The 2024 MAINGEAR MG-1 Silver launched at a $1,199 MSRP with an Intel Core i5-14400F, GeForce RTX 4060, 16GB of DDR4-3600 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. That combination makes it principally a 1080p gaming desktop, not a reliable 4K machine. The price, availability and exact configuration of that 2024 Silver SKU are not established as current, so treat $1,199 as a historical launch price rather than a present-day deal.
What the 2024 MG-1 Silver included
MAINGEAR announced its refreshed preconfigured MG-1 range on January 31, 2024. Silver was the entry tier in a lineup extending from RTX 4060 systems to RTX 4090 systems. The announced Silver specification was:
| Component | 2024 announced Silver specification |
|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i5-14400F |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 |
| Motherboard | MSI PRO B660M-A CEC WIFI |
| CPU cooler | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black |
| Memory | 16GB DDR4-3600 |
| Storage | 1TB Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD |
| Power supply | 650W |
| Operating system | Windows 11 Home |
| Announced MSRP | $1,199 (January 2024) |
MAINGEAR said its builders assembled the systems in Warren, New Jersey. The announcement also described “Boosted” variants with twice the memory and SSD capacity of their corresponding standard models.
How much does the MAINGEAR MG-1 Silver cost?
The documented launch MSRP was $1,199. That figure applies to MAINGEAR’s January 31, 2024 announcement and is not proof of a current price. Contemporary reviews reported different prices because they covered different configurations and editions: PCGamesN reviewed a $1,249 system, while Tom’s Hardware listed its regular Silver review unit at $1,149 and its Silver Shroud Edition at $1,249. Current MAINGEAR pages do not establish that the 2024 Silver SKU is still sold or what it costs now.

Is the MG-1 Silver good for 1080p gaming?
Yes, the RTX 4060 MG-1 Silver is best understood as a 1080p gaming PC. Review results show the level of performance to expect from this class of configuration, although they are not guarantees for every game or for the exact 1TB/i5-14400F specification:
| Game and review | 1080p result | 4K result | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Tom’s Hardware | 104 fps | 30 fps | Silver Shroud Edition review unit; test-suite and settings specific |
| Far Cry 6, Tom’s Hardware | 91 fps | 38 fps | Silver Shroud Edition review unit; test-suite and settings specific |
| Starfield, WIRED | About 30 fps at 1080p Ultra | Not stated | Slowdowns were reported in crowded areas |
Those results support high-refresh 1080p play in many games, with settings adjustments likely in especially demanding releases. They also show why buying this system specifically for 4K gaming would be a poor fit: the reviewed games fell to roughly 30–38 fps at 4K.

Why review specifications do not all match
Do not assume every “MG-1 Silver” listing has the announced components. PCGamesN and Tom’s Hardware both described review machines with an Intel Core i5-13400F and a 512GB SSD, rather than the announced i5-14400F and 1TB drive. Their prices and benchmark results therefore describe those particular units, not a universal Silver specification.
Before purchasing a remaining listing or used system, verify the exact CPU, SSD capacity, motherboard, memory configuration and warranty in writing. A model name alone is not enough to identify the hardware.

Storage, expansion and case design
SSD capacity
The announced 1TB drive is substantially more practical than the 512GB drive found in some reviews, but modern PC games can still consume much of it. The review units were criticized for limited capacity, and reviewers identified M.2 expansion as a possible remedy. Confirm the installed motherboard and available connector before ordering a replacement or second drive.
Interior and front panel
WIRED praised the spacious interior and magnetic customizable front panel. PCGamesN likewise highlighted the customizable RGB front panel and build quality. WIRED considered the chassis large, and noted that drive-mount options depended on the initial configuration, so check the specific layout if you plan to add multiple drives.

Cooling, power and support
The announced Silver used a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black and a 650W power supply, a sensible pairing for an RTX 4060 system. MAINGEAR’s 2024 announcement stated a one-year standard warranty, an option to upgrade to three years, and lifetime technical-support access. Those were announcement terms; confirm the current policy, coverage and upgrade cost before relying on them.
Who should buy it?
- Good match: players targeting 1080p, buyers who value a prebuilt with a configurable appearance, and users who want a straightforward Windows 11 desktop.
- Check carefully: anyone expecting the announced 1TB/i5-14400F specification, because reviewed Silver systems differed.
- Look elsewhere: buyers prioritizing dependable 4K performance, very large game libraries without storage upgrades, or a compact chassis.
Bottom line
The 2024 MG-1 Silver was a credible entry-level MAINGEAR desktop: its announced RTX 4060 and Core i5-14400F pairing targets 1080p gaming, while the spacious case and configurable front panel add flexibility. The $1,199 MSRP is historical, not a confirmed current bargain. Because review units varied materially and current availability is unresolved, compare the exact listing’s components, total price, storage expansion options and warranty before buying.
