It should not be rewritten as a confirmed sales-driven shutdown: Android Central speculated that Lone Echo II‘s sales might have played a role, but the article did not present that as an established cause. What games and technology did Ready at Dawn make?

In a Meta developer interview, Ready at Dawn project lead David Neubelt said Echo VR grew out of multiplayer experiments made during work on Lone Echo. Neubelt and colleague Jacob Copenhaver created a game-jam prototype that became a standalone title. The finished game presented zero-gravity sports and combat played by robots from Lone Echo‘s fictional setting.
Was the Ready at Dawn closure the same as the Echo VR shutdown?
No. Echo VR ended in 2023, more than a year before Meta closed Ready at Dawn. The two decisions had different stated explanations.

What Bosworth said about Echo VR
In a February 2, 2023 response transcribed by UploadVR, Bosworth described Echo VR‘s audience as “measured in the low 10 thousands.” He said the community was loyal but that Meta preferred to direct the staff resources needed to run the game toward work that could affect more people.
Bosworth also said Meta had considered open-sourcing or selling Echo VR. He explained that those options did not make sense because the game was deeply entangled with Meta’s systems and its team was expected to work on other projects. Those comments explain the service shutdown, not the later closure of Ready at Dawn.
