Marvel Rivals’ Season 6 update announced more Hero Proficiency levels and rewards, with previously accumulated Proficiency converting automatically into the new levels. That could mean instant unlocks for players who had already built up progress—but the official notes do not say that players must grind every hero.
What changed in Season 6?
In its official Version 20260116 patch notes, published January 14, 2026, Marvel Rivals announced that Season 6 would add more Hero Proficiency levels and rewards. The notes scheduled the season to begin January 16, 2026, at 09:00 UTC.
The key change was how existing progress would carry over: accumulated Proficiency was to convert automatically into levels when the update arrived. Players with enough stored progress could therefore unlock new rewards immediately, without starting that added progression from zero. The patch notes’ Deadpool narrator put it this way: “That means if you’ve been a total sweat and racked up a mountain of Proficiency, you’ll INSTANTLY unlock new rewards.”
Does the update mean you have to grind every hero?
Not according to the information in the Season 6 launch notes. They announce additional Hero Proficiency levels and rewards, but do not say that every hero must be leveled or provide the rules needed to determine how much play the new progression takes.

The notes also do not give per-hero level thresholds, how much Proficiency particular actions earn, or the time needed to reach a level. So “grind every single hero” is a player’s reaction to the expanded reward track—not a confirmed requirement described in the notes.
What the patch notes do not establish
- Exact progression requirements: The notes do not list the Proficiency needed for each new level or explain the earning rules.
- Specific reward details: They announce more rewards but do not enumerate them in the cited passage.
- Availability now: The January 2026 notes establish what was announced for the Season 6 launch, not whether that reward track or its rules remain unchanged in October 2026.
The same patch notes separately mention controller settings for saving, sharing, and swapping configurations, as well as an experimental high-polling-rate mouse optimization setting for PC. Those are separate features; the notes do not present either as necessary for Hero Proficiency progression.
