If the METRO Redux upgrade is not appearing or will not install on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, first check the release date: as of October 3, 2026, the console update has not launched. PLAION schedules it worldwide for October 29, 2026, with Japan scheduled for November. Existing owners of METRO 2033 Redux or METRO Last Light Redux get the update free; you do not need to buy either game again.
Check whether the update is available yet
PLAION’s support FAQ and publisher announcement schedule the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S update for October 29, 2026, worldwide, and November in Japan. Until the release date for your region, the upgrade may not appear in your library or offer an install option. The FAQ also schedules the Windows Store release for October 29; its PC release dates for Steam, Epic, and GOG are October 22.
The update is for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux. If you already own either title, the upgrade is free. New buyers automatically receive the updated version when purchasing either game, but existing owners do not need to repurchase it.
Find and install the eligible game
On PS5
Sony’s general download instructions say to open Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, then choose Download. The game installs automatically. Add-ons, if applicable, are listed in the game’s Add-Ons section. See Sony’s guide to finding and downloading games.

Make sure you are signed into the PlayStation account that owns the game. If you own it on disc, insert the disc when prompted; a digital entitlement on another account will not appear as owned on yours.
On Xbox Series X|S
Check your library or the game’s store page while signed in to the account that owns the eligible title, and record any error shown during the attempt. The available publisher guidance confirms upgrade eligibility and timing but does not document a specific Xbox install path or fix. For console-specific steps, use current Xbox Support instructions rather than guessing at settings.

If PS5 downloads fail or the installed game will not start
The steps below are Sony’s general PlayStation troubleshooting guidance, not fixes verified specifically for the Metro update. Try them in order, moving on if the issue remains:
- If you are using a disc, check that it is clean and undamaged and that the console can read it.
- If the game is on USB extended storage, move its data to the PS5’s internal storage.
- Restart the console and try again.
- Restore licenses from the console’s account settings.
- Delete the game and redownload it; Sony recommends a wired internet connection where possible.
- Check that the PS5 has the latest system software.
- If the problem continues, use Safe Mode to clear the cache or rebuild the database.
Sony’s game download troubleshooting guide covers download problems, while its add-on troubleshooting guide addresses add-on issues. If you contact PlayStation Support, provide the error code, what happens, steps that reproduce the problem, and a screenshot or video if you can.

Know what the upgrade includes
PLAION describes this as a quality-of-life and platform enhancement update, not a remake, remaster, or port to the current 4A Engine. Its FAQ explicitly says ray tracing is not included. Announced improvements include 4K textures across platforms, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, and community-led bug fixes and quality-of-life changes.
Deep Silver says the console release adds native support for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Announced platform features include PSSR on PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X, spatial audio on Xbox, Adaptive Triggers on DualSense, and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. The publisher says console players can experience true 4K at 60 FPS or upscaled 4K at 120 FPS with suitable display hardware. These are announced features, not a complete technical specification; full patch notes are promised for launch. See the publisher announcement for its overview.

When to seek more help
If the update is available in your region but still fails after the platform’s relevant steps, keep the exact error message and note whether the failure occurs while downloading, installing, or launching. That distinction helps support identify the problem. Sony provides a troubleshooting route for PS5; for Xbox, consult current Xbox Support guidance because the publisher has not published an Xbox-specific install-failure procedure.
