Advance the Altabury Heights story through the Opera House, then speak with him on the Gauntlet Runner to begin his bond. His eight ranks alternate between Runner conversations and daytime free-day events. Rank 6 requires Imagination 5; rank 8 requires Eloquence 5 and completion of A Brother’s Mercy.
How to unlock Basilio’s Follower Bond
Progress the story in Altabury Heights and defeat Louis at the Opera House. After that story milestone, look for Basilio on the Gauntlet Runner while traveling. Gamer Guides lists 9/13 as the earliest in-game date for his initial bond conversation; treat that as a guide’s earliest listed date, not a real-world date or a guarantee that he will be available regardless of story progress. Gamer Guides and PC Gamer both place his bond in this late-game stretch.

Basilio bond rank requirements and event schedule
His bond has eight ranks. Runner events and daytime free-day conversations alternate, and some events require time to pass before the next one becomes available. Check the Runner and Basilio’s daytime availability after each conversation rather than expecting all ranks to trigger in sequence on the same day.
| Rank | Where and when | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gauntlet Runner | Begin the bond after the late-game story unlock. |
| 2 | Daytime, free day | Available after starting the bond. |
| 3 | Gauntlet Runner | Wait at least one full free day after rank 2. |
| 4 | Daytime, free day | Continue the bond after rank 3. |
| 5 | Daytime, free day | Continue the bond after rank 4. |
| 6 | Daytime | Imagination rank 5. |
| 7 | Daytime | Continue the bond after rank 6. |
| 8 | Daytime | Eloquence rank 5 and completion of A Brother’s Mercy. |
The schedule and gates are listed in the Gamer Guides rank reference; PC Gamer’s Basilio guide also identifies the late-game, virtue, and quest prerequisites. If an event is not available, check whether it needs a daytime free day, travel on the Runner, a waiting day, or a prerequisite before spending time elsewhere.

What Basilio’s bond rewards
The bond develops the Berserker Archetype lineage, including Destroyer and the Grand Fantasy reward associated with Royal Berserker progression. Bond abilities also reduce MAG costs for studying Berserker Archetypes, add skill inheritance slots, provide reserve EXP benefits, and improve Basilio’s evasion against Human and Beast attacks through Beast-Scent Adept and Beast’s Insight. These combat passives benefit Basilio rather than functioning as broad party-wide bonuses. See the rank-by-rank reward list and PC Gamer’s overview.
Prioritize the bond if you plan to use Basilio or invest in the Berserker family. Grand Fantasy is a bond reward, but it should not be read as proof that every Royal Archetype becomes available immediately; the timing of later progression is not established by these guides.

Is a guidebook needed?
No. The rank schedule and prerequisites above are sufficient for Basilio’s bond. For a full-game reference, Future Press lists a 592-page printed Metaphor: ReFantazio Official Strategy Guide, which covers the broader game and bond events. Xbox also lists a Guidebook Edition with a 55-page digital strategy guide curated from the printed guide; check its listing for the edition’s current contents and availability: Xbox Guidebook Edition.
