This is usually a Lexmark scanner component, not a Windows runtime. The safest fix is to identify the Lexmark printer or multifunction device that installed it, then reinstall its complete official Windows print and scan package.
Which fix applies to you
Use the branch that matches what happened:
- You still use a Lexmark printer or multifunction device: reinstall the exact Lexmark driver package for that model and your Windows architecture.
- The error appeared after a driver update or Windows update: roll back or reinstall the Lexmark package, then test scanning through Windows Scan.
- You removed the Lexmark device: uninstall the old Lexmark software and remove its stale printer, scanner, startup, or scheduled-task entry.
- Your security software quarantined the file: check its quarantine history, but prefer reinstalling the driver from Lexmark rather than restoring an isolated DLL.
- Several Windows components are failing: run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC. These repair Windows files, not necessarily a missing third-party Lexmark DLL.
- The error appears at startup but scanning still works: investigate a leftover Lexmark startup item or scheduled task before reinstalling everything.
- The device is old and the current package does not install: check Device Manager, try the supported Windows scanning path, and contact Lexmark with the model and Windows version.
What lxaa1mini.dll actually is
Public file records describe lxaa1mini.dll as a WIA Mini Driver associated with Lexmark International. Those records report a 32-bit version 1.0.0.0 file of approximately 0.22 MB. The metadata comes from third-party file databases rather than a verified Lexmark release manifest, so it should be treated as an identification clue, not proof that every copy with that name is safe.
WIA means Windows Image Acquisition. It is Microsoft’s framework for allowing Windows and applications to communicate with scanners and the scanning functions of multifunction printers. A WIA minidriver is a vendor-supplied component that tells Windows how to communicate with that particular imaging hardware.

That explains why a file with “mini” in its name can appear alongside a print driver. A multifunction printer is not only a printer. Its package may contain print, scan, fax, status-monitor, and installer components. The WIA portion handles the scanner side, even when the package is downloaded from a printer’s support page.
There is no reliable evidence that lxaa1mini.dll belongs to the base Windows installation. It should not normally be copied into C:WindowsSystem32, downloaded as a loose replacement, or treated like a missing Visual C++ or DirectX runtime.
The exact Lexmark model that originally installed this file cannot be identified from the filename alone. Multiple Lexmark driver generations may use related components, and a current package may no longer contain this legacy filename.
Check what is requesting the file
Before changing anything, capture the exact error and identify the process that triggers it.
- Write down the complete message, including any error code.
- Note whether it appears when Windows starts, when you open a Lexmark utility, when you scan, or when you print.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners.
- Look for a Lexmark printer or scanner.
- Select it and record the full model name.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and search for Lexmark software.
- Check Task Manager > Startup apps for Lexmark entries.
If the message appears only during scanning, the WIA component is probably being loaded by a Lexmark scan utility or the Windows imaging stack. If it appears during startup after the printer was removed, a stale startup reference is more likely.
A missing-file message does not always mean that the named file alone is missing. The DLL may be present but unable to load because one of its dependencies is missing, it is damaged, or a 32-bit component is being launched through an incompatible installation.

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Lexmark package
This is the most likely repair when you still use the device.
- Find the printer or multifunction device’s exact model from its label, Windows Settings, or the printer’s configuration page.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads portal in your browser.
- Search for the exact model, not merely “Lexmark printer.”
- Select your installed Windows edition and architecture.
- Download the complete official print and scan package rather than a random DLL.
- If the installer recommends removing the existing package, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the Lexmark application or driver package listed there.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the downloaded Lexmark installer as administrator. Right-click it, select Show more options if necessary, then choose Run as administrator.
- Connect or select the printer when the installer requests it.
- Restart again if the installer asks you to.
- Open Printers & scanners, select the Lexmark device, and confirm that it is present.
- Test a scan with Windows Scan or the Lexmark scanning application.
A successful repair means the application opens without the DLL message and the scanner completes a preview or scan. Do not assume that a current package must contain lxaa1mini.dll; the vendor may have replaced the component. The practical test is whether the correct device functions normally.
If the installer fails, remove the old Lexmark device from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, restart, and run the official installer again. For persistent driver conflicts, open Control Panel > Devices and Printers, select Print server properties, open the Drivers tab, and remove only obsolete Lexmark drivers that are no longer used by another printer.
Manually removing Driver Store files or deleting random DLLs can damage other devices. If several Lexmark generations are installed, record the models first and remove only packages you know are obsolete.
Hunting through several driver versions and checking each device manually is tedious, particularly when Windows has multiple stale entries. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full version performs the driver installation, but reinstalling the exact Lexmark package remains the definitive repair for this device-specific DLL.
Fix 2: Remove a stale Lexmark installation
If you no longer own the Lexmark device, restoring the DLL may be the wrong solution. Windows or an old Lexmark utility may still be trying to launch a component for hardware that is gone.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for
Lexmark. - Uninstall Lexmark utilities, scan software, and printer software that you no longer need.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Lexmark device.
- Choose Remove.
- Open Task Manager > Startup apps.
- Disable a Lexmark startup entry only after confirming that the device is no longer used.
- Restart Windows.
If the error returns, inspect Task Scheduler. Press Start, type Task Scheduler, and open it. Select Task Scheduler Library and look for clearly named Lexmark tasks. Check the task’s Actions tab before disabling it. Do not remove a task merely because it contains a similar name.

If the message disappears after removing the obsolete software, the problem was a stale reference rather than an active scanner failure.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a driver DLL after a detection, cleanup, or false positive.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
lxaa1mini.dllor Lexmark software. - Note the detected path and the action taken.
- Do not restore the file automatically.
- If the device is still needed, reinstall the complete Lexmark package from the official vendor portal.
- Run a full Windows Security scan before testing the driver again.
Restore a quarantined file only when you have confirmed that it belongs to the installed Lexmark package and is digitally trusted. If the detection followed suspicious software or malware activity, prioritize malware investigation and a trusted package reinstall.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Reported records identify lxaa1mini.dll as 32-bit. That does not automatically make it wrong on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit Lexmark application, and that application may correctly load a 32-bit WIA component.
The important match is between the DLL and the Lexmark component that calls it.
- Open Settings > System > About.
- Check System type.
- Return to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and note the Lexmark package version or name.
- Download the package specifically offered for your Windows edition and architecture.
- Do not replace the file with an arbitrary 64-bit DLL.
- Do not copy a file named
lxaa2mini.dllorlxaa3mini.dllas a substitute.
A “not designed to run on Windows” message can indicate wrong architecture, corruption, or a missing dependency. Reinstalling the complete matching package is safer than trying to correct the architecture by hand.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this branch when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the error began after broader system corruption. These commands are unlikely to recreate a Lexmark DLL that was removed from a third-party driver package.
- Install pending updates through Settings > Windows Update.
- Restart Windows.
- Press Start, type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows when SFC finishes.
- Test the Lexmark application or Windows Scan again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files against that repaired store. If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, the missing Lexmark component still needs a driver-package repair. If either command reports that it could not complete, copy the result and investigate Windows servicing separately rather than repeatedly running the same command.
If you want a guided way to identify damaged Windows components instead of repeatedly guessing which repair command to run, Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show detected issues; its full version performs repairs, but it is not required and it cannot replace the correct Lexmark installer for this DLL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver installation, application removal, or Windows configuration change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Start and type
Create a restore point. - Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs to review the expected changes.
- Close applications and start the restore.
- Let Windows restart and complete the process.
- Test the scanner or Lexmark application.
System Restore rolls back system files, settings, and installed programs without normally affecting personal files. It may restore an older driver, but it does not guarantee that a damaged or incompatible Lexmark package will work permanently. If the error returns, reinstall the exact official package.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallShould you run regsvr32 lxaa1mini.dll?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering DLLs and ActiveX controls that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A WIA minidriver is normally installed through the vendor’s signed driver package and INF instructions. Microsoft also documents failures caused by missing dependencies and using the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit registration utility.
Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 lxaa1mini.dll
A successful registration message would not prove that the WIA driver is installed correctly, and an error may simply indicate that this DLL is not designed for manual registration. Use the Lexmark installer instead. Only run regsvr32 if Lexmark’s instructions for your exact model explicitly require it.

Why standalone DLL downloads are unsafe
A loose DLL from a search result can be:
- Malware or a tampered replacement
- The wrong version for your Lexmark package
- The wrong architecture
- Missing dependencies
- Unsigned or unrelated to the device
- Placed in a directory where it creates a different loading problem
Copying it into System32 can also hide the original installation problem while leaving the scanner driver, INF registration, and dependencies broken. The safe source is the official Lexmark Drivers & Downloads page for the exact model and Windows version. If you no longer use the device, remove the obsolete software instead of replacing its DLL.
Prevention and escalation
Keep the Lexmark installer for the device model in a safe location before removing an old driver. When updating, create a restore point and record the existing package name. Avoid third-party driver bundles and do not overwrite signed Driver Store files.

In Device Manager, expand Imaging devices, Cameras, and Printers, depending on how Windows categorizes the hardware. Right-click the Lexmark device, choose Properties, and inspect the General and Driver tabs. A device error there supports a driver problem; a clean device with only a startup popup points more strongly to stale software.
FAQ
Is lxaa1mini.dll a Windows system file?
There is no reliable evidence that it ships with the base Windows installation. It appears to be a Lexmark WIA minidriver component installed with a Lexmark print or scan package.
Which Lexmark model uses it?
The filename alone does not identify the exact printer or multifunction model. Check installed applications, Printers & scanners, Device Manager, old installer records, or the original device label.
Can I fix it by downloading the DLL?
That is not a safe or dependable repair. Reinstall the complete official Lexmark package so Windows receives the matching DLL, INF registration, dependencies, and device configuration.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Why does a printer driver need a scanner DLL?
Multifunction devices contain separate print and imaging functions. WIA allows Windows and scanner applications to communicate with the scanning hardware through a vendor minidriver.
Will SFC restore lxaa1mini.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs Windows-protected components. A Lexmark DLL normally comes from the Lexmark driver package, so reinstall that package first.
What if I no longer have the Lexmark printer?
Uninstall the old Lexmark software, remove the device from Printers & scanners, and disable its confirmed startup or scheduled-task references. A missing DLL popup from unused software does not require restoring the file.
