mdll32.dll is usually a private file from an older MAGIX application, not a Windows component. If Windows reports that mdll32.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the MAGIX program that installed it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, record:
- Which program shows the error: Movie Edit Pro, Video deluxe, Music Maker, Photos on CD & DVD, or another MAGIX product.
- When it appears: during Windows startup, when launching the program, during installation, or after an antivirus event.
- The exact wording: “missing,” “cannot find,” “could not be loaded,” or “procedure entry point.”
- The installation path: look for the MAGIX program under
C:MAGIXorC:Program Files (x86)MAGIX. - The application architecture: repeated historical installations place this component in 32-bit application folders. That strongly suggests a 32-bit MAGIX component, but it does not prove that every release uses the same binary.
Do not assume that every mdll32.dll file is interchangeable. Different MAGIX products and releases may require different copies.

If the error names only the DLL, identify the owning program this way:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select the Startup apps tab and look for MAGIX entries.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for MAGIX, Music Maker, Movie Edit Pro, or Video deluxe.
- For each likely program, select Advanced options if available and note the installation details.
- Search File Explorer for
mdll32.dll. Record every path, but do not move or replace the files.
A file beside a MAGIX executable is more meaningful than a copy found in a Windows system folder.
What the error message means
“mdll32.dll is missing” or “cannot find mdll32.dll”
The MAGIX executable expected to find the file in its application directory, but the file is absent, blocked, deleted, or the installation is incomplete.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCommon causes include:
- An interrupted installation or uninstall
- A system restore that changed installed-program files
- Antivirus quarantine
- A damaged application directory
- A failed update
- A missing dependency required by the DLL
“The program cannot start because mdll32.dll is missing”
This is still an application repair problem. Reinstalling the complete MAGIX program is safer than copying a single DLL because other files may also be missing.
“The procedure entry point … could not be located in mdll32.dll”
An entry-point error usually means Windows found a DLL but it is the wrong version. For example, an older MAGIX executable may be loading a copy from another MAGIX release.
Do not replace the file with a copy from a newer product or a different edition. Restore the version supplied with the exact MAGIX installation.
Fix 1: Repair the MAGIX application
This is the safest first step when the program is already installed.

Try Windows app repair
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected MAGIX application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the MAGIX program again.
Windows does not provide an Advanced options repair button for every traditional desktop application. Microsoft documents these repair paths in its guide to repairing apps and programs.

Try repair from Control Panel
For older desktop installers:
- Press Windows+R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the MAGIX program.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If repair is not offered, continue with a complete reinstall.
Fix 2: Reinstall from the original MAGIX source
A full reinstall is the definitive fix when mdll32.dll was deleted or the application directory is inconsistent.
Use one of these sources:
- The original MAGIX CD or DVD
- The registered product download in MAGIX Service Center
- The installer supplied for your exact product, edition, language, and serial number
Do not install an unrelated MAGIX edition simply because it contains a file with the same name.
Reinstall cleanly
- Save project files, presets, and personal media separately.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the affected MAGIX program.
- If it is not listed there, open
appwiz.cpland uninstall it from Programs and Features. - Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer from local storage.
- If the installer requires it, right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Complete installation without interrupting it.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the program from its normal shortcut.
If the installer is from physical media that is unavailable, check MAGIX Service Center using the product’s registration and serial number. Availability for very old products depends on the registered product and current support status.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
If the application worked previously and suddenly reports a missing file, security software may have removed or quarantined it.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand recent events.
- Look for an event whose path points inside the legitimate MAGIX installation directory.
- Record the detected path and detection name before taking action.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined item can cause Defender to detect it again unless it is explicitly allowed, and that allowing a suspected threat requires caution. See Protection History in Windows Security.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The path is inside the expected MAGIX folder.
- The product was legitimately installed.
- The file was supplied by the original installer or verified by MAGIX support.
- You are not relying on a random DLL download.
In most cases, reinstalling the complete MAGIX application is safer than restoring one isolated file.
Fix 4: Correct a version or architecture mismatch
The 32 suffix and historical installation paths under Program Files (x86) suggest that mdll32.dll is associated with a 32-bit MAGIX application. This does not mean that every copy with this filename is identical.
Use the copy from:
- The same MAGIX product
- The same edition
- The same release
- The same language and installation media
Do not substitute MDLL64.dll for mdll32.dll. They are not established as interchangeable. Do not use a file from a newer MAGIX application to repair an older executable.
If mdll32.dll exists beside the MAGIX executable but the program still fails:
- Confirm that the path belongs to the program you are launching.
- Check whether multiple copies exist.
- Remove duplicate or manually copied DLLs from folders that are not part of the MAGIX installation.
- Run the exact installer repair or reinstall again.
- Note any new missing-DLL message after the repair.
A new dependency error may indicate that mdll32.dll itself was not the only damaged component.

Copying this file to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not the normal fix.
It can fail because:
- The application may need a product-specific version.
- A 32-bit application may load a different copy than expected.
- The DLL may have dependencies that are also missing.
- The system folder can make troubleshooting and cleanup harder.
- A copied file may create an entry-point mismatch instead of solving the original error.
A narrow exception is copying a verified file from the identical MAGIX installer into the exact MAGIX application directory, but reinstalling the application remains safer.
Do not run regsvr32 as a general fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. Microsoft documents its syntax in the regsvr32 command reference.
There is no reliable evidence that mdll32.dll is a self-registering COM component. Running:
regsvr32 mdll32.dll
will not:
- Recreate a missing file
- Repair the wrong version
- Install a dependency
- Restore a damaged MAGIX installation
Use registration only if an authentic MAGIX installer specifically instructs you to register this exact file.

Fix 5: Repair broader Windows component corruption
Run Windows repair commands only when several unrelated applications show system-file failures. If only one old MAGIX application is affected, repair that application first.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the MAGIX application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while the real problem remains an incomplete MAGIX installation. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan identifies, while repair actions are handled by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the MAGIX program remains the definitive fix for this app-specific DLL.

Fix 6: Check drivers only when the failure began after a system change
A graphics, audio, or MIDI driver is not a documented source of mdll32.dll, but old MAGIX applications can fail after broader system changes. Check drivers when the error began immediately after a hardware change, driver update, or Windows recovery operation.
- Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and Audio inputs and outputs.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test MAGIX.
Do not uninstall a working driver without a replacement plan. Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through many driver versions, but its full-version driver installation is optional and cannot replace repairing the MAGIX installation.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a known system change
If the error began after a system restore, software installation, driver change, or other identifiable event, System Restore may reverse installed-program and system-setting changes without affecting personal files.
- Press Windows+R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
You can also open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore. Microsoft explains this process in its System Restore documentation.
Afterward, test the MAGIX program. If mdll32.dll is still missing, reinstall the affected product.
Why Visual C++ downloads usually do not fix this file
mdll32.dll is not documented as part of Windows or as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. Microsoft’s redistributable packages use filenames such as MSVCR*.dll, MSVCP*.dll, and VCRUNTIME*.dll.
Install a Visual C++ redistributable only when the error explicitly names one of those Microsoft runtime files and the application requires it. Do not treat a Visual C++ package as a source for mdll32.dll.

FAQ
Is mdll32.dll a Windows file?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with old MAGIX application installations.
Should I download mdll32.dll separately?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong product version, or the wrong architecture. They also leave the rest of the MAGIX installation unrepaired.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. Restore it through the exact MAGIX installer or place a verified matching file only in the application’s own directory.
Is mdll32.dll 32-bit?
It is probably a 32-bit application component based on its filename and historical locations under Program Files (x86), but a universal architecture specification has not been established.
Why does the program show an entry-point error?
The application likely found a DLL but not the version containing the function it expects. Restore the matching copy from the same MAGIX release.
