Medieval MC Forge MMC4: Modpack Installation and Server Setup Guide

A practical MMC4 guide covering Forge 1.20.1 requirements, conflicting build listings, the v39 version check, 5,000 MB RAM floor, hosted installation, client/server matching, backups, updates, and troubleshooting.

Medieval MC [FORGE] MMC4 runs on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge, and the same pack build must be installed on both the server and every player’s client. The newest file found for this guide is CurseForge’s MMC4 v39, listed February 26, 2026. Because listings disagree—Modrinth also shows v30 and older builds—confirm the file page and build number in your launcher or host panel before installing. For memory, CreeperHost publishes 5,000 MB as a minimum for the pack; treat that as a floor rather than a comfortable target.

What Medieval MC [FORGE] MMC4 is

MMC4 is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack built around a medieval-fantasy RPG and exploration experience. Its listing highlights overhauled strongholds and fortresses, powerful bosses, and mythical creatures. It has both client and server environments, so it is intended for multiplayer rather than as a client-only collection of mods.

The “Forge” part of the name matters. A vanilla 1.20.1 server, a Fabric server, or a client using a different loader cannot substitute for the required Forge environment. Every player also needs the matching client pack; installing only the server files is not enough.

Which MMC4 build should you install?

Build numbers are volatile, and the listings observed for this pack do not agree. The most recent file found in this guide is v39 on CurseForge, listed February 26, 2026, for Forge 1.20.1. Modrinth pages also show v30 and earlier releases. Some hosting pages called v30 the newest version, while another called v26 the last available build. Those labels are inconsistent, so use the actual file listing in the service you are installing from instead of relying on a search snippet.

Build Listing and date shown Format or size shown How to interpret it
v39 CurseForge, February 26, 2026 About 89 MB; Forge 1.20.1 Newest build found for this guide. Confirm it is still selectable before installation.
v30 Modrinth, February 2025 About 157 MiB; .mrpack A later Modrinth listing than v29, but not the newest file found overall.
v29 Modrinth, November 2024 Client and server environments Requires the pack on both sides.
v4 Modrinth, December 2023 Forge 1.20.1; client and server An older release and unsuitable when your players are using a newer build.
v26 Called “last available” on one hosting page Not stated Conflicts with the v30 and v39 listings; do not select it unless all players intentionally use v26.

Pick one exact build and record it before you create the world. A server on v39 and a client on v30 are different installations even though both target Minecraft 1.20.1. If a host’s picker presents a different “latest” version, check the file name, loader, Minecraft version, and release date rather than assuming the label is correct.

Hardware and software requirements

Minecraft and loader

  • Minecraft version: 1.20.1.
  • Mod loader: Forge, not Fabric or vanilla.
  • Environment: the pack is marked for both client and server use.
  • Build: the same MMC4 release on the server and each client.

Memory

CreeperHost lists 5,000 MB of RAM as a minimum for the pack. The page does not identify a year for that figure, so regard it as a published floor, not a guarantee of smooth play. A busy world, multiple players, exploration, and creature-heavy areas can require headroom beyond the minimum. If your host exposes a memory slider, do not allocate the entire machine’s RAM: the operating system and the Java process need room as well.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch actual behavior after the first launch. Long pauses during world generation, repeated out-of-memory errors, or a server that stops while loading a region indicate that the allocation is too low or that another resource limit has been reached. Increasing memory cannot repair a mismatched mod list or an incorrect Forge version.

Storage and backups

The pack file itself is listed at approximately 89 MB on CurseForge v39 and approximately 157 MiB for the Modrinth v30 .mrpack, but the installed server also needs the unpacked mods, configuration files, libraries, logs, and world. Leave additional disk space for world growth and backups. Before changing a live installation, copy the world folder and the server configuration to a separate location.

Prepare before installing

  1. Choose the canonical build. Write down the exact MMC4 version, Minecraft version, and Forge version shown by the file page or host panel. Do not mix files from different builds.
  2. Decide who controls updates. A hosted panel normally selects a pack build for you; a self-hosted machine gives you control over the downloaded files. Make this decision before creating the world so you have a rollback plan.
  3. Back up existing data. A pack installation or reinstall can replace files. Save the world, server properties, permissions, and any configuration you need before clicking an install button.
  4. Tell players the exact client build. Everyone should install the same MMC4 release and Forge 1.20.1 before attempting to connect.
  5. Reserve memory and disk space. Use the 5,000 MB published minimum as the starting floor and leave operating-system and backup capacity outside that allocation.

Hosted one-click installation

This is the best-documented server route available for MMC4. Hosting control panels commonly include a modpack browser. One listing identifies the pack with modpack ID 876851 and describes searching for that ID, selecting the latest “Medieval MC [FORGE] – MMC4” entry, and pressing Install. The exact provider behind that panel description is not confirmed, so labels and menus may differ in your account.

Installation steps

  1. Open your host’s server control panel and stop the server if it is running.
  2. Open the panel’s modpack browser or installer. Search for 876851 if the browser supports IDs; otherwise search for Medieval MC [FORGE] - MMC4.
  3. Inspect the result. Confirm that it says Forge, Minecraft 1.20.1, and the MMC4 build you intend to use. Do not choose a similarly named MMC3 or a different Minecraft version.
  4. Select the newest confirmed build. Because host listings have disagreed about v26, v30, and v39, compare the displayed file name and date with the source listing before proceeding.
  5. Create and download a backup when the panel offers one. Expect an install or reinstall to replace existing files; do not assume the world will be preserved automatically.
  6. Click Install and wait for the panel to finish downloading and unpacking the server. Do not start the server while the file operation is still in progress.
  7. Set the server’s memory allocation to at least the published 5,000 MB floor, subject to the plan’s limits, and leave capacity for the host system.
  8. Start the server once. The first launch can take longer while Forge and the pack create libraries, configuration files, and the world. Use the panel’s console and logs to identify a failed load rather than repeatedly restarting.
  9. Install the identical MMC4 build and Forge 1.20.1 on a test client. Connect before inviting the whole group; this isolates a pack or version problem from a network problem.

What to verify after the first start

  • The console reaches a ready state instead of stopping during mod loading.
  • The server reports the expected Minecraft and Forge versions.
  • The world appears and can be entered by a client using the same pack build.
  • The server has enough free disk space for the world and scheduled backups.
  • Your backup exists outside the installation directory and can be restored.

Client and server matching rules

Modrinth marks MMC4 as required on both client and server. Treat that as a strict matching requirement. A player should use the same Minecraft version, Forge version, MMC4 build, and mod set as the server. Even when two releases have the same Minecraft version, their mod versions or configuration files may differ.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game with Storage Tin,Ages 7+
  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Symptoms of a mismatch

  • The client is rejected before joining with a missing-mod or incompatible-version message.
  • The server log names a mod that is absent or has a different version on the client.
  • A player can launch the game locally but cannot complete the connection handshake.

Fix these errors by comparing the complete pack version first. Reinstalling the same build on both sides is safer than copying individual replacement mods from an unrelated release.

Manual Forge or MultiMC server setup: what is and is not established

A manual route is possible in principle, but no verified, version-specific manual server guide was available for this MMC4 assignment. That means there is no reliable command sequence here for downloading the correct server archive, installing Forge, or arranging the pack’s files. Generic instructions copied from another version can produce a server that starts incorrectly or silently lacks required mods.

If you self-host, use this as a validation checklist rather than as an unverified recipe:

  • First player or team to 500 wins.
  • When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!
  • Use Minecraft 1.20.1 and the Forge release associated with the selected MMC4 file.
  • Obtain the server-side files for that exact build, not a client-only export or a different MMC4 release.
  • Keep the server’s mods and configuration aligned with the client pack.
  • Configure Java memory so the process has at least the 5,000 MB published floor while the operating system retains headroom.
  • Accept the server’s license terms through the normal Minecraft server procedure before first use.
  • Start once in a separate test directory, inspect the log for Forge and mod-loading errors, and only then move or generate the production world.
  • Back up the world before every pack update and retain the previous files until the new build has been tested.

Do not treat a successful process launch as proof that the installation is correct. A server can start with missing optional content while still failing when a player enters a dimension, loads a structure, or triggers a modded creature. Test a fresh client connection and inspect the first-session logs.

Hosted versus manual operation

Decision area Hosted one-click install Manual Forge or self-hosted install
Setup effort Use the panel’s modpack browser, select the build, and install. Obtain the correct server files, install or configure Forge, copy matching files, and validate logs. A complete MMC4-specific procedure is not established here.
Version control The host’s picker controls which builds are offered; labels can conflict, so verify the selected file. You control the exact archive and can retain an older build for rollback.
Hardware and cost You pay for a hosting plan and must stay within its memory and storage limits; exact prices are not stated. You supply the machine, CPU, memory, storage, network, and maintenance; exact costs depend on that hardware.
Updates Convenient, but an install or reinstall may wipe existing data. Back up first. You choose when to replace files and can stage an update, but every backup and compatibility check is your responsibility.
Troubleshooting Panel logs and provider limits are the first places to check. You must diagnose Java, Forge, file layout, operating-system, and network issues yourself.

Updating MMC4 without losing a world

  1. Record the current build and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the world, configuration, permissions, and any custom server files to a separate backup location.
  3. Read the target file’s Minecraft and Forge requirements. Do not update only because a panel calls it “latest.”
  4. Install the target build in a test instance or a duplicate server directory.
  5. Connect with a client using that same target build and explore a copy of the world. Check dimensions, structures, inventories, and modded entities.
  6. Only after the test succeeds, schedule the production change and keep the previous backup and files until the group has completed a normal session.

If the host’s installer warns that it will reinstall the server, stop and verify the backup before confirming. A pack update that deletes the world is not recoverable unless a separate copy exists.

Troubleshooting common failures

The panel offers v26 or v30 instead of v39

The listings conflict. Confirm the file page, the Minecraft version, the Forge loader, and the release date. If v39 is unavailable in your panel, either wait for the provider’s catalog to update or deliberately install the same older build on every client. Do not combine a v39 server with v30 clients.

Players receive a missing-mod or incompatible-version error

Compare the complete MMC4 build and Forge version on the server and client. Reinstall the pack as a whole rather than replacing one jar file. A matching Minecraft version alone does not establish compatibility.

The server stops while loading or runs out of memory

Check the memory allocation against CreeperHost’s 5,000 MB minimum, then inspect the log for the failing mod or stage. Leave system headroom and confirm that the host has not imposed a lower plan limit. More RAM will not correct a wrong loader or mixed pack versions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The world disappeared after installation

Assume the install replaced the server directory. Stop making changes, locate the backup or provider snapshot, and restore it to a separate test instance first. If no independent backup exists, the data may not be recoverable.

An online tutorial mentions MMC3 or Minecraft 1.19

Do not follow its version-specific steps for MMC4. The Apex Minecraft Hosting walkthrough found for this topic covers the older MMC3 pack on Minecraft 1.19, so its files and version instructions are outdated for MMC4’s Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge target.

Practical launch checklist

  • ☐ Minecraft 1.20.1 is selected.
  • ☐ Forge is selected on both server and clients.
  • ☐ One exact MMC4 build is recorded; server and clients use it.
  • ☐ The chosen file was verified on its listing rather than inferred from a search result.
  • ☐ At least 5,000 MB is available to the server process, with operating-system headroom.
  • ☐ The world and configuration are backed up before installation or update.
  • ☐ The first launch reaches a ready state and its logs show no mod-loading failure.
  • ☐ A test client connects before the server is opened to the whole group.

Bottom line

For most groups, the hosted modpack browser is the least risky MMC4 setup: search for the pack (ID 876851 where supported), verify the exact Forge 1.20.1 build, back up first, and install. The newest build found here is CurseForge v39 from February 26, 2026, but catalog conflicts mean you must confirm availability at the moment you install. Allocate at least the published 5,000 MB minimum, keep clients and server on the identical build, and treat older MMC3 or Minecraft 1.19 tutorials as irrelevant to MMC4.
