Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 gathers the early Metal Gear games and several substantial digital extras, but its technical story depends on which game, platform, and update you mean. It is a convenient way to access the series’ early catalogue together; it is not a set of new remakes, and older performance reports should not be treated as measurements of the current versions.
What’s included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1?
Konami’s official collection page lists seven games. MGS2 and MGS3 are the versions from the HD Collection, rather than new remakes.
- Metal Gear
- Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
- Metal Gear Solid, including VR Missions or Special Missions, depending on region
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version)
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version)

- Snake’s Revenge
Additional regional versions are offered as downloads. Check the specific store listing or physical edition before buying: the documented availability of extra downloads does not mean every game or bonus is included on every cartridge or disc.
Digital books, graphic novels, and soundtrack
The extras include Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel and Metal Gear Solid 2: Digital Graphic Novel, presented as video. Konami describes the first as a fully voiced animated comic depicting the events of MGS, with the second expanding on the sequel’s story. The collection also includes digital Screenplay Books and Master Books for MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, and the original Metal Gear games, plus a digital Metal Gear Solid soundtrack. Konami says the books are accessed from the game’s main menu.

Which platforms is the collection available on?
Konami lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S; its platform information also identifies Steam. Availability and included regional material can vary by edition, so confirm the platform and edition on the store page before purchase.
How does it run, and what have updates changed?
There is no single performance verdict that applies to every game and platform. Konami’s update pages document particular options and issues, while independent reports describe specific hardware and points in time. Keep those scopes separate: a launch-era Switch report, for example, does not establish how the collection performs on Switch 2 after later updates.

PS5: MGS2 display and control settings
Konami’s PS5 MGS2 update documentation describes resolution choices, including upscaling to 4K, high-resolution movie options, and controller remapping. The same update page recorded launch-era slowdown in some cutscenes and a planned timing correction. Those are historical notices, not proof that the issues persist in the current version.
PS5: MGS3 high-resolution texture pack
In a February 13, 2026 notice, Konami announced an optional High Resolution Texture Pack for MGS3 on PS5. Installing it requires approximately 22 GB of free PS5 storage. It enables high-resolution texture and screen settings; Konami warns that loading may take longer and some setups may become unstable after settings changes. A further notice dated March 17, 2026 says a patch for the texture pack followed. These details are specific to PS5 and should not be assumed to apply to other platforms.

MGS1 settings and issue notices
Konami’s PS5 MGS1 update page documents settings and earlier investigations involving certain cutscenes and analog input. It does not establish that every version has the same issue status.
Switch and Switch 2 reports
Digital Foundry’s November 2023 technical review is a launch-period cross-platform baseline. It criticized the original technical execution and reported frame-rate drops to 30 fps on Switch. It predates later patches and Switch 2 support, so it cannot answer how the current Switch 2 version performs.

For the February 2026 Switch 2 update, Nintendo Life reported that MGS2 and MGS3 reached 1080p and 60 fps on Switch 2. This is a secondary report, not a hands-on measurement established here. It also refers to those two games, not every title in the collection.

The collection’s strongest case is convenience: the early games and digital extras are brought together, and Switch adds the option to play portably. Whether that trade-off suits you depends on the exact game you plan to play and how much you value portability against display and texture options. The evidence above is not a same-patch, hands-on comparison across platforms, so it does not support a definitive platform ranking.

Before choosing an edition, compare the factors that affect your use:
- Portability: Switch lets you play away from a television; other listed platforms are console or PC options.
- Image options: Konami documents specific resolution and movie settings for MGS2 on PS5, and a separate high-resolution texture option for MGS3 on PS5.
- Performance evidence: Check that a report names the game, platform, and update period. The 2023 Switch findings are not current Switch 2 results.
- Storage and downloads: The PS5 MGS3 texture pack needs approximately 22 GB free, and regional versions may be extra downloads.
- Controls and extras: MGS2’s PS5 documentation includes remapping; the digital books are accessed from the game’s main menu.
Verdict
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is a broad, useful bundle for players who want the early series and its accompanying digital material in one place. Its appeal is clearest when judged as a collection of legacy releases with platform-specific updates—not as a uniform technical experience. Check your chosen edition’s contents, and weigh portability against the display options and storage needs relevant to the games you intend to play.
