Michael B. Jordan is attached to produce a film based on Electronic Arts’ Battlefield franchise and may also star. But his casting is not confirmed, and the film has not been officially announced as a completed studio deal. TheWrap reported on October 2, 2026, that Sony Pictures was the frontrunner and in talks to land the package.
What is the Battlefield movie project?
It is a proposed film adaptation of EA’s Battlefield video game franchise. The project is reported as a franchise adaptation, not as a film based on a specific game, character, or storyline.
TheWrap reported that Christopher McQuarrie is attached to write, direct, and produce. Jordan is attached to produce and is a potential star, not a confirmed lead. Producers named in TheWrap’s October 2 report are EA producer Jesse Stern, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo, and Elizabeth Raposo of Outlier Society.
Is Sony making the film?
Not yet, based on the reporting available as of October 2, 2026. TheWrap said Sony Pictures was the frontrunner and in talks to land the package. It reported that Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix had submitted bids. A frontrunner position and active negotiations do not establish that Sony has acquired the project or that a deal has closed.

Is Michael B. Jordan confirmed to star?
No. Jordan is attached as a producer and may take the lead role, but the cited reports do not confirm his casting. ComicBook.com’s October 2 article describes the film as a possible next major project while acknowledging that his acting role depends on whether he ultimately takes it. It also reports that Jordan is starring in and directing The Thomas Crown Affair, scheduled for March 5, 2027; the available information does not establish Battlefield as his next acting job.

No specific installment has been identified. TheWrap describes the franchise as spanning settings from Vietnam to the far future and notes that the first game, Battlefield 1942, launched for PC and Mac in 2002. EA’s official Motive Studio page lists Battlefield 6 as a current game and describes it as an all-out warfare experience, but no cited source ties that game’s plot, characters, or setting to the film.
EA says Battlefield Studios comprises four studios across two continents and draws on more than 20 years of franchise experience. That is EA’s description of its development organization, not confirmation of the movie’s story or creative direction.
