Spend Credits on eligible Mech and Weapon level upgrades and other purchases priced in Credits. Keep A-Coins for rank upgrades and items or actions that specifically require them. For gear purchases, check the current price in the Gear Hub: not every item has the same currency options, and Plarium does not publish a universal best-value spending order.
Credits and A-Coins have different upgrade roles
Plarium Support’s Game Currencies article, updated April 1, 2026, lists both currencies for buying Mechs, Weapons, and Pilots. The key distinction is upgrades: Credits are listed for upgrading Mech and Weapon levels; A-Coins are listed for upgrading their ranks.

Other uses overlap, but are not identical. The table summarizes the uses Plarium documents; the cost and availability of a specific item can depend on what the game currently displays for your account.
| Currency | Documented uses | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| Credits | Buy Mechs, Weapons, and Pilots; upgrade Mech and Weapon levels; get Blueprints and buy Implants in the Shop; open Event Crates. | Use for eligible level upgrades and purchases priced in Credits. Check what else your planned upgrade or build will require before spending. |
| A-Coins | Buy Mechs, Weapons, and Pilots; upgrade Mech and Weapon ranks; buy Credits, Crates, Combat Point Boosters, and Blueprints in the Shop; cover missing Blueprints or Credits during specified Mech and Weapon upgrades; level Pilots when short of XP; buy Implants or refresh the Implant List; open Event Crates; change a nickname. | Keep them for rank upgrades or other intended purchases that require A-Coins. Treat using them to obtain Credits as a convenience choice, not an automatically good-value exchange. |
What to spend Credits on
Mech and Weapon level upgrades
Credits are the currency Plarium lists for Mech and Weapon level upgrades. Those upgrades also require Blueprints. If you are short on Credits or Blueprints, Plarium says A-Coins can cover missing amounts in specified upgrade circumstances, so inspect the actual upgrade screen before confirming.

What to spend A-Coins on

Other A-Coin-only needs
The documented A-Coin uses include refreshing the Implant List, buying Combat Point Boosters, changing a nickname, and purchasing Shop items such as Crates or Blueprints. A-Coins may also be used to level a Pilot when you are short of XP. These options compete with rank upgrades, so choose based on the item or action you actually intend to use.
How to decide before you spend
- For a level upgrade: check the Credits and Blueprint requirements on the Mech or Weapon upgrade screen. Use A-Coins to cover a shortage only if you accept the displayed cost and its trade-off against other A-Coin uses.
- For a rank upgrade: check the A-Coin cost and decide whether that rank upgrade is a priority for your intended hangar.
- For a gear purchase: compare the currencies shown for that specific item in the current Gear Hub, Shop, or event. Do not assume every Mech or Weapon can be bought with either currency.
- Before converting A-Coins into Credits: inspect the displayed amount and consider what else you might spend those A-Coins on. Plarium lists the option but does not publish an exchange rate or say that it is generally good value.
Plarium’s official Gear Hub announcement said that items in its Tiers could be acquired using Credits, A-Coins, or in-app purchases. That August 31, 2023 announcement described eight Tiers and reported 12 Mechs and 38 Weapons available for Credits or A-Coins at launch. Those counts are historical launch details, not a current inventory guarantee; use the in-game Gear Hub to check today’s availability and price.

Buying currency with real money
The official Mech Arena Store lists digital A-Coins and Credits packs and requires a Plarium ID to log in. Offers and prices can change, so verify the current listing before buying. A paid pack is a way to obtain currency, not evidence that a particular in-game spend is the best value for your account.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why there is no universal best-spend order
The official sources establish what each currency can be used for, but do not compare player outcomes or declare a universally optimal strategy. Which choice makes sense depends on your current inventory, the upgrade or purchase you are pursuing, and the prices and options shown in your game. Treat any spend order as a personal priority decision rather than a Plarium-endorsed rule.
