EA’s first Madden NFL 26 title update addressed stability, zone coverage and issues across several game modes, but its notes also named unresolved problems and fixes deferred to a later update. Some Reddit posters criticized what the patch left out; those comments are individual reactions, not evidence that most players were frustrated.
What the first Madden NFL 26 patch changed
EA published its first-update notes on August 27, 2025, and scheduled the update for download on August 28. The Madden Team said the update “primarily focuses on stability updates with various zone coverage improvements.” The official August 28 Title Update notes covered multiple parts of the game:

Gameplay and coverage
EA listed adjustments to Cover 2 Tampa, Cover 2 Hard Flats, Cover 3 Match, Cover 6 and Cover 4 Palms, along with quicker drops when shading coverage overtop. The update also added a custom playbook made in partnership with Kurt Benkert.
Franchise
Changes included faster entry into the Player Card, a fix for commissioner invites, fixes to Edge Player traits, and a Draft Board transparency fix. The Player Card change addressed getting into the card; EA said the transition back to the Franchise Main Menu was planned for the next title update.

Other modes and presentation
The notes also listed Superstar fixes for snow-game fumble rates and player positions. Ultimate Team changes addressed settings, pack visuals, navigation, rank text, Ranked progress display, crashes and item-rarity presentation. EA added Berlin, Madrid and Dublin as international stadiums and corrected commentary that misnamed some rookies.
What EA said was still unresolved
The first update’s notes did not present every reported issue as fixed. EA explicitly said it was still working on three problems:

- Class Import changing player body types.
- Players on injured reserve being unable to be removed from the IR list.
- Nose Tackle archetypes showing a different overall rating in the front end.
The notes also deferred the Player Card transition back to the Franchise Main Menu to the next title update. That makes the first patch incomplete by EA’s own account; whether its selected priorities were adequate is a matter of judgment.
Why some players were frustrated
Reddit search-result excerpts show individual players criticizing omissions. In a thread titled “First title update,” commenters raised simulated sacks and fatigue issues that were not mentioned in the notes (Reddit thread excerpt). Another poster wrote, “I literally cant play my franchise because i refuse to play a playoff game with my opponents players all in the wrong positions” (Reddit thread excerpt).

Those examples explain why the first update could disappoint players whose particular problems were not addressed. They are not a representative sample, a verified measure of bug prevalence, or proof that most Madden players were unhappy; the discussions could not be directly verified beyond their search-result excerpts.

EA published and scheduled its next update on September 16–17, 2025. In its September 17 Title Update notes, EA connected certain Franchise players appearing out of position to Progressive Fatigue. It removed Progressive Fatigue and introduced Wear and Tear Management. EA said Wear and Tear sliders were not yet available in Franchise and were being considered for a future update. It also said it was investigating a case in which a departing head coach could be replaced by an existing coordinator without a backfill.

The September notes distinguish between changes that address existing leagues and changes that do not: EA said the draft-body-type change would not apply to draft classes already in a league. That is a useful reminder that a listed fix does not necessarily change content already present in a save. The update notes document EA’s intended changes, but do not independently establish how effectively they worked for players.
