Marvel Rivals can remain at 99% for a minute or longer before opening, according to the official FAQ. Wait once while checking whether the game is still using disk, CPU, GPU or network resources. If it repeatedly stops responding, the most useful order is: install the game on an SSD, verify its files, update Windows and your graphics driver, assign the high-performance GPU, test antivirus and firewall exceptions, then investigate the network or reinstall. The developer recommends an SSD and directs unresolved cases to Marvel Rivals Support on Discord: official FAQ.
What the 99% screen can mean
The same percentage can represent different problems. Identify where it occurs before changing settings:
- Startup: the game does not reach the main menu.
- Match loading: the menu works, but joining a match stops at 99%.
- Reconnection: a disconnection prevents the game session from returning.
- Slow completion: the screen appears frozen but eventually enters after a minute or more.
The official FAQ acknowledges the last situation. It does not define a universal timeout or claim that every case has the same cause.
Check whether it is actually frozen
- Press Alt+Tab to confirm Windows still responds.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Check Marvel Rivals for ongoing CPU, GPU, disk or network activity.
- If activity continues, allow one load several minutes to finish.
- If the process is marked “Not responding,” resource use is flat, or every launch stops at the same point, end it in Task Manager and relaunch once.
This diagnostic prevents terminating a slow first load prematurely; it is practical guidance rather than a guaranteed game-status test.

Fastest fixes to try first
- Exit the game and its launcher completely, restart the PC, and launch once more.
- Confirm the installation is on an SSD. Marvel Rivals’ FAQ specifically recommends this for 99% loading.
- Verify or repair the installation files in your launcher.
- Install Windows updates and the latest stable NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics driver.
- Close overlays, recording software and other GPU-heavy programs.
Move Marvel Rivals to an SSD
The developer’s recommendation makes storage the best first system change, but an SSD is not a guaranteed cure. An HDD, nearly full drive or poor drive performance can prolong asset loading; moving the existing installation can improve loading without changing the game files.
The published requirements list 70 GB of available storage. Leave additional working space for patches and launcher operations.
Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Marvel Rivals and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files (or Local Files in older labels).
- Choose Move install folder, select an SSD library, and start the move.
Do not drag the folder manually unless Steam can correctly re-detect it.
Epic Games Store or Loading Bay
Use the launcher’s installation-management or library-location controls. If the launcher cannot relocate the existing files reliably, reinstall directly to the SSD instead of copying the directory by hand. Steam
- Open Library, right-click Marvel Rivals and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Let Steam download replacements, restart Steam, and launch the game.
Epic Games Store
- Open Library in Epic Games Launcher.
- Use the three-dot menu beside Marvel Rivals and select Manage.
- Choose Verify, wait for completion, and relaunch.
Loading Bay
- Open the launcher’s options menu for Marvel Rivals.
- Select Verify File Integrity.
- Finish all repairs before starting the game.

Update Windows, DirectX support and graphics drivers
Marvel Rivals lists Windows 10 64-bit version 1909 or newer and DirectX 12 as requirements. Its FAQ recommends updating the operating system and graphics driver for DirectX-related problems: official requirements and FAQ.
- Run Windows Update and restart.
- Install the latest stable driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
- Launch Marvel Rivals again.
- If the loading issue began immediately after a driver update, use the GPU vendor’s supported rollback procedure to test the previous stable driver.

Meeting minimum specifications does not guarantee fast loading. HDD performance, free space, drivers, thermal throttling, background memory use and damaged files can still matter.
Force the high-performance GPU
- Open Windows Settings.
- Go to System → Display → Graphics.
- Add the Marvel Rivals executable by browsing to the installation directory.
- Select it, choose Options, set High performance, and save.

Remove background and security interference
Close overlays and GPU-heavy applications
For one clean test, close Discord, Steam, Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, recording or streaming tools, browser video, RGB utilities and other games. These are troubleshooting variables, not confirmed universal causes.

Allow the executable through antivirus and firewall
Marvel Rivals’ technical guidance says security software can misidentify the game. Add an exception for the game directory and executable, commonly:

- Add the executable and installation directory to the relevant allowlist.
- Restart the launcher and test.
- If protection was temporarily disabled, turn it back on immediately.

When the freeze happens only in a match
- Exit the game and launcher, restart the router and PC, then retry.
- Test a wired connection or another network if available.
- Check firewall permissions and whether audio, chat or match activity continues behind the loading screen.
- Try the lowest-latency matchmaking server. This can help a connection-specific problem but is not a cure for local asset loading.
Do not treat DNS changes, VPNs, port forwarding or disabling IPv6 as official fixes. A VPN can add latency or packet loss and should not be purchased solely for this symptom.
Launcher, beta and platform edge cases
If the issue occurs only in one launcher, verify files and check its installation path first; switching launchers has not been established as a fix. Remove obsolete beta builds or launchers. The official release notice says earlier beta versions and launchers were not compatible with the official release: release notice.
Console players can apply the restart and network checks, but the detailed 99% guidance is primarily PC-focused. A game that works on console but not PC points toward a PC-specific variable without proving that servers are healthy.

- Move it to an SSD.
- Close GPU-heavy background programs.
- Verify files.
- Avoid repeated force-closes while disk or CPU activity continues.
It never reaches the main menu
- Restart launcher and PC.
- Verify files.
- Check SSD installation.
- Update Windows and GPU drivers.
- Check security exceptions.
- Reinstall only if these steps fail.
It reaches 99% only when joining matches
Prioritize router and alternate-network tests, firewall checks, and observation of continuing audio or chat. Report repeated failures across networks.

Reinstall after verification repeatedly finds problems, the launcher cannot repair or update, the game is trapped on an HDD that cannot be moved, old beta files remain, or the issue survives storage, driver, security and network checks. Install to an SSD, keep more free space than the stated 70 GB, and complete all updates before launching.
Could the problem be server-side?
No current official status in the cited guidance establishes a widespread outage or a guaranteed August 2026 fix. A server or session problem becomes more plausible when multiple players report the same failure, the issue begins immediately after an update, it affects more than one device or network, or clean local troubleshooting changes nothing. Do not label servers down without a current official announcement.
