Capcom’s April 16, 2025 update added local offline Versus Mode to the fighting games in MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, along with four remix tracks and a new gallery illustration by Capcom artist Shinkiro. The update did not add a game or change the lineup.
What the April 2025 update added
Capcom announced the update on April 15, 2025, and released it the following day. Its headline feature is offline Versus Mode: choose a second player or the CPU, then play a versus match. Settings are available through each supported game’s Versus Menu. Capcom’s Steam announcement describes the feature and update contents.

- Offline Versus: local matches against another player or the CPU.
- Music: four new remix tracks, available from the collection’s Sound menu. Capcom’s English Steam announcement credits its internal band CAP-JAMS; its Japanese press announcement credits the Capcom sound team. The announcements do not identify the individual track titles.
- Gallery: one new original illustration by Capcom illustrator Shinkiro.
These are additions to the existing collection, not new games or roster additions.
Which games have offline Versus?
The collection includes seven games: X-MEN CHILDREN OF THE ATOM, MARVEL SUPER HEROES, X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER, MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER, MARVEL vs. CAPCOM CLASH OF SUPER HEROES, MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 New Age of Heroes, and THE PUNISHER. Capcom describes the new feature as applying to the fighting titles. THE PUNISHER is a beat ’em up, so the announcement does not say it gets Versus Mode. How offline Versus differs from online play and co-op
Offline Versus is a local match against a second player or CPU; it is separate from the collection’s existing online multiplayer. Capcom describes online versus options including casual and ranked battles and lobbies. Co-op is a distinct option associated with THE PUNISHER, rather than a mode for the fighting titles. The update adds a local way to play head-to-head; it does not replace or redefine those existing online and co-op options.
How to access the additions
- Install the April 16, 2025 title update for your platform.
- Open one of the collection’s fighting games and enter its Versus Menu to choose a second player or CPU and adjust the match settings.
- To hear the new music, open the collection’s Sound menu and select from the added remix tracks.
- To view the new artwork, open the gallery.
A second controller is relevant for local two-player matches. A CPU opponent does not require a second player, and the sources do not establish one controller recommendation that applies across platforms.

Collection release context
The update is for MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a seven-game compilation. Capcom’s announcement lists the digital release dates as September 12, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam, and February 5, 2025, for Xbox One. The physical edition released November 22, 2024. Those are historical release dates, not confirmation of current regional availability, price, or stock. Check Capcom’s collection page for product information; store listings can vary by platform and region.
