Its folding magnetic design, deployable grips, TMR sticks, gyro, and broad device support make it unusually versatile. However, its $149.99 MSRP, 197-gram weight, compact shoulder controls, lack of phone charging, and game-specific compatibility mean it is not the best-value choice for everyone.
Buy it if you want a full-control gamepad that folds to roughly phone size and travels separately from your handset. Choose a conventional telescopic or full-size controller instead if comfort, battery charging, or low price matters more than compactness.

What is the Ohsnap MCON?
The MCON is a folding magnetic smartphone controller rather than a conventional telescopic gamepad. When closed, it forms a compact, phone-sized unit with its controls protected. Pressing its deployment mechanism opens the controller, extends the grips, and exposes the gamepad controls.

| Connections | Bluetooth, USB-C wired, and 2.4 GHz with the Dock or Key Cast |
| Other features | Deployable grips, kickstand, auto wake/sleep, and pairing with up to three devices |
These are manufacturer-provided specifications, not independent measurements. The advertised “up to 9 hours” is a maximum claim and will vary with wireless mode, gyro use, connection distance, firmware behavior, and battery age. The MCON charges through USB-C, but it does not charge the attached phone.
TMR sticks and Hall-effect triggers
The MCON uses TMR thumbsticks and Hall-effect analog triggers. These designs are intended to reduce the mechanical wear associated with traditional potentiometer controls. Ohsnap and GameSir describe the sticks in anti-drift terms, but that should be understood as a design advantage—not a guarantee that drift can never occur.
Recommended Free Tools
The controller also includes analog triggers and a gyroscope, giving it a broader input set than basic clip-on mobile pads. Those features are useful for racing, shooters, flight games, motion aiming, and streamed console or PC games, provided the game or service supports them.
Compatibility: four different questions
“Compatible with a phone” can mean several different things. Before buying, separate these questions:
- Can the phone attach securely? This depends on the phone, case, magnetic alignment, camera bump, and supplied adapter.
- Will the operating system recognize the controller? This depends on the selected connection mode and platform.
- Does the game accept controller input? Many mobile games do not.
- Are advanced features supported? Gyro, analog triggers, remapping, and special layouts may not work identically across games or operating systems.
iPhone and iPad
The MCON supports iOS devices, with wired compatibility listed for iOS and an official iPhone/iPad app. The Ohsnap MCON app provides a controller-oriented game library and can identify controller-ready games installed on the device.
The app does not make every iOS game controller-compatible. The individual game must support controllers, or you must use a compatible streaming, remote-play, or emulation application.

- The Magnetic Phone Mount includes a complimentary metal magnetic adapter ring, enabling compatibility with non-magnetic phones to expand device support. This thoughtful inclusion ensures universal adaptability across diverse smartphones, making it the ultimate accessory choice for mobile gamers who demand both versatility and premium functionality.
Android
Ohsnap lists Android support, including non-MagSafe phones through the supplied adapter. The same game-support limitation applies: Android hardware recognition does not guarantee that every title accepts external controls. Some games may also respond differently depending on whether the MCON is using X-Input, DS4, or D-Input.
Windows and Mac
The MCON supports Windows and Mac through wired connection, while Bluetooth behavior depends on the application and selected mode. Ohsnap recommends Key Cast for the best Mac experience because ordinary wireless operation can introduce moderate latency. Mac buyers should therefore plan on wired play or the recommended accessory if latency matters.
Nintendo Switch
The NS wireless mode allows the MCON to function as a Switch gamepad. It does not turn the controller into a pair of detachable Joy-Con controllers; it remains one wireless gamepad.
Cloud gaming, remote play, and emulation
Ohsnap lists Steam Link, PlayStation Remote Play, GeForce NOW, Xbox streaming, and emulators among supported use cases. In practice, success depends on the operating system, streaming app, selected controller mode, and the game receiving the expected input. The MCON cannot bypass a service or game that blocks external controllers.
How to set up the MCON
- Attach the phone using MagSafe, PixelSnap, or the supplied adapter. A thin, properly aligned magnetic case generally provides the simplest experience.
- Deploy the controller and adjust the phone mount for a balanced viewing angle.
- Select the controller mode appropriate for the device or application: X-Input for many PC-style environments, DS4 for PlayStation-oriented software, NS for Switch, or D-Input for older software.
- Pair through Bluetooth, connect by USB-C, or use 2.4 GHz with the Dock or Key Cast.
- Test the sticks and buttons in a controller-supported game or gamepad tester before troubleshooting the game itself.
The MCON can pair with up to three devices, and Ohsnap says users can switch between them with a double tap of the pair button. Because behavior can vary between controller modes, test multi-device switching before relying on it during travel or live play.
If pairing works but the game does not
- Close the game or streaming application.
- Remove the MCON from the device’s Bluetooth settings.
- Power-cycle the controller.
- Re-enter the correct controller mode and pair again.
- Test the controller in another supported application.
- Try USB-C wired mode. If wired play works, the issue is likely Bluetooth pairing or mode selection; if it does not, the game may not support the controller.
Ohsnap’s available product information does not establish a complete, verified button-by-button reset procedure. Exact factory-reset or firmware instructions should be taken from the company’s current support material rather than guessed.
What the MCON does well
It is genuinely portable
The MCON’s main advantage is not simply that it is small. It folds into a phone-like shape, protects its controls when closed, and can travel separately from the phone. Unlike a telescopic controller, it does not need to remain attached to the handset in a bag.

Enjoy effortless control and play Fortnite, Call of Duty, Roblox, Genshin Impact, and many more anytime, anywhere. Note: Controller only works with games that support controller input, and does not support PS Remote Play
- 5M-Cycle Lifespan & Zero Drift: MC1 mobile gaming controller features a Hall-effect joystick with a 5M cycle lifespan, 2.5x longer than standard carbon-film sticks. Its innovative electromagnetic induction technology ensures drift-free operation, enabling precise character control in intense games and significantly extending this phone game controller durability
- Ergonomic Grip Design: The handle is ergonomically shaped with a l*ser-engraved texture for anti-slip and enhanced grip, effectively reducing fatigue during long gaming sessions. The scientifically designed joystick and button layout ensures smooth operation. Whether for personal use or as a gift, it delivers a more comfortable and healthier gaming experience
- 7-Color RGB Light Ring & 600mAh Battery: The mobile game controller features a 7-color adjustable light ring on the joystick(ABXY button lights can be turned off, but their colors are not adjustable). The lighting is vibrant yet eye-friendly. The built-in 600mAh battery provides up to 6 hours of battery life in brightness mode — enough for a full day of gaming
That compactness comes with a caveat: 197 grams is not weightless. Independent coverage has praised the portability while criticizing the controller’s heavy feel. It is compact enough to travel easily, but readers seeking an ultra-light pocket accessory should keep the weight in mind.
It offers more than basic mobile controls
The TMR sticks, analog triggers, gyro, tactile buttons, and deployable grips make the MCON suitable for more demanding games than a simple clip-on pad. The controls are also concealed when folded, which helps protect them during transport.
However, “console-style controls” does not mean “identical to a full-size console controller.” Android Authority’s review criticized the small shoulders and triggers, and the compact grip may be less comfortable for large hands or very long sessions.
It supports tabletop and optional TV play
The built-in kickstand makes tabletop gaming practical without requiring a separate phone stand. For TV or monitor gaming, the optional MCON Dock adds HDMI mirroring and 2.4-GHz connectivity. Ohsnap lists up to 4K/60Hz on compatible phones and displays.
The Dock is not included in the base controller’s value proposition. It requires a USB-C cable, HDMI cable, and power adapter rated at 35 watts or higher. The phone must also support the required USB-C video output; a dock cannot create HDMI output on a phone that lacks it.
Important limitations
The price is high
Ohsnap lists a $149.99 MSRP. The official listing showed a $129.99 sale price when checked, but promotional pricing can change and should not be treated as permanent. At either price, the MCON costs more than many conventional mobile controllers.
That premium pays for the folding magnetic mechanism, broad connection support, compact storage, and specialized hardware. It is difficult to justify if you only want an inexpensive way to play a few controller-compatible games.

The built‑in 800mAh battery delivers up to 8 hours of continuous use with the lighting on – more than enough for a full day of gaming
Comfort is a trade-off
The folding design prioritizes portability over spacious ergonomics. Independent review coverage found the MCON heavy and noted its small shoulder controls. Players with large hands, or anyone planning several-hour sessions, may prefer a conventional full-size gamepad or a more generously sized telescopic controller.
It cannot extend your phone’s battery
The MCON charges itself but does not pass power to the phone. Long cloud-gaming, remote-play, or emulation sessions may require a separate charger or power bank, reducing some of the convenience of a self-contained setup.

Magnetic attachment is case-dependent
A native MagSafe-compatible phone and a thin, well-aligned case should provide the cleanest experience. Thick, textured, uneven, or poorly aligned cases can weaken the attachment or interfere with the camera bump. The included adapter expands compatibility, but it may add thickness and is not necessarily as convenient or secure as a native magnetic case.
Test the mount before playing while standing, walking, or traveling. Clean and dry adhesive surfaces, allow an adapter to cure as directed, and do not assume that “works with all phones” means every phone-and-case combination feels equally secure.
Game support is not universal
A phone or platform can recognize the MCON while a particular game ignores it. Common causes include missing controller support, a mode mismatch, platform-specific input behavior, or a game that accepts only a particular controller family. Streaming apps and emulators can also handle input differently from native games.
MCON versus other controller types
| Controller category | Where it generally wins | Where MCON is stronger |
|---|---|---|
| Telescopic USB-C controller | Low latency, direct phone connection, often lower cost | Separate storage, broader phone-shape flexibility, folding portability |
| Bluetooth clip-on controller | Lower price and broad device use | Magnetic attachment, protected folding design, more premium controls |
| Full-size Bluetooth gamepad with phone clip | Long-session comfort and console ergonomics | Much easier to carry as a phone-first setup |
| Premium ecosystem controller | Platform-specific software, remapping, or certification | Cross-platform use and compact magnetic design |
There is no universal winner. The MCON is best when portability is the deciding criterion; it is not automatically the best choice for lowest latency, maximum comfort, or value.
Should you buy the MCON?
Buy it if you:
- Want a controller that folds small enough to carry separately from your phone.
- Use iPhone, Android, PC, Mac, Switch, emulators, or remote-play services.
- Value TMR sticks, analog triggers, gyro input, and multiple connection modes.
- Want tabletop play and may add TV/monitor functionality later.
- Already use a compatible magnetic case or are comfortable using the supplied adapter.
- Accept paying a premium for a specialized design.
Skip it if you:
- Need the least expensive comfortable controller.
- Want the controller to charge your phone.
- Have large hands and prioritize spacious grips and shoulder buttons.
- Mostly play games without controller support.
- Need a controller permanently attached to the phone.
- Primarily use Mac and do not want wired play or Key Cast.
- Need guaranteed support for one specific game that has not been tested with the MCON.
Final verdict
The Ohsnap MCON is a strong niche product, not a universal best mobile controller. Its folded magnetic design solves a real problem: carrying capable controls without leaving a bulky telescopic grip attached to the phone. Broad platform support, gyro input, analog triggers, tabletop play, and optional 2.4-GHz and TV use add genuine flexibility.
The compromises are equally real. The MCON is expensive, relatively heavy for its size, not designed for every hand, cannot charge the phone, and cannot guarantee compatibility with every game, case, Mac setup, or USB-C display. For portability-first mobile gamers, it can justify its premium. For everyone else, a cheaper telescopic, clip-on, or full-size controller is likely the better fit.
Check the current MCON price and package contents at Ohsnap before buying, since sale pricing, stock, and included accessories can change.
