Masahiro Sakurai’s Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games channel ended its regularly scheduled run in October 2024, but its final release was a separate special finale published on October 22. Sakurai said the channel archive would stay available and could serve as a study guide for current and aspiring game developers.
What was Sakurai’s final YouTube video?
The English special finale is titled “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games: Finale Special” and was published on October 22, 2024. Its official description says the video discusses how the channel was produced and why Sakurai was wrapping it up. The Japanese finale is available on Sakurai’s official Japanese channel.
The video was not the last regularly scheduled episode. Contemporary coverage reported that the final regular episode arrived on October 15, a week before the special finale. Nintendo Life reported the scheduled episode date, then covered the separate special finale.
Is the Creating Games channel ending or being deleted?
Sakurai described the channel as wrapping up its regular video run, not disappearing. In the finale’s official English description, he wrote: “Though my final video’s been released, the channel itself won’t be going anywhere.” That means viewers can continue to access the existing videos; it is not an announcement that the archive will be removed.

Will Sakurai’s game-development videos stay online?
Yes. Sakurai said he hoped the channel archive could function as a study guide for people already in game development and people aspiring to join the industry: “I hope it can serve as a study guide of sorts for those already in the game industry and for those aspiring to join it.” The description presents that as his hope for the videos, rather than a formal course or a guarantee of a particular learning outcome.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Could Sakurai upload to the channel again?
Sakurai left open the possibility of using the channel for announcements or more relaxed uploads in the future. He did not announce a firm return, a new series, or an upload schedule, so the special finale should not be read as either a promise of more videos or an absolute pledge never to post again.
