substitute for this house permission.
- Grant other permissions only if you want to. The FAQ lists Housing Chests, Upkeep, Decorate, and Manage Permissions as separate controls; Visitor alone does not grant those capabilities.
Menu wording can change over time, so use the house Permissions panel as the reference point if your current interface differs from an older support page.
What does Visitor permission let someone do?
Visitor is the entry permission, not general control of the property. A visitor cannot use housing chests, pay upkeep, change decorations, or manage permissions unless you separately grant the relevant access in the Permissions panel, according to the official Housing FAQs.
How can a kinship member visit a player’s home?
A player can designate one property as their Primary Residence, and a kinship member can use the Visit button in the Social Kinship panel to travel to it. LOTRO’s Update 27 Release Notes say only one property can be primary at a time and that kinship properties cannot be selected. The same notes explain that the designation is made in the Player House Info panel.

This is a kinship-specific travel route; it does not replace the house Permissions controls for friends who need ordinary visitor access.
Are NPC Neighbours the same as player visitors?
No. A real player needs housing permissions (or, as a kinship member, may use the Primary Residence Visit option). The announced NPC Neighbours feature instead uses a special invitation item: place the item on a housing hook to invite that neighbour character to visit.

LOTRO’s Aug. 2, 2026 Neighbours overview describes representatives of the four primary Free Peoples and says the displayed item serves as an invitation, allowing that neighbour to visit when desired. The feature is framed as part of The Wolves of Mordor pre-release offerings; that announcement alone does not establish that the expansion or every described system is live as of Oct. 4, 2026.
What the Neighbours feature is for
Neighbours are relationship gameplay rather than a way to grant a human player access. Official descriptions discuss conversations, gifts, daily missions or quests, story-sharing, visits, and personal story adventures. The Aug. overview describes a daily selection of five Neighbour Missions; the Sep. 23, 2026 guide describes daily quests and a journal of experiences shared with a neighbour. Matching stories to a neighbour’s interests can strengthen friendship, while a poor match may slow progress or affect the neighbour’s mood. The guide also describes gifts, milestone story adventures, and rewards that can include crafting materials and traceries.

How many personality traits do Neighbours have?
The official materials differ: the newer Sep. 23 guide says 21 personality traits, while the Aug. 2 overview says 20. If the exact count matters, the later guide gives 21, but LOTRO’s two descriptions are inconsistent.
