A Bundle is a separate at-home product that typically emphasizes more boosters, basic lands, and storage or play accessories. If you’re going to the event, the Prerelease Pack is the relevant product; if you want more to open and keep, compare the Bundle for that same set.
What is the difference between a Prerelease Pack and a Bundle?
The main difference is purpose. Wizards of the Coast calls the event product a Prerelease Pack; “kit” is common player shorthand for it. Players register for a Prerelease and receive the pack used to build a Sealed deck. A Bundle is a distinct retail product for opening boosters and adding cards and accessories to a collection.
Contents vary by set, so the products are best compared within the same set rather than by treating one year’s contents as a permanent formula.
What comes in each product?
These official examples show the differences, but do not guarantee the contents of another set’s products.

Which should you choose?
Choose a Prerelease Pack if you’re playing the event
Registering for a Prerelease is how you get the pack intended for that event. You open it and build a 40-card Sealed deck, adding basic lands. Wizards says the store supplies the basic lands needed for play, so you do not need to buy a Bundle just to bring lands.

Choose a Bundle if you want more to open at home
A Bundle can be a better fit if your priority is boosters, basic lands, and the particular storage or life-counter items included in that set’s version. In the 2024 Foundations example, the Bundle has 9 Play Boosters versus 6 in its Prerelease Pack, plus 40 basic lands in total. That comparison applies to Foundations, not automatically to every set.
Check the exact set’s product listing
Promo details and extras can change. For example, the 2024 Foundations Prerelease Pack listing includes a year-stamped promo and an Arena code in select regions; the 2026 Lorwyn Eclipsed guide says its Prerelease promos are no longer year stamped. Confirm the official product guide and the exact retailer listing before buying, especially if a particular promo or accessory matters to you.

Can you use a Bundle for a Prerelease?
A Bundle is not the event’s Prerelease Pack. The event pack is the product provided through registration and is designed for the Sealed format. You can open a Bundle at home, but buying one does not replace registering for the event or guarantee entry. If you want to play, check the local store’s schedule and registration details.
What to expect at a Prerelease
Wizards describes Prereleases as local game store events held before a set’s full release. Most run four to five hours, including deckbuilding, pairings, and breaks, according to its Prerelease FAQ (accessed October 7, 2026). Schedules and event arrangements vary by store.
