If Steam reports that some files could not be validated, start the game once more. Local configuration files can sometimes be excluded from verification. If the named DLL is still absent, open the game’s installation folder and confirm whether the launcher restored it beside the game executable or in the original game subfolder.
Another launcher or a retail installer
Use the launcher’s repair, scan, or verify option. The wording varies, but it is usually found in one of these places:
- The game’s library entry under a three-dot menu
- Manage, Properties, or Installation
- A launcher menu named Repair, Verify, or Scan and repair
For a disc or standalone installation, run the original installer again and choose Repair if that option is available. Avoid downloading an isolated DLL when the installer can restore the complete, matching set of files.

A clean reinstall is the definitive fix when the installation is incomplete or contains a mismatched DLL.
- Back up saved games and custom settings. Check the game’s documentation if you are unsure where saves are stored.
- Uninstall the affected game from its launcher or from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the game again through its original launcher, store, or installer.
- Do not move individual DLLs into the installation folder afterward.
- Start the game from the launcher.
If the game was moved manually between drives, return it to a launcher-managed location first. Then run file verification. Moving only part of an installation can leave the executable, DLLs, and prerequisite files separated.
If the error returns immediately after a clean installation, check antivirus quarantine before reinstalling repeatedly.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine and protection history
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Security software may quarantine a game DLL even when the game installation is legitimate. Do not disable antivirus protection permanently and do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected game folder or
luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll. - Review the detection details and file path.
- If the game came from a legitimate source and the detection is identified as a false positive, follow Windows Security’s Restore or Allow on device process.

Right-click each installer and select Run as administrator. Restart Windows after both installers finish, then launch the game.
A 32-bit game generally needs the x86 Visual C++ runtime even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing only an x64 package does not satisfy a 32-bit application. Microsoft’s current Visual C++ guidance explains the architecture requirement on its Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
The legacy DirectX package supplies older components used by games, including D3DX, XAudio, XInput, and XACT files. It does not install or replace luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll. Microsoft provides the package through the DirectX End-User Runtime download page.
Some affected games also include PhysX installers or PhysX libraries. If the game’s Redist folder contains a PhysX setup program, run that installer as well. Do not install random runtime packages simply because their names appear in a generic DLL repair article.

Fix 5: Check whether a dependency is missing
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that the named DLL itself is absent. Windows can display it when luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll is present but one of its required dependencies cannot be loaded.
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Confirm that
luaplus5.1_r_2010.dllis located where the original installation placed it, normally beside the game executable or in its application directory. - Do not rename it or substitute
lua5.1.dll,lua51.dll, LuaJIT files, or a DLL from another game. - Run the bundled Visual C++, DirectX, and PhysX installers.

A different error can also indicate a mismatched build. “The procedure entry point could not be located” usually means that the executable found a DLL with the right name but the wrong exports. Replace the entire game installation through verification or reinstall instead of searching for another similarly named file.
Fix 6: Keep the 32-bit DLL with the game

Available public evidence points to a 32-bit game DLL. On 64-bit Windows, that does not mean you should copy it to either Windows DLL folder.

Despite the confusing names, System32 is primarily used for 64-bit system components on 64-bit Windows, while SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit system components. Neither folder is the correct home for a private game runtime.
The correct location is the application directory selected by the game’s installer. Windows normally searches the application directory early when resolving a DLL required by that application. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order documentation.
A 64-bit replacement is not interchangeable with a 32-bit build. Neither is a DLL from another game, even if the filename looks similar.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32
Time needed: 1 minute
regsvr32 is for registering compatible COM or ActiveX DLLs. luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll is an application runtime normally loaded by the game executable, not a component that should be manually registered.

Running a command such as this is not a repair:
regsvr32 luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll
It may produce an error saying that the module was loaded but DllRegisterServer could not be found. That does not indicate that the game DLL is missing registration. Verification, prerequisite repair, or reinstalling the game is the appropriate path.
Fix 8: Repair Windows components only when other programs are also failing
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They are unlikely to recreate a private game DLL that never shipped with Windows, so use them when you also see damaged-system symptoms across multiple applications.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- When DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again and test it.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions. If both commands report no violations but only this game fails, focus on the game installation rather than Windows.
Manually hunting through Windows repair commands and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Fix 9: Update graphics and chipset drivers if the game still will not start
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Drivers do not normally recreate luaplus5.1_r_2010.dll, but an old game can fail during startup when its graphics or supporting drivers are damaged.

- Expand Display adapters.

If only one Windows user account has the problem

Do not copy DLLs between profiles. Check that the affected account can read and execute files in the game folder, remove problematic per-user configuration only after backing it up, and use the launcher’s repair function. If necessary, create a clean test account and report the comparison to the game developer.
If every repair fails
Collect the following before contacting support:
- The exact error text
- Game name and edition
- Game version shown by the launcher
- Windows version and whether it is 64-bit
- Full installation path
- Whether verification restored any files
- Antivirus quarantine details
- Results from the bundled prerequisite installers
- Relevant entries from Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application
A clean reinstall after backing up saves is the next practical step. System Restore is a last resort for a recent system regression, not a normal source for this file.
