Magic: The Gathering — Edge of Eternities is a space-fantasy set built around the Sothera system, a remote setting in Magic’s own fiction. It launched on MTG Arena on July 29, 2025, followed by its worldwide tabletop release on August 1, 2025. Its spacecraft, alien factions and four headline mechanics give the game a space-opera frame without making it a crossover with a named science-fiction franchise.
What is Edge of Eternities?
Edge of Eternities is a Magic set set in the Sothera system, which Wizards of the Coast describes as outside the Multiverse and bordering the Blind Eternities. The story begins with a scrapper crew and a dangerous relic that could offer a way out of debt; interstellar factions also want the artifact. The conflict gives the set a science-fiction setting while remaining part of Magic’s own fictional world. Wizards’ set and collecting overview introduces the setting and products.
Is Edge of Eternities a space set or a crossover?
It is a space-opera-inspired Magic set, not an adaptation of a named external franchise. Design lead Ethan Fleischer says the team drew on genre conventions such as travel between planets, enormous spacecraft, unusual aliens, astronomical phenomena and powerful technology, while avoiding allusions to popular space-opera media. In his July 10, 2025 design commentary, Fleischer put the approach this way: “So, we made a rule for ourselves: no allusions to popular space opera media.”
The setting also uses its position at the edge of Magic’s cosmology to explore the Blind Eternities without defining them. Mark Rosewater described the idea in his Vision Design Handoff: “The Sothera system borders the Blind Eternities, letting us explore the Blind Eternities without defining it.”

How do Edge of Eternities’ mechanics work?
The set’s four headline mechanics are Station, Lander, Warp and Void. They support themes of powering up spacecraft and planets, finding lands, casting cards temporarily, and responding to things leaving the battlefield. These are high-level descriptions; individual card text and Wizards’ release notes govern precise timing and interactions.
Station
Some spacecraft and planets have Station. Their controller taps a creature to put charge counters on the Station permanent, with the number based on that creature’s power. What those counters do depends on the specific card, so check its text for the payoff.

Lander
A Lander is an artifact token that can be sacrificed for two generic mana to find a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. It turns a token into a way to develop a mana base, but the land enters tapped rather than ready to use immediately.
Warp
A card with Warp can be cast from its owner’s hand for its Warp cost. If cast this way, it is exiled from the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step; its rules then allow it to be cast from exile on a future turn. The card’s own text and the release notes specify the applicable timing and conditions.

Void
Void is not one uniform effect. The ability varies by card, but Wizards describes Void abilities as caring about permanents leaving the battlefield or being warped during that player’s turn. Read each card separately to see what event it checks and what happens when that condition is met.

Original announced MSRPs were $5.49 for a Play Booster, $24.99 for a Collector Booster, $44.99 for a Commander Deck and $53.99 for a Bundle, according to Wizards’ July 8, 2025 collecting guide. Those are launch-era stated MSRPs, not current market prices, and they do not establish resale value.
What should players know about legality and card versions?
Wizards’ July 2025 release documents describe launch-period legality. They distinguish cards with EOE, EOC, EOS and SPG set codes, and the collecting guide describes the cards’ legality at that time. Those documents do not establish October 2026 legality, current bans or the status of a particular card in a particular format. Check Wizards’ current format legality and banned-list information before relying on a present-tense legality claim.
For collecting, the Singularity Foil Sothera, the Supervoid is a treatment distinction, not a different rules version: Wizards says it is mechanically identical to other versions and exclusive to Collector Boosters. A special treatment or a launch-era MSRP alone does not establish what a card is worth now.
