Windows Central says Sharma discussed Battle.net and the Witcher 3 partnership at an internal Xbox town hall, adding: “We will do it the right way for those communities.”
What did Xbox say about Battle.net and Steam?
Windows Central reports that Sharma described Battle.net as almost on par with Steam for user retention and said the partnership bringing CD Projekt RED games, including The Witcher 3, to Battle.net would grow further. The outlet says it received a transcript of the town hall and that trusted sources verified it, but its report does not link to a public transcript or recording.

The retention comparison is qualitative. The report gives no percentage, measurement period, or methodology, so “almost on par” should not be treated as a published statistic or a claim that the two stores perform equally across the board. VGChartz repeats the comparison but supplies no underlying data.
Does this mean Battle.net is becoming Steam?
No such broader plan is established by the remarks reported so far. The comparison concerns one dimension—user retention. The cited coverage does not compare the storefronts’ catalogue breadth, pricing, social features, community tools, or publisher policies, and it does not say Battle.net will adopt Steam’s approach in those areas.

The “right way for those communities” line suggests a commitment to account for the communities already on Battle.net as the service grows. That is an interpretation of Sharma’s reported words, not a detailed strategy or definition of what the phrase means.

A Witcher 3 community-manager post says Remastered is a free update to the current game, rather than a standalone new game, and that it will also launch on Battle.net. The post says the Classic, Next Gen, and Remastered builds will remain available on Steam and GOG.

That gives the partnership a concrete example: a major third-party game is coming to Battle.net while its listed builds remain on other storefronts. It does not establish that every version or feature will be identical between stores, nor does it reveal a complete future Battle.net catalogue.
