If you want your Quest 3S to last longer between charges, start with Battery Saver: it is the clearest documented runtime setting, but it dims the display and lowers the refresh rate. For comfort, find the clearest view among the headset’s three physical IPD positions and adjust the fit. For privacy, review the headset’s privacy controls and turn off hand and body tracking if you do not want to use those features.
Use Battery Saver when runtime matters most
Meta documents the setting at Settings > General > Power > Battery Saver. Its Battery Saver guidance says the feature gradually reduces display brightness to 40%, lowers the refresh rate to 72 Hz, enables Fixed Foveated Rendering level 3, and disables certain CPU and GPU frequency boosts.
The tradeoff is a dimmer image and a lower refresh-rate ceiling. Meta does not publish how many extra minutes Battery Saver adds on Quest 3S, so treat it as a way to reduce power use—not a runtime guarantee. If you manually change brightness, Meta notes that it can affect Battery Saver’s gradual dimming and how brightness is restored when the feature is turned off.
Meta’s device comparison gives Quest 3S an approximate battery-life estimate of about 2.5 hours. That is a device-level estimate, not a tested result or promise for a particular game, brightness level, battery condition, or headset.

Adjust physical fit and IPD for a clearer, more comfortable view
Quest 3S has three preset positions for interpupillary distance (IPD), the spacing between the lenses. Unlike Quest 3’s continuous slider, the 3S uses these fixed positions. Try each position and use the one that gives you the clearest comfortable view; software settings cannot compensate for a poor physical fit.
Meta lists a 96° horizontal field of view and a display resolution of 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye for Quest 3S. Those specifications describe the headset, not how it will fit or look to any one person. If facial pressure is the issue, Meta also lists a Quest 3S Breathable Facial Interface as an optional accessory. It is an alternative to consider, not a guaranteed fix for every face shape.

Review tracking and privacy controls
Meta says hand and body tracking can be disabled in Settings on its Quest 3S product page. If you do not want to use these features, turn them off using the controls available on your headset. The exact privacy menus can change with Horizon OS, so check the labels on your current software rather than relying on an unverified click-by-click path.
Meta’s Quest privacy guidance says sensor images of hands and bodies, when hand and body tracking is enabled, are examples of data processed on-device and overwritten instantaneously. It also says Move measurements users choose to provide are an example of data stored locally. These examples do not establish that all Quest data is handled the same way.

Meta says users can manage privacy settings in the headset and use its Privacy Center to learn how to change settings, view information, download information, and delete data. Disabling hand and body tracking should not be treated as changing unrelated app, account, voice, or social-data practices. Quest 3S also lacks eye-tracking hardware, so there is no eye-tracking feature on this model to switch off.
Do not expect removal to trigger Auto Sleep
Quest 3S has no proximity sensor. Meta’s Auto Sleep guidance says the behavior in which taking off a headset and waiting for its configured Auto Sleep interval pauses an app does not apply to Quest 3S. When you finish, use the power button or shut the headset down instead of assuming that removing it will put it to sleep. The reviewed guidance does not establish a current consumer-menu path for changing a sleep timer.

Keep the boundary even when using passthrough
Passthrough can help you see your surroundings, but Meta’s health and safety guidance says it is not equivalent to natural human vision and does not replace the boundary. Keep the boundary as a safety aid, clear floor clutter, and avoid uneven surfaces.
Meta warns that long periods of full passthrough may cause visual discomfort, motion sickness, disorientation, or negative after-effects. Take intermittent breaks, and wait for discomfort to pass before resuming.

For privacy context, Meta’s passthrough documentation says standard passthrough is composited by the operating system and does not give apps raw camera data. Apps that seek raw camera frames require appropriate camera permissions and should clearly explain their processing. That developer-facing detail is not a blanket guarantee about every app or optional camera permission.
