What the update changes
The headline change is frame rate. The Xbox Store describes the Series X|S edition as a 60 FPS game with technical improvements, and the reproduced patch notes state that Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S supports 60 FPS gameplay. The notes also list a set of bug fixes, visual changes and interface corrections that go beyond frame rate.
Real-time cinematics versus pre-rendered movies
Not every cutscene runs at the higher rate. According to the patch notes, real-time cinematics run at 60 FPS, while some cinematics are pre-rendered movies that will play at 30 FPS. In the notes’ own wording: “Some cinematics, however, are pre-rendered movies that will play at 30 FPS.” Expect a frame-rate change between gameplay and some story sequences, not a uniform 60 FPS throughout.

Who can get the Series X|S version
The update is available to digital owners. Pure Xbox’s report does not promise the same access to every physical disc owner, and the Store listing does not change that picture.
Digital owners
If you bought the game digitally, the Series X|S edition should be reachable from your Xbox dashboard using the search steps below. The report notes that some eligible digital owners may need to search for it manually.

Physical disc owners and Xbox Disc to Digital
The report mentions Xbox Disc to Digital, the route where inserting a disc can claim a digital license. It says that claiming this license may qualify an owner for the new version, but only “at least in theory.” Pure Xbox presents this as a report-level caveat rather than an official guarantee. Do not assume that a disc in your Xbox One collection automatically unlocks the Series X|S edition.

How to find the Series X|S listing
If the Series X|S edition is not immediately visible, Pure Xbox suggests searching the Store manually. The report describes this fallback route, which it notes may not be necessary for everyone:

- Press Y on the Xbox dashboard to open search.
- Search for “Mafia iii”.
- Choose “Mafia iii Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S” from the results.
- Open “Show in Store.”
- Select the Series X|S edition and install it if you are eligible.
If the listing still does not appear after you complete these steps, the reporting does not describe a further recovery procedure. Check whether the game is already in your library, and confirm the edition on the Store page before you buy or install anything.

The Xbox Store identifies the product as Mafia III: Definitive Edition, published by 2K and developed by Hangar 13. The description says it bundles the main game, the story DLC Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times, plus bonus packs. The story is set in New Bordeaux in 1968.
