Marathon Mouse Aim Assist: What Bungie Changed—and What Players Disagree About

Bungie’s 2025 closed-alpha notes removed PC mouse magnetism and aim adhesion, but later discussions mix that change with controller-assist complaints and an unverified input-switch report.

Bungie’s April 2025 closed-alpha notes say it removed mouse magnetism and aim adhesion on PC and disabled the toggle for those features. That historical change does not establish how aim assistance works in Marathon’s October 2026 build. The continuing debate mixes it up with controller aim assist and an unverified report of assistance seeming to persist after a player switched inputs.

What Bungie officially changed for mouse input

In Marathon Closed Alpha Update 0.5.0.2, dated April 30, 2025, Bungie’s Marathon Dev Team stated: “Removed mouse magnetism and aim adhesion on PC and disabled the setting to toggle it on and off.” The notes said the changes had previously been made through server settings and were then added to the client.

This is evidence about a specific closed-alpha update, not confirmation of the live game’s settings in October 2026. The available official statements do not establish whether a later update changed mouse or controller aim assistance.

Why players are still asking about aim assist

Controller assistance is a separate question

Some complaints concern controller aim assist on PC, not mouse magnetism. On April 2, 2026, Bungie Support replied to a player who felt aim assist had changed after a patch: “We don’t believe any functionality of aim assist was changed with this week’s patch, and therefore recommend checking potential settings changes on both your controller and PC.” Support also invited the player to provide before-and-after footage if they suspected a change. This was Bungie Support’s position about that week’s patch, not a statement about every subsequent update. See the Marathon Help thread, “Controller PC Aim Assist”.

A reported input-switching effect was not verified

In a separate April 7, 2026 help-forum post, a player said that after signing in with a controller connected and switching back to mouse and keyboard, the mouse felt “like a controller joystick with increased aim assist.” Bungie Support asked for video evidence; the player said they did not have a capture. The thread documents a perception, not a confirmed bug, exploit, widespread issue, or intended feature. Read the input-switching report.

What community posts can—and cannot—show

Players disagree about how strong and consistent controller assistance feels. A Reddit post presents a controller aim-assist demonstration, while commenters dispute its consistency and whether it provides an overall advantage. Those reactions establish that experiences differ; they are not a representative survey or a controlled comparison of mouse and controller performance. Another Reddit discussion interprets a weapon statistic as related to aim magnetism and range. That is community analysis, not an official explanation or independently verified mechanic. Read the discussion of aim-assist and range stats.

Keep mouse magnetism, controller aim assist, and settings advice distinct

“Mouse aim assist” can refer to different things in these discussions. Bungie’s 2025 alpha note specifically names mouse magnetism and aim adhesion on PC. Other players are asking about controller assistance, including when a controller is used on PC. A report that a mouse felt assisted after an input switch is a third, unverified claim. Treating these as the same setting—or using one player’s impression to settle input fairness—overstates what the evidence shows.

PlayStation’s April 28, 2026 article shares Bungie-team recommendations for configuring the DualSense Edge, including aim curves, sensitivity, and stick deadzones. These are controller setup recommendations, not evidence of a mouse-assistance toggle or a later change to mouse behavior. See the DualSense Edge recommendations.

How to interpret a suspected change

  • Identify the input used when the behavior occurred: mouse and keyboard, controller on PC, or a session where the player switched between them.
  • Check the settings for both controller and PC, as Bungie Support recommended in its April 2, 2026 reply.
  • Compare the same scenario before and after a patch, and capture footage if possible. Bungie Support specifically invited comparative footage for a suspected patch change.
  • Check current official patch notes before treating the 2025 alpha change as a description of the current build.

Without current official notes or reproducible evidence, a report that aim assist feels different cannot identify whether a game update, a setting, an input switch, or another factor caused the impression.
