It launched in the U.S. on June 24, 2025, with an original price of $399.99. However, it was a limited-edition release, so its launch announcement should not be mistaken for guaranteed stock in 2026. Remaining retailer inventory, used units, and reseller listings may still appear, but buyers should verify checkout availability and whether the promotional codes are valid.
It is also important to understand what “Xbox Edition” means: this is a themed 128GB Meta Quest 3S bundle, not an Xbox console or a dedicated Xbox VR headset. Xbox games are accessed through cloud gaming and displayed on a large virtual screen.

What is the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition?
The Xbox Edition is the first limited-edition Quest release announced by Xbox and Meta. Its underlying platform is the standard Meta Quest 3S, with Xbox-themed styling, an included Xbox Wireless Controller, an Elite Strap, and promotional subscriptions.

Launch date and original price
Microsoft and Meta announced the headset on June 24, 2025, at an official U.S. price of $399.99 before tax and shipping. The original launch announcement listed Meta.com and Best Buy in the United States, and Argos and EE in the United Kingdom. Xbox also warned that quantities were extremely limited. See the official Xbox announcement for the launch details.
In 2026, “out now” should therefore be treated as historical launch wording. A product page can remain online after inventory has sold through. The safest buying assumption is that availability must be checked retailer by retailer rather than presumed from the original announcement.

How Xbox gaming works on the headset
The Quest 3S Xbox Edition runs the Xbox app and supports Xbox Cloud Gaming. Compatible games appear on a large virtual display inside the headset, much like playing on a giant screen. They are not converted into stereoscopic VR games.
You generally need:
- A Microsoft account.
- A compatible controller, such as the included Xbox Wireless Controller.
- A qualifying Game Pass subscription for most cloud-playable games.
- A sufficiently fast and stable internet connection.
An Xbox console is not required for Xbox Cloud Gaming. That qualification matters: other Xbox features, including remote-play scenarios, may involve a console, while cloud gaming streams the game from Microsoft’s servers. Xbox’s current VR headset support page lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 as supported headsets.
Cloud gaming quality depends on Wi-Fi, latency, network congestion, regional service availability, and server conditions. The available games and required plans can also change by region, platform, subscription tier, and date. A Game Pass catalog should not be treated as a permanent fixed list.

What it does not do
- It is not an Xbox console.
- It does not run Xbox console games locally.
- It does not provide a library of native first-party Xbox VR games.
- It does not give the Quest 3S sharper Quest 3 optics or more storage.
The included Xbox controller is useful for cloud gaming, but it is not exclusive to this headset. Xbox controllers can also be paired with other supported Quest headsets.
Quest 3S hardware compromises still apply
Because the Xbox Edition is fundamentally a 128GB Quest 3S, it has the same value-focused compromises as the regular model:
- 128GB storage: Large VR games can make this capacity restrictive if you keep many titles installed.
- Fresnel lenses: They do not provide the edge-to-edge clarity of the pancake lenses used in Quest 3.
- Entry-level optics: The Xbox Edition does not offer Quest 3-level optical clarity.
Its advantages are the design, included accessories, and subscriptions—not a faster processor or a superior display platform.

Is the bundle good value?
At its original $399.99 price, the Xbox Edition was most compelling for a new VR buyer who would otherwise purchase an Elite Strap, an Xbox controller, and Game Pass separately. The limited-edition finish adds collector appeal, while the included accessories make the package more complete than a basic Quest 3S.
The calculation changes for existing Quest owners. If you already own a compatible controller and comfortable head strap, the bundle’s extras are less valuable. A standard Quest 3S may be the better buy, especially if the Xbox Edition is being sold above its original price.
Buyers who care mainly about native VR should also consider the Meta Quest 3. Its pancake lenses and greater storage can matter more over several years than the Xbox-themed accessories, although the Quest 3 may cost more than the Xbox Edition’s original MSRP.
Best Value
- Transform your reality and do everything you love in totally new ways. Welcome to Meta Quest 3S.
- Explore thousands of unreal experiences with mixed reality, where you can blend digital objects into the room around you or dial up the immersion in VR.
- Have more fun with friends in Quest. Whether you’re stepping into an immersive game with people from around the world, watching a live concert together in Meta Horizon or inviting everyone over to cast your play onto the TV.
- Multi-tasking has never been this easy. Pull up multiple screens at once to browse the web, watch YouTube and direct message with friends — all while keeping your room in view.
Are the Game Pass and Horizon+ offers still valid?
The original announcement specified three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and three months of Meta Horizon+. That does not guarantee that an unredeemed code remains valid on a unit purchased in 2026.
For example, the Best Buy listing included a disclaimer referring to an associated offer ending June 30, 2026, subject to eligibility and auto-renewal terms. EE’s support documentation used different promotional language, including references to a longer Game Pass offer. Those terms should be treated as retailer- and promotion-specific, not universal to every Xbox Edition box.
Before buying, confirm:
- Whether the listing explicitly includes the codes.
- The code redemption deadline.
- Whether the offer is limited to new or eligible subscribers.
- Whether the code has already been redeemed.
- Whether subscriptions renew automatically after the promotional period.
An expired promotion does not necessarily make the headset unusable; it simply reduces the bundle’s value.

The Xbox Edition was released in limited quantities, and current availability is not guaranteed. A live product page is not the same as confirmed inventory. Check that the retailer allows the item to be added to the cart and completed through checkout.
For third-party or resale listings, verify the seller, condition, model, included Xbox controller, Elite Strap, and promotional-code status. Avoid paying a large collector’s premium if a standard Quest 3S or Quest 3 better fits your needs. A higher resale price reflects scarcity, not improved performance.
Which headset should you buy?
Choose the Xbox Edition if:
- You are new to VR and want Xbox Cloud Gaming on a large virtual screen.
- You do not already own an Xbox controller or upgraded head strap.
- You value the black-and-green limited-edition design.
- The price is near $399.99 and the included codes are confirmed valid.
Choose a standard Quest 3S if:
- The Xbox Edition is unavailable or heavily marked up.
- You do not need the themed controller and accessories.
- You already own a compatible controller.
- You want the lowest-cost route into the Quest ecosystem.
Choose a Quest 3 if:
- Optical clarity is more important than limited-edition styling.
- You want pancake lenses.
- You need more storage for native VR games.
- You expect to use the headset primarily for native VR rather than streamed Xbox games.
Skip the bundle if:
- You want an Xbox console experience rather than cloud gaming or VR.
- Your internet connection is unreliable for streaming.
- The seller cannot verify the headset’s condition or promotional codes.
- The price is substantially above the original $399.99 MSRP.
One easily missed detail
Do not assume that every Quest 3S package includes the same game promotions. The Xbox Edition was not listed as including Batman: Arkham Shadow in a Meta Store Support response reproduced on Best Buy’s Q&A page. Bundle contents and promotions should always be checked for the exact product listing.
