There is no verified manufacturer announcement in the available reporting that a specific next-generation PlayStation or Xbox console has been delayed. Future launch timing remains uncertain; component availability and cost are possible pressures, not proof of a changed release schedule. The title refers to Michael Blaker’s Video Game Tuesday column, but the exact column “Next Gen Delays” could not be verified, so no specific argument is attributed to him here.
What is known about the next PlayStation and Xbox timing?
The available sources do not establish official release dates for the next PlayStation or Xbox, or confirm that either manufacturer has postponed a particular console. A January 1, 2026 commentary piece by Jonathan H. Kantor discussed the possibility of a next-generation delay, but it is opinion, not a manufacturer schedule: ComicBook.com.

That distinction matters: uncertainty about when a future console will arrive is not evidence that its launch has been delayed. Without an official date to compare against, claims of a postponement should be treated as speculation unless a manufacturer confirms a schedule change.

In his August 18, 2026 Video Game Tuesday column “Chip Shortages,” Michael Blaker described memory and storage supply pressure as a potential risk to gaming hardware. He wrote, “Console players are not completely insulated either,” referring to the possibility that broad component-market pressures could affect consoles. This is a warning about exposure to market conditions, not confirmation of a delay or a measured forecast of one. Gameindustry.com

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Availability and cost are related but distinct risks. A component may be difficult to source, or it may become more expensive; either could complicate hardware planning, but the cited column does not establish that either has changed a next-generation console’s launch date.
What did Blaker previously say about future console hardware?
In an October 15, 2024 Video Game Tuesday column, “Hopes for the Next Generation,” Blaker observed that major console makers were beginning to tease future-generation plans. He also expressed a preference for broader use of solid-state drives and greater storage capacity. Those were his hopes, not announced specifications or a release schedule. Gameindustry.com

The 2024 observation offers context for discussion of what future consoles might include, but it does not establish when they will launch. Nor does it verify the existence or contents of a separate Blaker column titled “Next Gen Delays.”
Console delays are not the same as game delays
A delayed game shifts the release of an individual title. A delayed console-generation launch shifts the planned arrival of hardware. The two can occur independently, and lists of delayed games do not demonstrate that a console has been postponed. For example, GameSpot’s August 5, 2026 roundup covers individual game delays, not a console-launch announcement: Every Game Delayed Right Now (2026 Edition).

How to assess claims about a next-gen delay
- Look for a manufacturer statement. A company-confirmed date change is different from an analyst’s prediction or a commentary article’s argument.
- Check what is supposedly delayed. Confirm whether the claim concerns console hardware, a game, or a component affecting production.
- Keep dates attached to claims. A 2024 observation about future plans and a 2026 opinion about possible timing do not amount to a current schedule.
- Separate risk from outcome. Component constraints may pose a risk; they do not establish that a launch date has moved.
