The official sources confirm that Mafia III is sold as a Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S. They do not confirm a PS5 listing for Mafia III, and they do not establish what a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch trailer shows. This guide separates the confirmed platform and edition facts from the parts of the title that remain unverified.
What the title refers to
Mafia III is the 2016 action game from Hangar 13 published by 2K. It is set in 1968 New Bordeaux, a reimagined version of New Orleans. Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam veteran, returns home, and after the Italian Mafia kills his surrogate family, he seeks revenge and builds a criminal family of his own.

In 2K’s launch announcement of April 19, 2016, studio head and creative director Haden Blackman described the setting this way: “New Bordeaux in 1968 provides a unique and powerful backdrop for our hard-boiled story of crime, betrayal, loyalty and revenge.” The original release date announced in that post was October 7, 2016, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
Platform availability by source
The current Mafia III listings come from the platform stores, not from a 2K announcement, so each row below carries its own source and date.

The Xbox listing’s 60 FPS wording is the store’s own description. It is not an independent performance test, and it does not tell you how the game runs in every mode.
What the Definitive Edition includes
According to the PlayStation Store listing for PS4, the Mafia III: Definitive Edition bundles the base game with the following content:

The Xbox Store describes its Series X|S bundle in similar terms, listing the base game, story DLC and bonus packs. The store pages do not give a full item-by-item comparison between the two platforms, so confirm the exact contents on the page for your platform before buying.
Do not confuse it with Mafia: Definitive Edition
A 2K support article updated October 8, 2026 describes a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release for Mafia: Definitive Edition. That is a different game: a 2020 remake about Tommy Angelo, not Lincoln Clay. Its PS5 and Series upgrade terms do not apply to Mafia III. Many search results for “Mafia 3” and “Mafia Definitive Edition” mix the two titles, so check the character name and the game’s setting before you act on any upgrade claim.

The PS5 and trailer question
The title describes an official PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch trailer for Mafia III. The sources reviewed do not include an official page for that trailer, and they do not show a PS5 product listing for Mafia III. Until a PS5 listing and the trailer itself are confirmed on official channels, treat the PS5 part of the title as unconfirmed.
To check the claim yourself, work through these steps:

Get it right and you might survive. Get it wrong, and you're in danger because every night the Mafia secretly meet and choose a civilian to kill...
- BLUFF, DECEIVE & OUTSMART YOUR FRIENDS: Every player has a secret role and no one knows who to trust. Read your friends, defend yourself, form alliances, and use clever deception and deduction to lead your team to victory.

- Open the PlayStation Store product page for Mafia III: Definitive Edition and look for a PS5 entry in its platform or compatibility information.
- Open the Xbox Store page for Mafia III: Definitive Edition and confirm the Series X|S listing and its stated bundle.
- Search 2K’s official channels for the trailer, and check its upload date and platform labels against the store listings above.
- If a PS5 listing appears, compare its contents and any upgrade terms with the PS4 and Series X|S pages, since the sources reviewed do not establish that every platform carries the same edition or upgrade terms.
Trailer scenes, running time, soundtrack and publication date cannot be described here, because none of the sources reviewed confirm them.
