The LPL is China’s regional professional League of Legends league; the Demacia Cup is a separate tournament. LPL teams can enter the Cup, but it is not an LPL split or a league championship. The distinction matters especially in 2026: the LPL is a seasonal competition, while the Demacia Cup is announced as a 12-team international invitational.
Is the Demacia Cup part of the LPL?
No. They are distinct competitions with different formats and purposes. The LPL is the regional league season, while the Demacia Cup is a standalone tournament. An LPL team may compete in the Cup, but doing so does not make the Cup part of the LPL standings or turn it into another split.
How the LPL works
Riot’s 2026 LPL handbook describes a regional competition involving all teams in the region and lists 14 teams. Its season includes a group-based regular season, play-ins and an eight-team double-elimination playoff. The league determines regional standings and playoff results; in the 2026 season, the top two LPL seeds qualify for First Stand, according to Riot’s 2026 season handbook.
How the Demacia Cup differs
The Cup is a separate event, and its scope can change from one edition to another. The 2025 edition was a domestic post-season tournament. Huya’s announcement said 14 LPL teams and two streamer squads competed from December 15, 2025, to January 3, 2026. Liquipedia’s 2025 event page records group stages followed by an eight-team, single-elimination best-of-five knockout, using Fearless Draft. Those are details of that edition, not standing rules for every Demacia Cup.

The 2026 Demacia Cup is international
The 2026 edition is announced as the Demacia Cup Global Invitational, co-hosted by TJ Sports and Huya. A Jiemian News report carrying the announcement says it is scheduled for October 3–17, 2026, with 12 invited teams from six regions: LPL, LCK, LEC, LCS, LCP and CBLOL. The invitees are described as teams that did not qualify for Worlds. The announced total prize pool is ¥1.5 million, and the final eight are set to play offline at Beijing Smart Esports Event Center. These details come from the Jiemian report; it does not establish the full match format for this edition.

What to keep in mind when comparing editions
- Do not assume the Demacia Cup is always domestic: the 2026 edition is announced as international.
- Do not carry the 2025 format, entrants, dates or draft rules forward to 2026; the available announcement gives the event’s dates and some venue and entrant details, but not its complete match structure.
- The Cup is not a substitute for the LPL season. Its 2026 invitees are described as teams that missed Worlds, and the announcement does not connect the Cup to LPL standings or Worlds qualification.
