Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf your Mac mini YouTube livestream stops after a macOS update, the timing alone does not prove the update caused it. First find where the stream fails: the encoder may not authenticate, the encoder may run while YouTube receives no healthy signal, the connection may drop frames, or the stream may be live but fail for viewers. Each points to a different fix.
Identify where the stream stops
Before changing settings, note the exact macOS version, Mac mini chip or generation, encoder name and version, and the full error message. If you use OBS, save its log covering the failure. Also note whether the encoder stops, stays live, or continues making a local recording. These details help separate an encoder problem from an ingest connection or viewer-side issue.
- Encoder will not start or authenticate: look for a stream-key or connection error in the encoder.
- Encoder is running, but YouTube says to connect your encoder: YouTube may not be receiving a healthy stream.
- OBS keeps disconnecting from YouTube or reports dropped frames: investigate the connection to YouTube’s ingest server and whether it can sustain the configured bitrate.
- YouTube shows the stream as live, but viewers have trouble: check YouTube’s stream status and viewer-side symptoms rather than assuming the Mac stopped encoding.
YouTube’s current live-stream troubleshooting guidance covers encoder errors, stream quality, CPU load, local archives, outbound connectivity and viewer-side symptoms. Its encoder setup guidance explains the server URL and stream key used by third-party encoders.
Fix a stream-key or authentication failure
If you use a third-party encoder with a stream key, YouTube’s documented recovery is to create a new key in Live Control Room and replace the key in the encoder. This is a targeted test for an authentication problem; it will not fix dropped frames caused by a weak connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open the stream’s settings and generate a new stream key, following the controls shown for your stream.
- In your encoder, replace the saved stream key with the new one. Check that the server URL and selected stream are the intended ones.
- Start the encoder again and confirm that YouTube receives the stream.
If your software connects to YouTube without a stream key, YouTube directs users to that software’s support team. Do not treat key regeneration as a universal fix for every encoder connection error.
Check the encoder before blaming the network
If the encoder starts but YouTube does not receive a healthy feed, inspect the signal where it is created. YouTube recommends checking that the encoder is up to date, monitoring the preview, CPU load and encoder errors, and reviewing a local archive when available.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Preview or local archive is also broken: investigate the encoder, media source or encoding workload. A local file with the same faults suggests the problem is upstream of YouTube’s ingest connection.
- Preview and local archive are healthy, but YouTube’s feed is not: test the outbound connection and check the encoder’s connection status and errors.
- Encoder is out of date: update it only after checking that the version supports your installed macOS.
If the problem began after updating OBS or another encoder, verify version compatibility with your macOS release before reinstalling or changing unrelated settings. OBS maintains a macOS compatibility page; its listed versions can change, so check the current entry rather than relying on an old compatibility claim. OBS also notes that security software may scrutinize the app after a software update. If a controlled test points to that interference, add an OBS exception and re-enable the security software.
Fix OBS dropped frames and intermittent disconnections
OBS Project’s guidance is direct: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” This identifies the connection path as the place to investigate; it does not by itself identify whether Wi-Fi, bitrate, filtering or hardware is responsible.

- Check upload capacity. OBS suggests starting with a bitrate at 75% of total upload speed. Treat this as a starting point, not a guaranteed YouTube target: choose a bitrate your connection can sustain consistently.
- Run OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard if you need a starting configuration. Then test the stream and adjust based on stability, not just the highest setting the wizard offers.
- Temporarily isolate VPN or security filtering. Test in a controlled way to see whether the connection stabilizes. If security software is implicated, configure a targeted OBS exception and keep protection enabled.
- If the Mac is on Wi-Fi, test wired Ethernet. A wired connection removes Wi-Fi as a variable. If you already use Ethernet, inspect the cable and the rest of the path.
- Check intervening network hardware. OBS lists cables, router or modem, network cards, switches and extenders as possible faulty links. Test or bypass one component at a time where practical.
- If the connection itself tests poorly, contact your ISP. First establish that the local encoder and recording are healthy; then share the connection test results and stream times with the provider.
Review macOS firewall access only when evidence points there
Apple documents per-app firewall access at System Settings > Network > Firewall > Options. Review whether the encoder is allowed to accept connections if the symptoms suggest a firewall restriction. Blocking an app can affect its performance or software that depends on it. Make a specific access correction if needed; do not leave the firewall disabled as a permanent workaround.
When the stream is live but viewers still have a problem
A stream that appears live in the encoder may still have a YouTube-side or viewer-side symptom. Check YouTube’s stream status and the picture and sound a viewer receives. Compare that with the encoder preview and local archive: if those are sound but the YouTube feed is not, return to the ingest and connection checks; if YouTube’s feed is healthy but one viewer has trouble, investigate that viewer’s playback connection or device rather than changing Mac encoding settings without evidence.
