What Gaming Copilot does
Gaming Copilot is an Xbox gaming assistant for asking questions while you play. It can offer help with quests, strategies, builds, enemies and characters, explain what Microsoft’s screen-aware feature identifies in the game, and surface Xbox-related information such as achievements, play history and recommendations. Microsoft describes assistance and information—not a system that takes control of a game.
It is distinct from the standard Windows Copilot sidebar and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Microsoft announced the gaming feature as a beta in September 2025. Microsoft’s announcement

The mobile app is a second-screen experience: you use the phone while the game remains on another display. That is not the same as running Gaming Copilot directly on an Xbox console. Microsoft’s mobile update is at Xbox Wire. The console roadmap was reported by Windows Central.

How to open Gaming Copilot on Windows
- Install or update the Xbox PC app.
- Launch a game, then press Windows logo key + G to open Xbox Game Bar.
- Find the Gaming Copilot icon in the Game Bar Home Bar and open its widget.
- Sign in to your Xbox account for the full experience, then ask a question by text or voice.
For hands-free use, open the Hardware and Hotkeys settings page to assign a Push to Talk key. For Mini Mode, pin the Gaming Copilot widget, select Talk, then use the upward-arrow control to minimize it while continuing the conversation.
How to use it in the Xbox mobile app
- Install or update the Xbox mobile app on an iOS or Android device and sign in.
- Open the Gaming Copilot tab.
- Type a question, or tap the Microphone icon to speak.
Keeping the phone beside you lets you ask for help without placing an assistant panel over the game display. Voice use requires microphone access and a suitable input device or phone microphone.

Eligibility, rollout and cost
Microsoft’s September 2025 announcement specified that users must be 18 or older and described availability as broad except in mainland China. The rollout was gradual, and beta access can vary by market, account and app version. The PC setup requires an Xbox account for the full experience. The announcement did not identify a separate Gaming Copilot subscription or fee; that does not make games, Game Pass, or other Xbox services free.
When it helps—and when to use a guide
Gaming Copilot is most useful for a quick conversational hint: ask what an enemy is, request a nudge on a quest, or get a recommendation based on your Xbox activity. Voice can be convenient mid-game; text is often better for exact item names, long questions, or when speaking aloud is impractical.

Its screen awareness is not a guarantee of perfect game-state recognition, and AI answers can be wrong, generic, stale, or spoiler-heavy. Ask a focused question, include the game and objective, and request a hint rather than a full solution if you want to avoid spoilers. For a precise map location, puzzle sequence, patch-specific mechanic, or competitive ruling, use a trusted walkthrough, official source or patch notes and verify critical advice.
If Gaming Copilot is missing or voice does not work
If the widget is absent on PC, update Windows, the Xbox PC app and Xbox Game Bar through Microsoft Store; confirm you are signed into the correct Xbox account; reopen Game Bar with Windows + G and check the Home Bar and widget list. If it still does not appear, staged rollout, regional or age eligibility, or app compatibility may be involved. These are practical troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that every account or configuration is supported.

For voice problems, check microphone permission, the selected input device, internet connectivity, and—on PC—whether Push to Talk has a key assigned. If answers miss the mark, name the game, location or objective and cross-check consequential advice before acting on it.

Microsoft describes Gaming Copilot as able to understand game activity and, in screen-aware use, what is happening on screen.
