That breadth can make the price feel justified if you want a game to return to across different kinds of play. It is not an objective value verdict, and the number is Nintendo’s announced U.S. regular price—not a guarantee of what every retailer charges today.
What does “big” mean in Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World is a Nintendo Switch 2 game built around courses linked by roads. Instead of treating every race as an isolated track with a hard boundary, the game lets races travel along connecting paths. Nintendo also describes a range of settings, changing weather, and a day-and-night cycle across the world. Those details make scale relevant to how the game is played, not just how much map it appears to contain.
Nintendo’s official game-world overview lays out that connected-world premise. It supports a case for a different kind of Mario Kart experience, but it does not by itself establish how many hours a player will get or whether the world will feel engaging to every player.
How much variety is there beyond a standard race?
Nintendo lists six ways to play: Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, Battle, VS Race, Time Trials, and Free Roam. Free Roam is the clearest expansion beyond the usual race-and-repeat loop: Nintendo’s June 5, 2025 launch announcement says it includes hundreds of single-player missions.

#1 Best Overall
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
- Ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and more as you race for the finish line
- Take on the adrenaline-packed Knockout Tour—a fierce 24-driver elimination mode
- Explore courses at your own pace and wander the world to discover fun surprises in Free Roam
- Grand Prix: the traditional competition across a set of races.
- Knockout Tour: a distinct race mode included in Nintendo’s list of modes.
- Battle: a separate competitive format rather than a standard course race.
- VS Race: a race mode for choosing and competing on courses.
- Time Trials: a mode for chasing faster times.
- Free Roam: open-ended exploration with hundreds of single-player missions, according to Nintendo’s launch announcement.
The range matters most if you expect to switch between competition, solo challenges, and exploring rather than treating the game as a one-mode purchase. Nintendo’s descriptions establish the available modes and mission count; they do not provide an independent measure of how varied or replayable those activities feel in practice.
What do you get for the $80 price?
Nintendo announced a $79.99 U.S. regular price for Mario Kart World when it said the game was available on June 5, 2025. That is the clearest basis for the rounded “$80” in the title. It is a dated U.S. price announcement, not a promise that the game currently costs that amount at every retailer or in every region. See Nintendo’s June 5, 2025 launch announcement and official physical-game store page for the product and price context.

- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world

- Ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and more as you race for the finish line
- Take on the adrenaline-packed Knockout Tour—a fierce 24-driver elimination mode
The value argument is about breadth: connected courses, multiple race and battle modes, Time Trials, and Free Roam with hundreds of missions. That is a substantial menu for one game, especially for someone who enjoys both competitive races and solo play. But there is no objective measure here that turns those features into a guaranteed number of hours, and a large world is not automatically valuable if you mainly want one familiar racing mode.
How does multiplayer affect the value?
Nintendo’s April 17, 2025 Direct announcement says specified race modes support up to 24 drivers. That figure applies to those race modes; it should not be read as a promise that every mode or play setup supports 24 players. Nintendo’s launch announcement separately describes local split-screen play for up to four players on one system. These are useful distinctions if you are buying the game for a household or a larger online group.

Online features require an internet connection, a Nintendo Account, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, according to Nintendo’s product information. Local split-screen is a different option, but the four-player figure refers to one system and does not remove the stated requirements for online features.
What else do you need, and what is optional?
The game is for Nintendo Switch 2; it is not a Nintendo Switch game. Nintendo says CameraPlay requires a separately sold compatible USB-C camera. A camera is optional, so it is not a prerequisite to playing the game. The physical product listing is for Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2.

- Ferocious Competition - At the heart of Puyo Puyo Tetris is the fighting spirit of players competing against each other to be most clever, cunning, and quick-witted one to set up devastating attacks on opponents. It's the classic easy-to-learn puzzles mashed up into a multiplayer battle like no other!
- Adventure Mode - The game also has a single player mode with ten unique acts, eatch with ten stages. They feature different characters from the Puyo Puyo or Tetris universes and have unique challenges to learn and master game mechanics that players must overcome!
- Arcade Modes - Online play has Puzzle League, which tracks players' ratings, players can save replays to upload and share, and more.
- There's also an in-game shop players can use their points to unlock different Puyo and Tetrimino skins, background music, stages, and more.
That distinction keeps the $79.99 U.S. regular price in perspective: it is the announced price for the game, not a bundle price that includes every accessory or an online membership.

The strongest case is for a Switch 2 owner who wants a Mario Kart game with several different activities: structured races, a battle mode, time chasing, local multiplayer, online racing, and solo exploration. A player who values those options can reasonably see the connected world and mission-filled Free Roam as more than cosmetic scale.
Best Value
- Race through an interconnected world of courses spanning mountains, forests, and cities with dynamic weather patterns and day/night cycles.
- Experience intense 24-driver elimination races in Knockout Tour mode, where racers compete checkpoint by checkpoint until one champion remains.
- Master new racing techniques including rail riding, wall jumping, and water skimming to find the fastest route to victory.
- Explore the vast world at your own pace in Free Roam mode, discovering hidden surprises and alternate paths.
- Enhance your racing experience with magnetic Joy-Con 2 Wheel accessories, providing secure and realistic steering control.
The case is weaker if you mainly want a single, straightforward racing mode, do not care about exploration or missions, or are not planning to use multiplayer. Nintendo’s feature list shows breadth; it cannot tell you which of those features will matter to you. The $80 question comes down to whether you will use the breadth, not whether the game is literally larger than earlier entries.
