But the figures do not establish a broad recovery: the measures and their absolute values were not disclosed, while the same report cites falling revenue and hardware sales.
What has changed in Xbox’s strategy?
An October 8, 2026 report by hi-Tech.ua describes a reset that combines renewed attention to first-party games with changes to Game Pass, continued console support, and broader distribution across platforms. It portrays Microsoft as adjusting how Xbox reaches players and manages its business—not abandoning Xbox consoles.
The report’s account is based on information available in its article text; the underlying company data and reporting periods for several figures were not disclosed. Its metrics should therefore be read as claims reported by hi-Tech.ua, rather than independently confirmed results.
What does the reported rebound mean?
According to hi-Tech.ua, Xbox leader Asha Sharma told employees that some first-party game metrics had reached two to three times their low-point level after an extended decline. Microsoft reportedly did not identify the measures or provide absolute values.

The report associates the improvement with Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and World of Warcraft: Forever, but gives no performance figures for individual games and does not establish that any one project caused the change.

How does Game Pass fit into the reset?
hi-Tech.ua characterizes Game Pass as an area where the previous growth strategy contributed to weaker financial results. It says a price increase was followed by the loss of millions of subscribers and describes a later price revision. The accessible account does not provide subscriber totals, dates, plan-by-plan figures, or financial data to verify the scale or timing of those changes.
The report also says new Call of Duty releases would no longer automatically join the catalog on launch day. That points to a different balance between subscription inclusion and individual game sales, but the article does not quantify the financial effect or give terms for particular releases.

It describes possible future choices among content categories for subscribers, but no finalized plan or launch date is given. That possibility should not be treated as an announced feature or a current way to choose a catalog.

hi-Tech.ua reports a $1.7 billion annual decline in Xbox revenue and a 29% fall in hardware sales. The accessible article does not establish the comparison period or cite an underlying filing, so these figures are attributable to the report and cannot by themselves show how the business is performing across a defined period.

The same report says Xbox’s internal brand-loyalty measure rose 30% year over year. It does not define loyalty, disclose the baseline or methodology, or explain how that measure relates to subscribers, purchases, or active players.
On organizational changes, hi-Tech.ua reports that a September staff reduction affected 268 employees, alongside shifts in franchise or studio oversight and consolidation of the Playground Games and Turn 10 racing teams. The underlying announcements were not independently verified in the accessible material; the number and changes are therefore claims carried by the report.
Does this amount to an Xbox recovery?
Not on the evidence described. The report points to an improvement in some unspecified internal game measures and a higher internal loyalty measure, but it also reports revenue and hardware declines. Without defined metrics, comparable periods, and underlying company disclosures, the evidence supports a cautious account of possible early improvement amid a strategic and organizational reset—not a demonstrated recovery.
The clearest way to assess future claims will be to look for measures with disclosed definitions and time periods, title-level results, and financial comparisons tied to identifiable reporting periods. Those would make it possible to distinguish a change in internal indicators from a sustained improvement in Xbox’s overall business.
