That is a result from Don Torrisi’s villa, not a whole-game average or a guarantee that every area will run below 60 FPS.
What the RTX 5080 test actually found
DSOGaming published the result on August 8, 2025, testing in Don Torrisi’s villa, which the reviewer described as one of the most demanding early-game areas. At native 1080p and Epic settings, the RTX 5080 averaged 55 FPS and reached a 44 FPS minimum. The figures answer the narrow question—whether the card stayed above 60 FPS in that particular test—and the answer is no. DSOGaming’s original test reports the measurements.
This was an author-run scene benchmark, not a repeatable built-in benchmark: John Papadopoulos noted that the game has no built-in benchmark tool. The test system used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32 GB of DDR5-6000 memory, Windows 10 64-bit, and GeForce driver 580.88. Because the route was a selected stress-test location, the numbers should not be read as the game’s average performance across missions, cutscenes, or later areas.
Why “maxed out” needs context
Epic is a higher fidelity target than the game’s official recommended preset. Steam lists the recommended configuration as an RTX 3080 Ti or Radeon RX 6950 XT, 32 GB of RAM, and an SSD for High at 1440p; its minimum configuration targets Medium at 1080p with an RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 5700 XT, 16 GB of RAM, and an SSD. These are Valve’s listed targets, not guarantees of a particular frame rate on every system. Steam’s PC requirements provide that comparison.

- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
A later DSOGaming analysis used the same Ryzen 9 7950X3D and memory configuration, Windows 10 64-bit, GeForce 580.88, and Radeon Adrenalin 25.8.1. Among the GPUs tested, only the RTX 4090 exceeded 60 FPS at 1080p Epic. The publication also found a meaningful performance increase moving from Epic to High under some tested conditions. This supports the view that Epic is unusually demanding, but it does not supply a whole-game result for the RTX 5080. The later PC performance analysis explains its broader GPU testing.
How to get smoother performance
Try High before lowering resolution
DSOGaming reported that its RTX 5080 ran well over 60 FPS at native 1440p on High in the initial test, while noting that the villa was a stress test and other areas would perform better. That is a review finding on its test build and setup, not a promise for every PC or current patch. If you want a straightforward first adjustment, switching from Epic to High is the most directly supported option in the cited tests.

Understand what “native” means here
ComputerBase describes Mafia: The Old Country as using Unreal Engine 5.4 and supporting temporal upscaling options including DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and Unreal TSR. Its technical review notes that the game always uses an upsampling algorithm, even when the display output is set to native resolution. In practical terms, “native 1080p” describes the output resolution, not necessarily a completely unprocessed rendering path. ComputerBase also reported differences in vegetation stability between upscalers in its tests; that observation applies to its tested version and settings, rather than establishing a universal ranking. ComputerBase’s technical review has the details.
Upscaling and frame generation are separate choices
NVIDIA lists DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex among the game’s supported features. Support does not establish that each option gives the same image quality or responsiveness in a particular scene. Super Resolution renders below the output resolution and reconstructs the image; frame generation inserts generated frames and should not be confused with the game’s underlying rendered frame rate. Choose based on whether you prioritize image detail, displayed smoothness, or responsiveness, and judge the result in the scenes you play. NVIDIA’s feature announcement lists the supported technologies.

How far the headline can be taken
The evidence establishes that the RTX 5080 did not reach 60 FPS in DSOGaming’s native 1080p Epic villa test in August 2025. It does not establish that the GPU cannot reach 60 FPS elsewhere in the game, that its average across a full playthrough is 55 FPS, or that the same result holds on later game patches and drivers. The cited reviews are historical measurements, and performance may vary with scene, system, settings, and software version.
