Mario Tennis Fever is at its best when people are trading unpredictable rallies together. Its Fever Rackets, colorful cast and mix of match types give multiplayer plenty of arcade energy, but reviews identify Adventure mode and solo staying power as the main weak spots. It is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, released February 12, 2026, so the key question is whether you want lively tennis sessions or a substantial solo campaign.
Is Mario Tennis Fever worth it?
It is a stronger fit for players who want accessible, chaotic tennis with friends than for anyone buying primarily for a long single-player journey. The distinction matters: the launch feature list is broad, but a large roster and several modes do not necessarily translate into a deep solo experience.

The Guardian’s review emphasizes the fun of multiplayer mayhem, while Nintendo Life’s review roundup describes praise for the party atmosphere and range alongside criticism of solo content and repetition in some modes. Those are reviewers’ assessments, not a universal verdict, but they point to the game’s clearest trade-off: lively matches are the attraction; sustained solo progression is less convincing.
What is included at launch?
Nintendo announced 38 playable characters and 30 Fever Rackets, calling the roster the largest in the series’ history. Those are official feature counts, not measures of how much variety or replay value every player will find. Nintendo also announced these modes:

- Keep a rally going, build up your gauge, and unleash powerful Fever Shots
- Equip Fever Rackets to add effects to your Fever Shots like freezing the court or shrinking opponents
- Mix and match over 30 Fever Rackets with 38 playable characters to find your own strategy
- Tournament: tournament matches, with co-op play noted by Nintendo Life’s review.
- Trial Towers: challenge-based play; Nintendo Life also reports co-op support.
- Mix It Up: matches with special rules and Wonder effects.
- Adventure: the story-driven mode and the primary solo-focused option.
Nintendo’s announcement describes the launch features and modes in its Mario Tennis Fever announcement. The breadth is real, but reviewers’ reservations concern the depth and repetition of some solo content rather than a shortage of characters or mode names.
How do Fever Rackets change the matches?
Fever Rackets add special abilities that push the tennis toward arcade spectacle. Their effects are a defining part of the game’s identity: they can make exchanges less predictable and amplify the party feel, especially when players enjoy the chaos.
They are not compulsory in every context. GamesRadar reports that Fever Rackets can be turned off and that ranked online play has distinct lobbies without them. That gives players who prefer more conventional tennis a route to play without the racket effects, though it does not mean every online mode or matchmaking rule works the same way. Nintendo Life also notes flexible free-play rules.

Is Mario Tennis Fever fun solo?
It can offer a range of activities, but the critical concern is whether those activities provide enough sustained variety for a solo player. Nintendo Life’s roundup reports that reviewers praised the roster and party atmosphere while criticizing single-player content and repetition in some modes. The Guardian compares the story mode’s framing to the Tennis Academy story mode in Mario Tennis for Game Boy Color; that is the outlet’s comparison, not a claim that the two campaigns are identical.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTechRadar’s reviewer reported playing about 15 hours, including Adventure mode and more than 100 matches across modes. That is one reviewer’s account of their time with the game—not a standard completion time, a reliable measure of how long Adventure takes, or a guarantee of how long it will hold another player’s interest.
How long is Adventure mode?
The available reviews do not establish a dependable Adventure-mode completion-time figure. TechRadar’s approximately 15 hours covers one reviewer’s play across Adventure and more than 100 matches in multiple modes, so it cannot be used as an Adventure-only estimate. If campaign length is central to your purchase, treat that uncertainty—and the reported concerns about solo depth—as more useful guidance than an unsupported hour count.

- Story Mode is back with a variety of twists on classic tennis play, including minigames, bosses and RPG elements
- 20+ playable characters and the possibility to play single or doubles matches
- Swing Mode is a more accessible mode, played with motion controls and the CPU takes over moving the character around the court
- Mario Tennis Aces can be played online, local and LAN multiplayer, all customisable in a variety of ways
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
Can you play Mario Tennis Fever with friends?
Yes. The reviews’ strongest case for the game is its multiplayer energy, and Nintendo Life reports co-op play in Tournament and Trial Towers. The modes and rules offer ways to make matches feel less conventional, while turning off Fever Rackets can suit players who want a more traditional contest.
The game supports local and online play, but the cited coverage does not establish that every mode, lobby or matchmaking rule is identical. In particular, GamesRadar reports separate ranked online lobbies without Fever Rackets; do not assume that detail describes all online matches.
Who should buy it?
- A good match: you want colorful, arcade-minded tennis for multiplayer sessions and enjoy effects that can turn rallies unpredictable.
- Consider carefully: you expect a substantial solo campaign or long-term solo progression. Reviewers’ concerns focus on Adventure and repetition, despite the sizable launch feature list.
- Check your platform: the game is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo lists a physical-copy product page in its US store; check that page for current price and availability.
Developer: Camelot Software Planning. Publisher: Nintendo. The game launched February 12, 2026.
