Reports dated October 7, 2026 say ESRB listings for Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition include PS5 and Xbox Series. That claim has not been independently confirmed here: the accessible ESRB records still show older platforms, and 2K has not announced current-generation releases or upgrades for either game.
What the reported ratings do—and don’t—confirm
A Reddit post links ESRB record numbers 41424 and 41389 as evidence of new ratings for Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition. The post is a report, not an official announcement, and the linked records could not be checked directly. The October 7, 2026 post therefore supports saying that PS5 and Xbox Series ratings have been reported—not that they are verified or that releases are confirmed.

Don’t confuse these games with the first Mafia
2K has confirmed a separate current-generation release for Mafia: Definitive Edition, the first game. Its support article says it arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 14, 2026, with 60 FPS and technical improvements. That confirmation applies to the first game only; it is not evidence that Mafia II or Mafia III have the same release, frame rate, or upgrade offer. See 2K’s support article and the PlayStation listing for Mafia: Definitive Edition.

How you can play Mafia II and III on current consoles
Play the PS4 version of Mafia II on PS5
PlayStation lists Mafia II: Definitive Edition as a PS4 game that can be played on PS5, with possible feature caveats. This is backward compatibility, not a native PS5 edition. Check the PlayStation product page for its current platform and compatibility details.
Consider the original Trilogy platform release
Take-Two’s May 13, 2020 announcement said Mafia: Trilogy includes Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition, and announced the collection for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It does not establish a PS5 or Xbox Series native edition for either included game. The announcement is available from Take-Two Interactive.

- UK PSN account may be required for any online features
For Xbox Series play, the material available here does not establish a current-generation release or a specific compatibility route for these editions. Check the relevant Xbox store and compatibility information for your console and copy before buying. For both games, treat any claim of a free upgrade, native current-generation version, or new technical features as unconfirmed until 2K or the platform holder publishes terms.
