To complete Memory of the Deep in Avowed, speak with Josep Abaccio at Coastal Farms in Emerald Stair, retrieve the Mysterious Meteorite from the bottom of Lake Lacuna, then decide whether to hand it to Josep or the Giftbearer. Walkthrough guides report that revenants turn hostile after you surface with the meteorite, so be prepared to fight or leave the area.
How to start Memory of the Deep
Find Josep Abaccio at Coastal Farms in Emerald Stair and speak with him to begin the side quest. He asks you to investigate revenants that have been wandering away from the farms and gathering near Lake Lacuna. Neoseeker places Coastal Farms southeast of Fior mes Iverno. Game8 and Neoseeker describe this starting point.
Where to find the Mysterious Meteorite
Travel to Lake Lacuna and investigate the water. The Giftbearer, a stranger near the lake, may speak with you about the object below and ask you to bring it to him. This conversation is described as optional in walkthroughs; it is not necessary to locate the meteorite.
Dive into the lake and search the bottom for the Mysterious Meteorite. Neoseeker places it in the deepest central area. After picking it up, swim back to the surface. Game8 and Neoseeker report that revenants become hostile once you resurface with the item, so prepare to fight them or leave the area. Neither guide establishes a reliable, version-specific oxygen duration or a guaranteed way to escape without combat.

Should you give the meteorite to Josep or the Giftbearer?
Walkthroughs report 550 gold for either direct hand-in. Giving the meteorite to Josep is also reported to grant Chanter’s Panpipes. These are secondary-guide reward reports, not officially confirmed or independently tested here.
| Recipient | Reported reward | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Josep Abaccio | 550 gold and Chanter’s Panpipes | Return to him at Coastal Farms. |
| The Giftbearer | 550 gold | Give him the meteorite near Lake Lacuna. |
The wider consequences of choosing one recipient over the other are not firmly established by the available walkthroughs. If you want the reported item reward, Josep is the choice associated with Chanter’s Panpipes.

A reported memory-trade route
Destructoid and Windows Central describe a dialogue option in which you negotiate with the Giftbearer and offer a memory, then take the meteorite to Josep. Treat this as a reported route, not a guaranteed or patch-proof sequence: the sources do not confirm its behavior across game versions. See Destructoid’s walkthrough and Windows Central’s guide.

Game8 lists an update date of March 4, 2025; other guide pages do not provide a clear version context. Patch-sensitive details, including the memory-trade route, may therefore differ in your game.
