Microsoft reportedly began surfacing Nvidia GeForce NOW alongside Xbox Cloud Gaming on selected Xbox web-store game pages in July 2024. The change made it easier to discover another way to stream some Xbox-owned PC games, but it did not turn every Xbox game into a GeForce NOW title—or create a native GeForce NOW app for Xbox consoles.
GeForce NOW remains Nvidia’s separate streaming service. Whether a game launches depends on its PC version, storefront license, region, account setup, and whether Nvidia has onboarded that specific title.

What changed on Xbox’s website?
The reported change affected Xbox game-detail pages viewed on the web. Microsoft’s “Play with cloud” experience could present Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW as cloud-play destinations instead of promoting only Microsoft’s own service.

This was a storefront-level discovery and handoff feature, not evidence that Microsoft had embedded Nvidia’s streaming technology into Xbox. Contemporary reporting also noted that the rollout was incomplete and that it was initially unclear whether the GeForce NOW control would open a supported game directly or redirect the user to Nvidia’s service.

The feature was reported by MSPoweruser in July 2024, with additional contemporary discussion recorded by NeoGAF. Availability may have changed by market, account, or page design since then.
Is this a full integration or just a link?
The defensible description is Xbox storefront integration with a handoff to Nvidia’s service. The game still runs on GeForce NOW’s infrastructure, under Nvidia’s compatibility and membership rules.
In other words, seeing GeForce NOW on an Xbox page does not mean Microsoft operates GeForce NOW, that the session runs inside the Xbox website, or that Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW have become one service. It gives players another cloud-play destination where Microsoft and Nvidia support the relevant game and entitlement.
The 2023 Microsoft–Nvidia deal came first
The Xbox-page change followed a broader 10-year Microsoft–Nvidia gaming partnership announced on February 21, 2023. The agreement was intended to bring supported Xbox PC games to GeForce NOW, including eligible Microsoft Store purchases and PC Game Pass titles. It also covered PC games from Activision Blizzard following Microsoft’s acquisition.
The first announced Xbox releases included Gears 5, which became available on May 18, 2023, followed by Deathloop, Grounded, and Pentiment on May 25. Xbox said the catalog would expand through later GeForce NOW updates.

Nvidia subsequently announced Microsoft Store integration and selected PC Game Pass support. Those earlier licensing and catalog arrangements are separate from the later Xbox web-page presentation. The July 2024 development mainly changed how Microsoft exposed the choice to users.
Which Xbox games work?
Only supported PC versions work through GeForce NOW. Nvidia adds and tests games individually, so there is no universal “Xbox games on GeForce NOW” switch.

- A supported Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, or Activision Blizzard PC game.
- A supported PC Game Pass title.
- A supported Microsoft Store PC purchase.
- A supported game owned through another connected storefront, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, or Ubisoft Connect.
Availability can vary by region, storefront, publisher rights, and the particular PC build. Nvidia’s supported-games guidance is the appropriate place to verify a title; do not assume that inclusion in PC Game Pass automatically means inclusion in GeForce NOW.
Nvidia aims to add supported games around their store release dates, but says some titles arrive later because each game must be onboarded and tested. “PC Game Pass game” and “GeForce NOW-supported PC Game Pass game” are therefore not interchangeable descriptions.
What does a player need?
The exact requirements depend on the title, but the usual setup includes:

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
- A compatible GeForce NOW device and a suitable internet connection. Nvidia supports a range of PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, smartphones, and other devices, with limitations varying by platform.
- A qualifying game entitlement: either PC Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate for a supported PC Game Pass title or ownership of a supported Microsoft Store PC game.
- A GeForce NOW account. Nvidia offers free and paid access options, but queue priority, session length, resolution, and performance depend on its current plans.
- A linked Nvidia and Xbox/Microsoft account where supported.
- The correct PC version and storefront license.
Nvidia says account linking can synchronize eligible libraries and enable automatic sign-in. Its documentation also warns that some games may still request another login. See Nvidia’s account-linking guidance and Xbox sign-in information for the current behavior.
Does an Xbox purchase transfer to GeForce NOW?
Not necessarily. An Xbox console license is not the same thing as a Microsoft Store PC license or a PC Game Pass entitlement.
GeForce NOW normally streams the PC edition. A console-only purchase should not be treated as sufficient unless the player also has a qualifying PC entitlement and Nvidia supports that PC version.
| Entitlement | What it means for GeForce NOW |
|---|---|
| Xbox console purchase | Usually not enough by itself; GeForce NOW streams a PC version. |
| Xbox Play Anywhere purchase | May provide a PC entitlement, but the title must still be supported by GeForce NOW. |
| Microsoft Store PC purchase | Can work when Nvidia supports that title and storefront version. |
| PC Game Pass | Can work for supported PC Game Pass games; it does not cover every Game Pass title. |
| Steam or Epic purchase | Requires the supported version on that storefront. Nvidia notes that Xbox automatic sign-in support does not cover all such purchases. |
The safest approach is to check the title directly in GeForce NOW before buying a game or subscription for this purpose.

| Best suited to | A straightforward Xbox-style experience | PC-oriented streaming and broader storefront flexibility |
The same franchise can appear on both services without being technically identical. The services may use different builds, save systems, graphics settings, input behavior, and multiplayer ecosystems. Cross-save or cross-progression depends on the individual game; it should never be assumed simply because both launches are associated with Xbox.

Which service is better?
GeForce NOW may make more sense if you already own a supported PC game, want PC-style graphics options, use a non-Xbox device, or get a better network route to Nvidia’s data centers. Nvidia advertises features including RTX, higher resolutions, HDR, and high frame rates on qualifying memberships, but actual results depend on the plan, game, device, display, and connection. See the GeForce NOW system requirements for the current limits.
Xbox Cloud Gaming may be simpler if the desired title is already in Microsoft’s cloud catalog, you want a console-style interface, you rely on Xbox ecosystem behavior, or you do not want a separate GeForce NOW membership.
For some players, the cost question is important: a supported PC Game Pass title may still require both the underlying Game Pass entitlement and whatever level of GeForce NOW access the player prefers. The Xbox page’s link does not waive Nvidia’s membership rules.

The game appears on Xbox but not GeForce NOW
Check whether you own or can access the PC version, whether Nvidia has onboarded it, whether the title is available in your region, and whether the license comes from a supported storefront. Console availability alone is not evidence of GeForce NOW support.
The game is in PC Game Pass but will not launch
Confirm that you have PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate rather than a console-only entitlement. Then verify that the game is listed as supported, link the correct Microsoft account, and complete any additional sign-in the game requests.

The Xbox page has no GeForce NOW button
The title may be unsupported, console-only, unavailable in your market, or outside the scope of the web rollout. Microsoft may also have changed the page interface. The practical fallback is to open GeForce NOW directly, connect the relevant account, and search its supported catalog.
Your saves do not appear
Check which build launched. Xbox Cloud Gaming may use an Xbox version while GeForce NOW uses a PC version. Save transfer requires the game’s own cross-save or cross-progression support and is not guaranteed by the Xbox or Nvidia relationship.
Why would Microsoft promote Nvidia?
The arrangement gives each company something useful. Microsoft can expand access to Xbox PC games and retain game or subscription revenue without supplying every stream itself. Nvidia gains more supported games and another reason for players to use GeForce NOW. Players gain an alternative to buying an Xbox console or relying exclusively on Xbox Cloud Gaming.

That is best understood as a distribution partnership. The evidence does not show that Microsoft is replacing Xbox Cloud Gaming or abandoning Xbox hardware. It shows Microsoft making its gaming ecosystem available across more devices and cloud services where the licensing and technical requirements line up.
The practical takeaway
If you see GeForce NOW on an Xbox web game page, treat it as a shortcut to another cloud-gaming option—not as a guarantee that your Xbox license will work there. Verify the PC version, entitlement, storefront, region, account link, and Nvidia support listing before subscribing or buying.
