“The program can’t start because maguiinter.dll is missing”

maguiinter.dll is a real third-party DLL associated with ArcSoft software, not a Windows system file. When maguiinter.dll is missing, the safest fix is to identify the ArcSoft or OEM application that installed it and repair or reinstall that application from its original installer.
Common variants include:
The program can't start because MagUIInter.dll is missing from your computer.
This application failed to start because MagUIInter.dll was not found.
Error loading MagUIInter.dll. The specified module could not be found.
A required component is missing: MagUIInter.dll. Please install the application again.
“The specified module could not be found” can mean that MagUIInter.dll itself is absent, or that a dependency required by the DLL cannot load.
Which fix applies to you
Use this order:
- The error names ArcSoft, PhotoStudio, PhotoStudio Darkroom, WebCam Message Board, Dell PhotoStage, or camera software: repair or reinstall that parent application.
- The problem started after antivirus activity: check Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- The error appeared after uninstalling another ArcSoft program: reinstall the remaining ArcSoft or OEM software because shared components may have been removed.
- The application is installed but will not start: use the matching installer, then investigate dependencies and architecture.
- The error began after a Windows, driver, cleanup, or uninstall change: consider System Restore.
- Several Windows programs also fail: run DISM and SFC as secondary checks.
- You no longer use the application: remove the obsolete program or its startup entry instead of downloading the DLL.
- You found a standalone DLL download: do not use it unless you can verify its provenance, version, architecture, and compatibility.
What is maguiinter.dll?
MagUIInter.dll is commonly identified as ArcSoft MagUIInter, a component used by older ArcSoft imaging and multimedia applications. Public installed-file inventories associate it with:
- ArcSoft PhotoStudio
- ArcSoft PhotoStudio 6
- ArcSoft PhotoStudio Darkroom
- ArcSoft WebCam Message Board
- Dell PhotoStage
- Other ArcSoft software bundled with cameras, webcams, scanners, printers, or laptops
The filename alone cannot identify the exact parent application. The original installer may have come from an OEM device rather than directly from ArcSoft.

The file is commonly found in:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesArcSoftBin
A 32-bit ArcSoft application may instead be installed under:
C:Program Files (x86)
A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit ArcSoft application. That does not mean the DLL belongs in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent ArcSoft application
This is the most likely solution because the DLL ships with the application that needs it.
Find the application
- Read the full error window and note the program name.
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Target field and Start in folder.
- Look for
ArcSoft,PhotoStudio,PhotoStage,WebCam Message Board, or the name of a camera or computer manufacturer. - Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps on Windows 11. On Windows 10, select Apps > Apps & features.
- Search for ArcSoft and the relevant OEM software.
If the application appears in the list, select its menu button and choose Advanced options. Select Repair if Windows provides that option, then restart the application.

If the program uses an older installer:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the ArcSoft or OEM application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows.
A successful repair should restore the DLL and allow the original program to open. If the same message remains, uninstall and reinstall the complete application using its original CD, camera bundle, recovery media, or a verified installer supplied by the device manufacturer.
Do not reinstall only MagUIInter.dll. ArcSoft programs may also need matching files such as MagCore, MagUIEngine, MagUIImage, or MagUICommon.
Fix 2: Reinstall the matching application
If repair is unavailable or fails, reinstall the parent program.

- Save any projects or settings associated with the application.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the ArcSoft or OEM application.
- Restart the computer.
- If the program was supplied with a device, locate the original device software disc or recovery package.
- Install the same application and, where available, its updates.
- Start the application from its original shortcut.
For an older InstallShield program, use Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features instead of relying only on modern Settings.

Do not assume that a current ArcSoft product installer contains a legacy DLL. ArcSoft’s current product range does not provide a clearly identifiable standalone MagUIInter.dll package.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine an old DLL, especially if the application has not been updated for many years.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries related to the ArcSoft application or
MagUIInter.dll. - Expand an entry and record the original file path and detection name.
Only consider restoring the file if it was located inside the expected ArcSoft installation directory and you can verify that the application and installer are legitimate. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can expose the computer if the detection is genuine.
The safer approach is to reinstall the complete application from trusted original media. If the file repeatedly disappears after reinstalling, run a full malware scan and investigate the antivirus detection instead of repeatedly copying the DLL back.
Fix 4: Match the application architecture and files
Historical catalogs list multiple builds of this DLL, and they should not be treated as interchangeable. An older 32-bit ArcSoft application needs the matching 32-bit build and compatible companion files.
Check the application architecture:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the application and review its installation details if available.
- Open the program’s installation folder.
- Right-click its main
.exefile and select Properties. - Check the Details and Compatibility tabs for clues.
Do not choose a replacement solely because the filename matches. A wrong build can produce messages such as:

This application was unable to start correctly.
A “not designed to run on Windows” message usually indicates a corrupt, incompatible, or wrong-architecture binary. It is not normally fixed by registering the DLL.
Fix 5: Investigate missing dependencies
If MagUIInter.dll is present but Windows reports that the specified module could not be found, another dependency may be missing.

First reinstall the complete parent application. That restores the expected companion files and application-specific runtime components.
Do not install Visual C++ redistributables as a first response. Microsoft’s packages, including VC_redist.x86.exe and VC_redist.x64.exe, provide Microsoft C and C++ runtime libraries; they do not provide ArcSoft’s MagUIInter.dll. Install a runtime only when the error specifically identifies a missing Microsoft runtime DLL or the application’s documentation requires it.
The same caution applies to DirectX and .NET. They may be needed by the wider ArcSoft application, but there is no evidence that installing them alone restores this file.
Fix 6: Do not copy the DLL or run regsvr32
Do not copy MagUIInter.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Copying the file there can create version conflicts and will not repair the parent application.
Do not run:
regsvr32 MagUIInter.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM components. There is no reliable evidence that MagUIInter.dll is a self-registering COM DLL, so registration is not a normal repair step.

Restore the file through the matching ArcSoft installer and let that installer place it in the correct application directory.
Fix 7: Check Windows components with DISM and SFC
MagUIInter.dll is not known to be a protected Windows component. DISM and SFC are therefore secondary checks, not the primary fix.
Use them when other Windows programs also report missing or corrupted system files:
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the ArcSoft application.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected system files. They will not normally recreate an application DLL that was removed from an ArcSoft folder.

If ArcSoft software came with a webcam, scanner, camera, printer, or laptop, its installer may be tied to the device package. A device driver update alone will not usually restore MagUIInter.dll, but reinstalling the complete OEM software package may.
To check the device:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Cameras, Imaging devices, Sound, video and game controllers, or Printers.
- Right-click the related device and select Properties.
- Review the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update driver only with a driver supplied by Windows Update or the device manufacturer.
- If the device software was removed, uninstall the related OEM application, restart, and reinstall the complete package from original media.
Avoid deleting a working device driver merely because the ArcSoft program reports a missing DLL.

Fix 9: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help if the error began immediately after an uninstall, cleanup tool, driver change, or update and a suitable restore point exists.

- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore is not guaranteed to recover an application file. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the original application installer.
What to do if ArcSoft is obsolete
If you no longer use the program that requested MagUIInter.dll, remove the complete obsolete application:

FAQ
Is maguiinter.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with ArcSoft software and is not a standard Windows, DirectX, or Visual C++ runtime file.
Should I download maguiinter.dll from a DLL website?
No. A random download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, or a mismatched historical build. It can also leave the parent application damaged.
Should I put it in System32?
No. Restore it through the original ArcSoft or OEM installer.

ArcSoft applications may share components. Removing one program can remove files still needed by another.
What if the DLL exists but the error remains?
Reinstall the complete parent application. The message may identify a missing dependency rather than the DLL itself.

The name alone does not prove authenticity. Check its location, installer provenance, digital signature where present, and antivirus results together.
