Microsoft has brought back limited $1 introductory offers for Game Pass, but it has not restored a universal $1 Game Pass Ultimate trial. As of August 18, 2026, the U.S. Xbox page shows 14-day $1 offers for Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass; both renew automatically at their regular monthly prices unless you cancel. Whether you see the offer depends on your account and market, so check the terms shown to you before paying.
Which Game Pass plans have a $1 offer?
The U.S. Xbox plan page displays different prices and benefits by tier. These are U.S. prices observed on August 18, 2026; offers and availability may differ elsewhere or change over time. Check the Xbox plan listing for the current details.

These are introductory paid subscriptions, not necessarily free trials. The price and duration presented for your account at checkout are the terms to rely on.
Is this the old $1 Game Pass Ultimate trial?
No. The current U.S. listing shows the introductory price on Premium and PC Game Pass, not Ultimate. Do not treat those plans as interchangeable: their platforms, catalogs, and included benefits differ. Microsoft’s offer history also shows why the duration needs checking: in 2023, reports documented a change from a month-long $1 promotion to 14 days. Pure Xbox reported the shorter offer, as did Video Games Chronicle.

The accurate description is that selected Game Pass plans have a $1 introductory offer in some circumstances. The current U.S. page’s Premium and PC Game Pass offers last 14 days, not a month.
Who is eligible for the $1 offer?
The promotion appears aimed mainly at new subscribers and some returning subscribers whose previous membership has ended. Active subscribers generally should not expect to see it, and previous use of a promotion may affect eligibility. The offer is associated with the Microsoft account, not simply the device or browser; changing devices should not be assumed to make an ineligible account qualify.

Microsoft does not publish one universal waiting period that establishes when every former subscriber becomes eligible again. Market, account history, available tier, and the campaign itself can all matter. If the $1 price is absent from the signed-in account’s offer, treat that as the offer not being available to that account rather than trying to work around eligibility. Coverage of the offer also notes account, market, and tier limitations.
How to check the offer before you subscribe
- Sign in to the official Xbox Game Pass page with the Microsoft account you intend to use.
- Compare the plans and prices actually displayed for that account. Confirm that the offer is for the tier you want.
- At checkout, verify the introductory duration, the date billing renews, the regular renewal price, and whether recurring billing is enabled. Check any regional taxes and terms shown there as well.
- Complete the purchase only if the displayed plan and billing terms suit you.
- After subscribing, review the membership and renewal settings at Microsoft account services. Labels and screens can vary by account and storefront.
If a $1 price does not appear, possible reasons include an active subscription, prior promotional use, regional availability, a different offer for that account, or a promotion that has changed. The signed-in offer and checkout terms—not a headline or another person’s screen—are the practical confirmation.

What do Premium, PC Game Pass, and Essential include?
PC Game Pass
The current listing advertises a PC catalog of more than 300 games, day-one PC releases, EA Play, in-game benefits, and rewards-point earning. It is the more focused choice for a Windows PC player who does not need console access or the broader Ultimate package. The catalog and individual game availability can change, so check a title’s listing before subscribing.
Game Pass Premium
The listing describes more than 200 games playable on PC, console, and supported devices, select new games within one year of release, unlimited cloud gaming, in-game benefits, rewards-point earning, and online console multiplayer. It is the better fit among these offers for someone who wants console access, cloud gaming, or play across devices. “Select new games within one year” does not mean every new Xbox release is included at launch.

Game Pass Essential
Essential is listed with more than 50 games playable on PC, console, and supported devices, unlimited cloud gaming, in-game benefits, online console multiplayer, and rewards-point earning. The U.S. page displayed $9.99 for one month, without the $1 offer shown for Premium and PC Game Pass. It can be a lower-cost alternative if you do not qualify for a promotion or do not need a larger catalog.
Ultimate
The current U.S. page does not establish a $1 Ultimate offer. If you specifically want Ultimate, check its own current price and terms rather than assuming Premium or PC Game Pass provides the same package.

Plan descriptions and catalogs vary by market, device, and time. Check the individual game listing for supported platforms and plan availability. The Xbox listing is the source for the U.S. plan descriptions above; Microsoft also provides a regional Game Pass overview for Canada.

The subscription continues automatically at the regular recurring price unless recurring billing is turned off or the subscription is canceled. For the U.S. offers displayed August 18, 2026, that means $14.99 per month after Premium’s 14 days or $13.99 per month after PC Game Pass’s 14 days. The renewal date and price shown for your account at checkout are the ones to use, particularly outside the U.S. or if the offer changes.
If you only want the introductory period, review the recurring-billing setting as soon as you subscribe and make a note of the renewal date. Microsoft’s exact cancellation and access behavior can depend on the offer and market; confirm what the account page says rather than assuming that canceling immediately will preserve access through the full paid period.
Is a $1 offer worth taking?
- It may suit you if you have several included games ready to play within 14 days, want to test cloud gaming, or want to try PC Game Pass and its advertised PC catalog and EA Play.
- Premium may suit you better if you need console access, cloud gaming, or a multi-device plan rather than a PC-focused subscription.
- It may not suit you if you expect a month, want a specific game that is not in the selected tier, or cannot manage the automatic renewal.
- Consider buying a game instead if you only want one title and expect to play it beyond the subscription period. Subscription access can end when a game leaves the catalog or your membership expires; an individual purchase does not depend on an active Game Pass subscription.
- Check your connection before relying on cloud play. Cloud gaming depends on supported devices, network quality, and service availability.
The low introductory charge is only part of the decision. Compare the plan’s actual benefits with the renewal price and the amount of time you expect to use it.
