That price is reported by Gamezebo; current availability is disputed, so check the live game before committing to the route.
Check whether the Maelstrom Rod is obtainable now
Current guides disagree. The dedicated Maelstrom page on the Fisch Wiki, updated September 25, 2026, says the rod is no longer obtainable, while its fishing-rods list, updated September 30, 2026, marks it obtainable: Fisch Wiki: Maelstrom Rod and Fisch Wiki: Rods. Gamezebo describes it as limited to Fischmas 2025: Gamezebo’s Maelstrom Rod guide. No official return announcement is established by these sources. Treat access as uncertain until you can confirm the event and quest interactions in your current game.
What you need before entering the Cryoshock route
- Complete Santa’s Northstar Village questline, including the follow-up requiring a Northstar Whale. The guide says Santa rewards Santa’s Miracle Rod and the Everfrost Key: Fisch Wiki: Maelstrom Rod.
- Collect Essence of Winter and Essence of Starfrost.
- Obtain a Festive Relic and apply it to a Fischmas rod so it has a qualifying festive mutation.
- Be ready to trigger Frost Moon for the lever sequence and Essence of Starfrost fishing.
- Have 3,250,000 C$ available for the reported final purchase price, if the rod is obtainable in your game.
Complete the unlock route
1. Finish Santa’s quests
Work through Santa’s full Northstar Village questline. The route guide says the rewards include Santa’s Miracle Rod and the Everfrost Key, and that a Northstar Whale is required in the follow-up quest. Keep the key for the locked chamber door.
2. Fish for both essences
Essence of Winter is reported to come from fishing at Northstar Village, with roughly 1-in-1,000 odds. Essence of Starfrost is reported at roughly 1-in-150 while fishing during Frost Moon. These are Gamezebo guide figures, not independently confirmed official drop rates; the page does not state a publication date: Gamezebo’s Maelstrom Rod guide.

Reported Maelstrom Rod stats and effects
The Fisch Wiki reports these rod stats and mechanics; they are guide/wiki-reported game data rather than official documentation: Fisch Wiki: Maelstrom Rod.
| Attribute | Reported value |
|---|---|
| Lure speed | 80% |
| Luck | 85% |
| Control | 0.15 |
| Resilience | 35% |
| Maximum weight | Infinite |
| Frostbitten mutation | 30% chance; 9× multiplier |
| Progress-speed penalty | 10% |
The same wiki describes a charge mechanic that can add progress and sometimes freeze a fish. Another guide gives more specific figures for releasing the meter above 80%: a 15% progress increase and a 25% chance to freeze the fish for 2–4 seconds. These descriptions do not align exactly, so treat the trigger and effect figures as guide claims rather than guaranteed outcomes.
